This article was posted on the 27th of June. The one-search information, stating that the game won’t, in fact, come with crossplay Day 1 is only available in this article, from November 28th. The game launched 2 days later.

I’m sure this won’t change your feelings, but the lack of crossplay was noted at least as early as 11/18, during the pre-order beta: Community Update #1: Pre-Order Beta Hotfix 1.0.6
