What is Fatshark doing?! This is their third "tide" title. Why does it feel like their first?

Maybe it is their first title? If by ‘their’ we take to mean ‘developers currently employed at FS’.

Is this a case of original team having left the studio?

I’m not on their HR mailing list, but some loss of talent by the studio was on my mind for some time already - it kinda explains a host of things we see from the outside.

  • a fully functional crafting system
  • an end of round scoreboard

These 2 right there are the biggest RED flags for me, and ultimately, will end the game for me, as I’ve no incentive at all to keep playing it.

Great topic man, agree with you in every point. As a vm2 veteran (+1k hs), disappointment is an understatement.

They should at the very least provide us with a roadmap. But not even that.
Well, guess we can always go back to VM2, at least we still have that.

It adds up with the melee combat feeling like a downgrade to Vermintide 2. Either the gameplay director from Vermintide 2 decided to throw everything away when transitioning to Darktide or he actually left.

Do we know who the game director was for vt2 because Darktide has some guy called Anders.

Wiki tells me it’s the same guy:

So what the hell happened between Vermintide and Darktide to result in such a drastic transition in design as well as game philosophy, and don’t tell me it’s because of the shooty shoot mechanics.

It´s just poeple moan about everything and don´t understand the choice or how it´s actually better than the V2 rewards.

You´ve explained it well already, instead of some RNG chests to open, we gonna get new guns / curios to buy at a vendor every hour. Yeah it seems to suck at the first look, but have anybody thought about the pros of it compared to V2?

a) Even if you lose a game, you´ll still get money, not just a bit XP for a more or less useless commendation chest. So even if you lose permanently, you can still buy every hour new stuff instead calling it “time-wasted”.

b) What have you got in V2 within a hour… about 2-3 chests, sometimes only 1 on longer maps? Those are 3-6 items mostly, often stuff you don´t want / need aswell. Here you´re able to get way more per hour.

c) Imagine you´re able to buy whatever you want immediately. Yeah sounds cool, but it´ll significantly decrease your gametime and you probably won´t try out stuff much. That´s the major reason why RNG loot exists for so long in any games.

d) You´re not going to waste years for opening chests, just to be pissed of that there´s still no red-drop.

So far the current system is actually better and more customer-friendly than the old one.

  1. Crafting wasn´t that great at the beginning. Also it´s not deep or anything. Just a tweak to get faster to the stuff you want. I guess it´ll be here soon, you´ve to farm mats right now anyway.

  2. Not everyone wants a scoreboard and if you asked me, yes… it made the community even more toxic. Poeple ran it down for green circles or have been like “Ühhh i knew he sucks!”, when they wiped and saw how others performed, which pushed them more in the direction “I´m a godplayer, you all sucks!”.
It´s definately not needed, was buggy for clients anyway and doesn´t show the result how good someone performed or if someone sacrifized his green circles for a win.

  3. Look above.

4./5./6. Yes FOMO sucks, but it´s still a decent shop for modern gaming taking the sets into account. Get away with FOMO, reduce the single-piece prizes and it´s fine. It can get far worse…

  1. Maps are missions here and we got 13 of them. Yes some are in the same zones but different to play, but seriously… that offers more and faster content in the future. Also the maps are way more detailed.

  2. Yes that´s a thing that needs to be addressed. 4 classes are just not enough and i personally don´t see a lot of poeple going to main Ogryn. But as i heard, there should be 1 new class every 3 months so… I hope it happens, would be great for a live-service game.

  3. nc

  4. Can´t follow you here. Which RNG mechanics? You mean the bars or the weaponshop again? Said already something to the weaponshop and why it´s better than the chests from V2. And like i said, crafting wasn´t there back in the day as it is right now too.
If you talk about the bars, i think it´s better. Even after 1000h you might fine a new god roll. It´s just permanent progress, even if it´s not that big of a deal.

  5. Yes V2 character design etc. has been great. But a real story wasn´t there aswell. The difference just lies in the character-creation. We got one thing, but traded the ubersreik 5 for it. It´s ok i guess.

The devs gave you two flavours of garbo to eat lootboxes or rng store.

NEVER, in a thousand hours + of gameplay in VM2 have I seen any toxic comment about the scoreboard. Guess if there were any, was in lower difficulties, but in Legend and Cata, never seen any. On the contrary, I saw tons of times people actually asking about weapons and builds from the players that did better on the scoreboard, to IMAGINE THAT, improve themselves!
It’s a big boost to help players improve themselves, and to feel good about themselves if they are doing good. ANY co-op game out there understands that and have a scoreboard in play.

But not here, no, here people are different, they don’t care about any of that, they just want to have fun! YEEEY!!

And guess what? That’s okay too, whatever works for you, but for most players that are used to it, scoreboard actually matters and adds a lot to their “fun factor”. So if some people don’t like it, that’s okay, but respect and understand those that actually want this feature. If people don’t like the scoreboard at the end of the mission, just ignore it, and move on, no harm done.

Help us get the most of the game, by implementing stuff that everyone feel that’s missing from previous Tide games!

The crafting system, even though it is simple, it’s really important to get the most of the gear and be able to do the hardest difficulties more easily. I don’t think the RNG store will go away at this point, but it really needs to be improved. The weeklys too. All in all, with all of this implemented, it will be a good game, but until then, a huge disappointment. Rather play VM2 again.

It´s not about someone is telling other about the scoreboard, it´s the mindgame behind it. Poeple will suddenly feel super strong, because they´ve the most green circles, which often leads to arrogance etc… Then stuff like instakick of certain classes, no meta weapons or just a guy dieing to bad luck will happen. How often have there even been hosts leaving calling others JFA??*ÄADÄS?! Way too often…

Also as been said, it doesn´t even reflect what actually happened in the game and how useful someone was since:

a) Some classes are better than killing X or Y.
b) Some poeple play to protect the group.
c) Some poeple do the objectives, meanwhile others greed for kills.
d) Spawns are different per map, so you don´t have a real stat to say “i did better this time”. Maybe damage income, but it still depends.
e) If it´s buggy as it was in V2, then it´s useless anyway.

So srsly don´t know what poeple want from it but getting the feeling of “Yey i´m the best, i´ve the most green circles wuhu!”.

Nothing against personal stats only.

EDIT: As i´ve said, the RNG store is actually better than the chests you may or may not get after each run. They could also introduce loot that drops as dozens of other games have. Then poeple will still complain about RNG…

I´ve already made a thread to hopefully increase the weeklies in tiers. So even if you´ve only finished like 30%, you´ll get the reward for it. If anything… NO dailies please.

I don’t care if this title does not have previous things that were implemented previous, the issue is that they weren’t replaced by anything either. It’s just lazy, low effort basic implementation of shadows of what we once had. They didn’t replace it with a different system for the most part.

Scoreboard and the item shop are linked to be a super feels bad compared to what we used to have and have come to expect. Why is it feels bad? Because you don’t have any reference point as to what your weapon was really doing. I have no idea how many kills and what kind of kills I got. I have no idea if all the stuff I saw I was killing was just weakened enemies and someone else was doing all the damage. I can’t go into the lab and get a strong idea what each weapon does because I can’t realistically have them all at the same level and stats.

if we want improvement, this might be how:

Still plays a game, for 1k+ hours no less, 4 years after release ; makes a dramatic “this is the end” statement 5 days after release of Darktide for functionalities to be rolled out in a near future.

Sums how far that echo chamber of absolute negativity goes so far.

Yeah no need to get “dramatic” over functionalities that were expected to be in a game for release not existing. Don’t get why their play time factors into your point in the slightest as Vermintide 2 did ship with a crafting system.
Actually what is your point of the negativity echo chamber you mention? Are we as consumers not entitled to what was meant to be in the final product of something we’ve spent money on?
Should we not critisise the product we recieve if it’s not up to an acceptable standard, just accept what we’ve got?

The big kicker for all of this is that we have not been given a proper time frame of when to expect these functionalities. If Fatshark wanted to help ease the doom and gloom this horrible “negativity cabal” is pushing wouldn’t they want to appropriately explain why they weren’t able to push these features out when they intended to instead of leaving everyone in the dark?

Already happening in Darktide.

Why does it feel like, with each of Fatshark’s new game, gameplay gets better, but everything else get worse?

Mission selection was perfect in Vermintide 1.
Bounty board was perfect in Vermintide 1.
Crafting was perfect in Vermintide 1.

Why do you feel the need to change things that worked great?

Yeah, ever since they got rid of the scoreboard, I got a lot better. I’ve carried every team I’ve been on. Damn, I mean, it’s just amazing how everyone but me on every team I’ve been on has sucked.

I had no idea I could carry every team until they got rid of the scoreboard.

This was 2019, since 2021 Tencent has the Majority ;D

It is just sad, because VT2 had everything we would need here - more polished gameplay, better map selection, private groups, crafting, only real money prices, no timed skins, etc.
