Rations are obviously spoiled and tainted. This is an obivous plot by the dark gods.
In practice, recovering food spawns angry ogryns and destroying them spawns food riots, trash mobs, from the few missions ive played. Are their more “consequences” I have not seen?
I dont see a benefit from lore or ingame to be recovering the rations. Who is and why?
As far as general feedback, I am enjoying the community event! This is a step in the right direction from FS. Seeing the bar of choices the community makes is interesting and engaging. On the other hand, the implementation of pressing 1 or 2 200+ times on the ground is not ideal, its unfun and after a few missions Ive already left the pickups to other memebers in the group. Its simply not a fun mechanic and I dont see myself grinding to get the unique reward. Also where are the Aquilas for completing/participating?
Devs should automate the ingame pickup/destroy system, allow rejects at the start of the event mission to pick their “side” and have the rations they walk over automatically be collected or destroyed. This may seem silly but i feel it will go a long way towards more people continuing to play the event. Maybe FS could even add collection/destruction stations in the maps to give players that choice, pressing 1 or 2 at a station once or twice in a mission would feel way different that how its currently constructed. Anything but looking down and pressing 1 or 2 hundreds of times per match, this is a horde shooter after all.
Additionally, on the mourninstar, can we have a little window dressing? A specific event hub with an NPC to engage with should be a must for events. Make a section on the ship the event location that changes with the current events. Players can go there to review event specfic rewards and purchase fomo event cosmetics. A blurb or two to suggest why we should be recovering or why we should be destroying thse rations!
Maybe put the event hub over here? This guy is lonely.
because recovering gives a better buff and is more fun to play, you get a permanent attack speed and dodge speed increase that (maybe?)stacks with each stim you use
recovering spawns bulwark waves (50), plague ogryns (100), and 2 plague ogryns with ogryn wave (350),
I collect and destroy now, alternating. Sometimes you can get both events to trigger at once and a boss with horde or something. Almost on the level of cool of that dark rituals event. Though you can get Lieutenants to spawn very rarely by destroying rations. And they have no set pairing for the fight - I fought 2 swordies at the same time the other round. I wonder if the inverse is possible and you can have 2 toughness deleting fart mine lobbers at once.
I destroy them as thats the lore accurate way and i enjoy the Starvation Riot Modifier more with the double Ammo, Captains etc. other than just being spammed with Ogryns and Mutants.
How isn’t it? No Inquisitor would knowingly feed a population Ebola Food turning them into Mutants, they would starve them as long as other means of food are found / secured or simply as long as is necessary to hold back the infection and the Cult is defeated.
Better they die pure and some starved Rioters can be put down easier than plague-infected / mutated people
I can’t think of any Scenario where anyone in 40k, or even IRL, would knowingly feed their people with that. You’d contain that Area and either evacuate the people or quite frank let them die, you wouldn’t knowingly feed them contaminated food which only spreads the plague further.
I would have much less faith in the future of the game if the developers didn’t learn from this event and instead continued to use 1 and 2 as default selection binds moving forward. Hopefully they’ll set binds that require equal thoughtfulness (and don’t involve incidentally switching weapons.) The fact that this hasn’t been addressed in a hotfix is already a bit disappointing, but my hope is that they’re already working on the class launch with a tight timeline.
As for people intentionally recovering, it’s probably useful to hold in mind that 40K has many factions and very few get videogame representation outside of skirmish scenarios in middling strategy games (discounting Dawn of War.) A lot of people probably actively dislike the Imperium. Aside from that, the 40K community is infamously contrarian and acerbic, so them working against their own interest, even as fans of Imperial factions, is not entirely surprising.
You can change the Keybind for it in the Settings but i saw on Steam many people as well who didn’t know that and said they only recover the Ration because it simply is bind to 1 by default
