I’m sorry for bringing this pessimism before the content is even released… but I honestly don’t think it’s the right direction to take
Darktide lacks contents, real contents. Weapons, maps, characters, enemies (not just one, and almost a reskin too)
Darktide has several problems, such as a totally horrible crafting system and a lot of grind (we still can’t convert Diamantine to Plasteel, while possible in Vermintide… why this solution ,that fixes a known problem, wasn’t brought here?)…
…and what is your solution? Add more penances that don’t bring real gameplay content… just more grind. Are you trying to take time knowing that your community (including me, probably) has some kind of OCD about completionism?
I also want to point out that the current penances are truly terrible… almost all grinding, RNG and requiring certain maps… in a game where you CAN’T even choose the map.
I hope at least they will be fun and fair, and the rewards good… but considering that you sell reskin armors for €20, hopes are low
Anyway they should have been released at the end of March… instead you delayed them by a month. At this rate, when we’ll see real contents?
The patch itself was never promised to come at the end of March, the Dev Blog we just got was.
Which is why the next big thing they are planning on doing is just that ? Like I know reading skills went down the drain years ago, but honestly, they’ve said that they know crafting is a sore spot and that they will change it.
Is this some sort of Skill issue ?
We’ve got maps, we’ve got weapon marks (with the promise of new weapons, not just marks for this year)
They’re not doing this patch then dropping the game, take a breath and touch grass.
Most of those things being introduced are good things that are worthwhile, should they be pushed back so that instead what you want to happen 1st happen ?
Yes. The crafting rework 100% should’ve been first, before the penance “stuff”. Hell, it’s what they should’ve released in place of that “sidegrade” they put in last August or whatever.
Like it’s not 1 dude in a shed, it’s various teams, and I doubt that most of the people that are/were working on this patch were all working on the crafting one too.
I don’t really have an issue with the stuff they’re implementing, I think more content is good, even if stamp collecting and wardrobe-filling aren’t my things.
My bigger issue is that if this is what the total output of almost a half year of content development looks like (particularly when most of it involves outsourced cosmetic assets), that was so dynamic and complex that nobody in the studio could stop to say anything about it or put work in on other high-profile core gameplay issues, one has to wonder if the Darktide development team has been cut to a skeleton crew.
Then their priorities are alarmingly poor, but that’s already been apparent for some time with how the system has been allowed to stay basically as-is since ~2 months after launch.
Like I know reading skills went down the drain years ago
First of all, we are talking about the game, keep the personal attacks/flame to yourself. I read it very well, I just wish they had given it priority
Is this some sort of Skill issue ?
This will always be an ever green… nope, I already completated every penance (apart the grinding ones, like “complete 999999 times X mission”); simply I’m dotated with analytical and critical abilities, which allows me to express a judgment regardless of my performances
You just made yourself look like a fanboy who gets salty and offensive if someone criticizes his favorite game, totally blinded to see the reality
And I’m done with that, you won’t read another comment referring to you
Luckily someone managed to understand the meaning. Free stuff is always good… just the priorities should be different. Especially considering that people have been complaining about crafting since literally d1 and that the last gameplay content was months and months ago (only two maps)
To the parched man in the desert, a glass of water means the ocean, however. People who still find something in DT will cheer, those who don’t will be bored fast.
Some penances and achievements might go a long way in keeping those who care around and exposed to the mtx. But this drip of new stuffs is nowhere near Oct 4th level of impact, and that lasted for 3 months, before all but the most dedicated came to realize the game is the same, a few more %s here or there really don’t make that much of a difference, nor are they the equivalent to 12 classes, because…
…those should have different weapons, abilities and synergies…
Which is where the real pain of DT lies, exacerbated by the itemization, time-wasting, levels etc. The game can be boring and irrelevant while you get a shiny new frame tho! That’s something…
Just want to add, not sure its really relevant here but whatever… I haven’t bought the new Vermintide 2 stuff. Sienna necromancer, all that. Aint touched Vermintide 2 since Darktide came out. I owned everything for V2 before that.
I’m not supporting Fatshark, until they show signs of change. Simple as.
(Juan, if you ever see this, not that I think you will, but if you do? I blame you! I’d 100% knock your pencils off your desk mate, without hesitation. BAM. Pick them up off the office floor you DOOFUS.)
See fatshark aren’t adding new content to the game
They just want to try and drag out what’s already there, gotta keep people looking at the shop for as long as possible for as little effort and resources as possible.
Also this will probably be the last bundle of free stuff we get, tbf it’s a big looking bundle though the main things of substance being loyalist mobian 6th and the cover art cosmetics finally after over a year.
But the actual content added to the gameplay itself is pretty damn minor
The bomber getting a dreg variant
One new mission effect with tox clouds
Can’t say I’m all too interested to come back to grind the exact same content I’ve already grinded to do penances.
And unless fatshark develops speed triples this year we’re only going to see 2 more updates this year that are supposedly going to contain new weapons, a crafting overhaul, new maps and some “other surprises” looking at the meh mainly cosmetic additions and meta changes to a system most people didn’t care about taking over 4 months to make. I highly doubt fatshark will actually deliver on all their announcement for announcements post promises
Also update at the end of April, so the end of the first week of may?
Dude, youre right.
If this is REDEMPTION, its redemtion before death.
While was reading this new post i just fasepalmed at the end.
The only good thing is new Pox thrower, that it. Rest is just tons of grind for cosmetics.
A first step for redemtion made fatshark fall face flat on the ground…
Having reminded you of that, on to the dumpsterfire that is the OP of this thread.
Great. As you might have read in the citation above, FS are aware and are working on just that.
After the community has complained about it for over a year, the crafting system has finally been addressed and is currently getting reworked.
So what are you on about?
Will you complain about every update, that is not the crafting update?
Actually read what was announced, before you start complaining…
Nobody claimed that the next update is supposed to be the solution to all problems.
In fact, it was announced, that the new crafting system will be rolled out in a later update.
So what the hell are you on about with that?
The new penances are not THE solution, but one part of the new content that is coming.
“just more grind”…
People like a good grind, so more grind is not necessarily bad (although you make it sound as if it is).
Good penances make for a good grind.
The current crafting system is simply a terrible grind due to massive rng and thanks to the system massively disrespecting the player’s time.
The amount of RNG involved in current penances is pretty much zero.
What the hell are you on about?
The class penances either just happen while playing, with absolutely no effort at all, or they can be done within 1-3 missions of you trying to get them done.
My god… Truly a terrible rng ridden grind…
The only penances that are actually kinda annoying/RNG dependent, are the ones that require you to play a specific mission type 250 times, which is kinda bad since we only have 1 investigation and 1 repair mission.
No argument here. The pace at which they release new content and fix the crafting issues, is snail like.
You only need “the correct map” for the penances that explicitly require you to play a specific mission type.
A private lobby is only required for something like 6 penances overall.
“Playing the wrong way” does not really mean anything. Unless a penance literally requires nothing of you (aka unless a penance does not actually exist), there will always be a way to “play wrong”.
Luck is not really a relevant factor for any of the penances.
Maybe for 1 or 2.
Btw please point out where i claimed that the current penances are great or something like that.
Also please re-read the announcement and notice the sentence:
FS: “We are reworking the penances and adding new ones.”
OP: “But i don’t want the existing penances changed or new ones added, because i do not like the existing penances as they are.”
On this particular topic, what Fatshark said was almost word for word identical to previous vague statements and attempts at updating crafting that resulted in what we have now, with no timeline or concept given for what changes might look like.
Following this, we are working on an overhaul of our current itemisation process. With the new system we want to remove a lot of the unpredictable grind that came from an RNG heavy system whilst giving players more agency and a steady manner to progress toward specific loadouts, blessings, and stats refinement.
I think calling this issue out is fair. They tried to “fix” crafting before, saying almost exactly the same things, accomplished largely nothing, and as of today we’re now in Q2 of 2024 without any content updates having gone live and it’ll likely be several months yet before any crafting changes are in play. Not feeling the warm fuzzies on this issue just yet.
OK crafting is balance thing. Alot of considerations needed and time…
But improved penance UI. Probably better to have better inventory and crafting UI with criteria filtering and batch functions, also place to archive clutter weapons. There are already mods that do some of this, would of been so easy to integrate the modder’s work already done.
Honestly they should of skipped penance work and penance UI. Spend time on nexus mods and integrate all those wonderful QOL mods, well the ones which have no effect on gameplay balance. The work by modders alreadly done, just seek permission, reward, credit them and integrate.
