When will the main mode get more maps

We’ve had 0 new maps for the main mode which 95% of people play in 2025 but 2 for Mortis trials with another 1 or maybe more on the way

The last map for the main mode was dark communion 9 months ago and it was another one of those maps where half of it was copied from another map

The last actual full new map that didn’t cross over with another map and was a full length (not 10 minutes like rolling steel) was June last year, 15 months ago

Also the only new regular enemies we’ve had since launch were either already in the files from the beginning (tox bomber), added immediately after launch (chaos spawn, daemonhost) or were just a scab gunner with their helmet taken off and 1 new ability and were removed from the game after a few weeks (radio operator)

Twins were also added but they were part of a side mode for over a year then were only added to havoc as a random encounter, but since they’re the only fun boss fight in the game they should be at the end of an assassination mission

All this with the new update teasing the last unique full sized map we had being reused into a Mortis trials map makes me wonder what the mapping team have been doing for the last year

Yeah I’m desperate for a whole bunch of new maps. Of all the things that makes the game feel most stale, it’s lack of fresh maps imo.

I actually love dark communion and don’t mind they reuse segments (but would be better if they flipped the reused bits when they did this, i.e. from left to right, to make it feel fresher).

After years of playing and closing to 2k hours I must have played the same maps an insane amount of times.

I’ve made a few posts with biome suggestions too as I believe a fresh new location and art style would really jazz things up too (ie seeing plantlife or some deep mines etc). I do love the hourglass due to its real different feelings so more of those would be sweet too.

i sorely miss new maps. is building maps in darktide’s format that difficult? just look at some map packs for classic games, like arcane dimensions for quake, it’s crazy how complex those got compared to the originals.

also, we had images of art for enemies like dreg maulers, dreg berserkers (ogryns? in rags instead of plate) so that’s basically a reskin of existing enemies, not that creative but also not that hard to implement. not to forget that plogryn with cannons.

we also had a thread on how procedural map generation would improve the replayability of missions, but no idea how far they got with implementing that into darktide.

Havoc being on a map rotation means that we basically have a negative number of maps for the real game at this point.

Mortis Trials is main mode now

I can only hope they don’t end up pouring development resources into something like Mortis Trials, which nobody plays, a true epitome of wasted effort.

We’ve given so many ideas for new maps in these forums too. They don’t even need to think up any concepts :laughing:

But alas, clearly the DT team consists of like 10 developers imo. This is why everything is molasses. A whole company of suits taking all the cosmetics money whilst starving the Dev team of any actual finances. I’d bet my bottom dollar. What other logical explanation fits better?

Main mode getting new maps is pretty unexciting when you can only select maybe 40% of them at a time with the current mission selection system. The more maps that get released the less chance you get a map you might want to play, and with the RNG system still being completely ass I still see maps that just got rotated out get rotated in on the next refresh.

First, there are plenty who play Mortiis trials and have been asking for new arenas. Havoc got it’s upgrade and there are plenty who play havoc. And almost ALL of them play the main game maps too.

Second, every map released after the first set has been a visual and exploratory masterpiece. Archivum Sycorax gave us the gauntlet dropping that Kyd beat, Rolling Steel introduced a short but sweet and intense new experience, Clandestum Gloriana gave us ice ice ice and one of the most dangerous starts to a level which ALL of us have at some point gone “WEEEEEEEEEE Bye!” to a barrel explosion, laughing ourselves silly.

My point is, they don’t let us down when a new map drops and usually, no matter how much people speculate on here and reddit, we have little to no clue what kind is coming. With them having to ensure everything fits the license with GWS etc. and the lore, it’d obviously take a bit longer, not just to design and implement, but to keep checking in with the bureaucrats. It’s like Trey and Matt having to deal with Paramount at times.

When I saw the font art and video of the teaser for the next update come, instantly I thought “ooh we’re getting a new mortiis trial arena looking all Clandestum Gloriana style maybe!” Which means more story snips, possible comedy blessings etc. Contrary to some opinions on here, lots of players do actually like mortiis trials. Above I read “nobody plays mortiis trials”- I’ve played 12 with my son today and we had full rando teams every time. There are plenty playing them. YOU don’t like them. That doesn’t make it a wasted effort. YOU don’t have to play them. I like havoc, doesn’t stop me playing Auric or Mortiis trials, I play with a lotta different types and levels of players, cos I’m in it for the teamplay.

I love matching up with you players out there who play your characters on vox and add a layer of comedy immersion to the experience. I love playing with noobs and helping them make the Heresy to Auric jump- my son’s at that stage now. I love playing with streamer buds at the stupidest even modded difficulties (most for V2- we invented Outlast tide… that was a fun halloween). I know some top tier players who can waltz a havoc 40 who prefer mortiis trials cos they have more fun and less raging nutters- that’s enough to make em play when they get back from work.
HOWEVER, it might be a second level to CG. It’s got the same aesthetic. Right now we do not actually know.

I agree that FS should redo the map selection to reflect V2’s and just let us pick what we want. And give Hallowette the full damn catalogue so we can buy what we want when we have it- people aren’t like corporations, they save money and get what they can when they can! More than anything I want a damn bug fix to this update! Over content, I want better stability and no more aborted missions. I want some rebalancing and a lil’ oomph added to some classes and a few nerfs to others. But I don’t know what the hell’s to come. I do know I’ve enjoyed play on every map released so far, so I’m at least looking forward to next week’s release.

you’d be hard pressed to find much excitement over a new mortis trials map in this new update, even reddit isnt very enthusiastic

I like the mode personally, I just think the waves they spawn are very uncreative.

Aye, a lot of forums write lotsa stuff, but given there were people sh!tting on the TRAAAAIIIIN when it came out- I mean come on, train xD, I take talk with a pinch of salt… as I went on further in that 5am blergh (sorry for length lol) in game experience has evidentially shown me different. Some people don’t play MTs at all and because they don’t play, they don’t see people playing. Or enjoying. I’ve played with plenty this week alone, who were all randos, at different levels from H40 elites, to Malice jumpers, who’ve been laughing their t!ts off and enjoying the hell out of it. I won’t be the only one, my dude :slight_smile:

When Rolling Steel first came out, it felt fresh, but because of the short 10-minute limit and the stress from the timer, it quickly became unpopular.
As fewer people played it, the quality of Quickplay matches also dropped.
They’ve mentioned before that if a short mission received negative feedback, it might be reworked, so there’s a chance that Rolling Steel could be completely revamped and return as a new map.

I have not seen Rolling Steel on the mission screen when I’m choosing a mission since the new mission screen was a thing.

Right. You lose rolling steel because of the timer with less competent people, even if you win all fights.
