That could be interesting avenue to explore. The dialogue during a mission has already mentioned the existence of another Hive city “that we shouldn’t bring up” according to Morrow.
I don’t see why we would go to any other place (in the short term) than Tertium.
What would you suggest @JanZamoysky ? I am working under the assumption that New enemy types would have to co-exist in maps already created, and gel with either traitor guard or Nurge’s infested. Having a new race be exclusive to a separate handful of missions doesn’t make sense to me from a design PoV. But then again, a lot of FS design choices are currently being questioned.
After chewing on this topic over the weekend, I could see Mechanicus becoming Corrupted, turning into blight infested Machine puffs. As Hadron has already shown she can be rather unstable. There is still so much in Nurgle’s roster that can still be explored.
I think Orks could be a pretty interesting addition, maybe some rogue Orks smashed their “space ships” into Tertium (or even an entirely different imperial planet) and you have to go there and fight them off.
Genestealer cult could also fit in, there’s some voicelines that suggest there’s a second hive city on Atoma Prime, so maybe we get sent there to deal with the genestealer cult.
So first off:
There is a lot of bait for OP’s thread in the game.
Multiple times during missions our characters reference “The other Hive City on Atoma Prime that everyone pretends doesn’t exist”. The comments immediately get shut down by the Captain, so it’s clear something bad has happened there.
Clearly introducing another faction or several isn’t off the table.
That said, the roster of Nurgle Units isn’t even halfway complete, so just expanding and completing the faction of Nurgle Followers can spice up the game as it is.
A comprehensive list of what exists here: https://wh40k.lexicanum.com/wiki/Nurgle
Imagine going up against a Plaguebearer, a Plaguetoad or a Soulgrinder. The latter would make excellent boss material.
Genestealer cults possibly? Saw an interesting wiki on a Genestealer cult called Cult Tenebrous who were overtaken by Nurgle, so that’d be interesting to say the least.
Yes Ratlings are constantly coming up and with the ogryn being a class i could see them being added as a range only sort of class. My guess enemy wise is a chaos spawn (in vermintide and the opening cinematic) and maybe nurglings.
Ratling would have quite a big PoV problem, with the cover system and such (If you want to test it do a full mission while always crouching unless you’re sprinting)
As for additional enemy, there are mention of possible Xenos (Namely the Darktide) but either it’s a lesser Xenos (So not Eldar, Tau, Genestealer, Orks…) as they are Chaos Worshipper, they could even be Daemon for all we know.
But others fall prey to the insidious touch of the Darktide. They encounter the malevolent effect of the Warp, and it changes them. They become - literally, in some cases - the very thing they are fighting against.
Lesser Xenos would work, as they just depend on the central narrative.
Now we do have some voice lines mentioning possible Xenos sighting, keeping in mind that the people we are with don’t seem to exactly know what the Beast of Nurgle is, so they might see a Chaos Daemon as a possible Xenos
In most sense, I’d see other Chaos Cults, and Daemons, as you can have the same ish units for the base with different twists to make them different enough
I’m hoping for Nurgle Daemons: Poxbringer, Plaguebearers, Nurglings… After that Genestealers seems plausible. Maybe in that other hive city we don’t talk about…
I don’t see an easy way to work anything else into Tertium, but maybe after it’s saved the warband can become mobile and that would open up a lot of possibilities.
