What do you Enjoy about DT?

This post, and the few posts that will follow will serve as a place for those who enjoy the game and its many elements. This is a reboot of a previous thread as people seem to have a difficult time staying on topic.

Feel free to discuss whatever you wish, keep it within FS guidelines. Understand that there are people on this forum who vehemently disagree and will go out of their way to tell you why you’re wrong and will try to silence you. But fret not, you have allies in this thread, as well as with me.

If you want to complain about the game, go to “Crafting Memorial” Or “Morning Star Memorial” That’s where those posts belong.

My Review:

Crafting - The test of skill.

Crafting: Credit to @Jonn

As I see it, there a five ways to getting weapons and/or curios. First one would be to get gray items from brunts to later upgrade at hadron. To gain the required resources to buy gray items would be to run missions to gain ordo dockets, the higher the difficulty, mission modifiers and side missions will increase the reward and the rate at which you acquire said resource.

Base Stats and Suggested Methods

To find out how many you can buy you need to see which difficulty you can personally clear at a resonable time and then see the specific cost of the specific weapon you are interested in. The weapons you purchase comes in the ranges from 300-380 with the stats spread out over five bars to a maximum of 80% in each given stat bar, there are currently no way to increase the chance to get higher base ratings nor is there any way to designate a stat to be a “dump” stat to be low rolled. This is then followed by dismantling all the leftover grey weapons unfit for upgrading.

Upgrades

Hadron is Brunt’s partner in crime. A way to use crafting resources gained from running missions, and as before, the higher the difficulty level the better the rewards. Here you use plasteel and diamantine to upgrade weapons and curios to unlocking new perks or blessings with each step, for a total of two perks and two blessings for weapons and three perks for curios. Hadron can also, for a small fee, change two things for each weapon, either a mix of perks and blessings or both of the same, meaning changing both blessings or both perks. And also change two perks on curios.

Then we have the hourly shop [also run by Brunt], which will contain a certain amount of weapons and two curios that will be refreshed every hour. There is no way to currently increase the chance of a specific weapon type or curio with a specific blessing attached to it to appear in this shop and all the gear you find here will be capped at anointed level and a certain level of blessings, meaning your are more likely to find level 2 blessings on the weapon available here. If you want to check this hourly shop with more then one character, some time will be spent loading into the Mourningstar hub and then having your characters run to the shop. Mods can be used to help with this, but not everyone knows about them and some are unable to use them.

At fourth place we have the Emperor’s Gift, a reward given for completing a mission. The harder the mission the higher item level will be granted, not the be confused with base rating of weapons, it means that there is a high chance for the item to be fully upgrade already with two perks and two blessings or in the case of curios with all three perks unlocked. You will only be given one reward at a time and there is currently no way to increase the amount of items rewarded or to influence the chance of specific weapon or curio to be gifted.

And at last place we have sour Melk. A daily shop where you will find items that are at exalted and transcendent item quality, same as before with a wide variety of weapons and most of the time a curio. Since they are at such a high item quality it is a good way to gain specific blessings without using plasteel and diamantine. By doing weekly contracts for Melk you will gain currency that can be used for this purpose, or to be used to gain a random melee weapon, ranged weapon or curio. There are currently no way to increase the chance to gain a specific weapon or curio (with the right blessing) and the item you will be rewarded will thus be random. Resources are shared and you pool this weekly resource faster depending on how many characters you are doing them on.

As for me?

I love the crafting system because you can be given a completely quirky weapon and you’re in a lobby with someone who has a god roll. And skill becomes clear (with a scoreboard mod) where just because you have a good weapon doesn’t mean you’re good. I think that this effect is well represented with the current locks that exist that strike a perfect balance between RNG mitigation and RNG’s existence in the game as a whole.

Plus there’s the whole “Working with what you have.” narrative within the game that augments this. I am here for it.

There are some who just want to be able to adjust the modifiers in some way while not being given carte blanche. I respect that, and I agree. That’d be healthy for the game and the crafting system such as it is.

@Jonn clarified what I was saying far better:

“I’m just going to assume that there has been a lack of clarification on what you actually meant here, If I get it wrong I apologize. You don’t really mean that getting a good base weapon and taking it to hadron for upgrading takes skill, but what you are referring to is that the end result, regardless if it is the desired result or not, the weapon can still be used to great effect and thus coming back to that player skill is the deciding factor, not the weapons that you use or how they are crafted that matters.”

Music Hits hard. I can’t relay how many times I’ve listened to the boss music over and over again.

Aesthetics My brother and I will just go around the Mourningstar and admire all of the art and detail that went into it. We have sometimes even gone on difficulty 1 just to go check out the various maps and go sightseeing. The lighting is phenomenal. Even in dark places, this game just goes hard.

Weapon Variance. Superb, almost overwhelmingly so. Sometimes, weapons can seem redundant and made inferior by other types of different marks. But the best part is when you get a God Roll that makes it outperform the META chasers with the better marks. Always brings a smile to my face when they criticize at the start of the match then get dumped on in damage.

Enemy types Good variance, enough that when combined with map prefixes, this goes super hard that can create some absolutely brutal phalanxes be they ranged or not.

Morningstar This is probably my favorite part of the game with the myriad number of characters and their different personalities. I enjoy the BGM and love soaking in the ambience. I don’t know much about WH 40K lore, but this place really leaves me asking a lot of questions. Such as servo skulls that serve as what appear to be glorified printers. But hey! It’s darktide, it’s awesome. You can’t really find another game like this anywhere else with everything it has to offer.

Penance System Probably one of the most enjoyable frustrating mechanics in the game. Nothing pushes me harder to do better than this exhaustive system that not only is a built-in strategy guide for your class, but a rewarding system of free cosmetics. That’s a very clever system and it’s quite well implemented as well.

I currently play the game, and I have over 1880 hours in it. I honestly can’t get enough of it.

“…You can tell a lot of love went into crafting it, and every time it comes on while swinging at hordes of heretics- the adrenaline starts flowing, and it leaves you wanting to shout ‘FOR ATOMA!!!’”

"…As of August the most recent updates have really improved a fair amount including crafting and adding super-serial difficulty (Auric Operations), both of which are m**ive improvements for the player experience. I now feel like I would recommend that friends buy this game, and I’m cautiously optimistic that future updates will keep adding positive improvements and fixes. Thumbs up from me."

My Suggestion? Just say what you do agree on. Then go about what you enjoy if you must, but I seriously recommend against voicing any sort of disagreement.

After falling in love with Vermintide 2 this game was a must buy for me. in the first year when it came out there were a ton of crashes and bugs but today the game is more stable and very solid. it still lacks some end game content like more maps/enemies and better itemization system but overall its a solid buy if you’re a fan of this genre. I got 750 hours in it already and the gameplay is still satisfying.
Every now and then the game goes on sale - GRAB IT!

I absolutely love this game i wont say its perfect as it does have a lot of flaws such as: limited missions, not a complete story with a flowing mission set like Vermintide 2 or Left 4 Dead witch is disappointing, weapon RNG is annoying but once you find weapons you like it doesn’t matter as much, and the premium cosmetics can be a bit pricey at times for what they are but its completely optional so you don’t have to partake if you don’t want to dish out the money, overall i do think its pretty fun especially if you like 40k and the Guard one of the better FPS games for this IP but does still need work and i hope FatShark continues to add content to it and make it the game we deserve to serve the God Emperor.

*8/10

Extremely replayable, best 1st person combat you’ll ever see, chunky sound design, great enemy variety, and map variety. Only major downside is the obnoxious rotating cosmetic shop, it needs to go. Love me Emprah, 'ate chaos, simple as.*

Darktide released in a very very rough state. It missed a bunch of features the Vermintide games had, some of the features were not very well implemented and the different classes lacked significant depth.

No more! The devs put a lot of love into this game and now it feels like a worthy purchase. Each class has its own customizable playstyle, there’s lots of rewards to search for as you go through each map to keep things fresh and the emphasis on teamwork makes the game appropriately challenging.

If you were interested in this game, but skipped it due to the poor release, I’d recommend giving it a try now. It’s in a much better state now and there’s still frequent content updates.

The game got bad reviews on launch rightly so because it wasn’t finished, i have to say the game with the current crafting and the class talents has imo become a complete game. Some people complain the game has a lack of content meanwhile they have 400 hours, im not here to say how much is enough as everyone has different on what content even is but i will say that for the price asked it has enough there.

The core gameplay is phenomenal, the crafting depends on your tastes, RNG crafting is fun for some people and frustrating for others if this feels like a bad thing to you then do not buy. The progression has kind of bad at launch but has improved drastically.

All in all a good package for 40$, especially if you have a couple of friends and like the L4D format.

Big Warhammer fan for a long time. Played a lot of Vermintide 2 before this.
Darktide improves on all the combat mechanics of Vermintide, creating fast-paced crazy firefights and intense fights against waves of special enemies.

Devs are unfortunately terrible at updates or adding new content, but at the moment there it well enough content to last you hundreds of hours of bloody fun.
There is an RNG crafting system, but it doesnt really matter that much; you can play on most modes with any gear you like, (even if min-maxing players say otherwise)

After almost a year and a half of updates, this game is now at the standard it should have been up to at release

The core gameplay was always fun, crafting is now decent and there are some fun skilltrees to mess with. Whether or not this game is worth full price is up to you, but I’ve gotten my money’s worth out of the game and will continue to play

After the initial bumpy release the game is in a VERY good state now. The classes have actual builds, the crafting is on point, the game modes are fun and the maps as beautiful as ever. Im glad i didnt lose hope in this game, as its a ton of fun.

Ummm, you’re doing the exact same thing again as you did with your other threads. You can leave the first post as it is, it’s your and other’s opinion and all, but as soon as you have to have that post pre-defending your own position by pre-calling out other people, you’ve already cast this thread into a combative light again.

It’s the tonal difference between saying “I like thing” and “I like thing and anyone who doesn’t suck”.

Adding that post really makes it you’re looking for a fight regardless of your intentions.

There have been threads where people have praised things with absolutely no backlash and negative replies, because they aren’t implicitly trying to backhand opposing views or people pre-emptively.

I’m fairly certain he just wants to pick fights for attention at this point.

I’m not planning on giving him the satisfaction.

I hear you.

However, I want to share this word of caution which is based on my experience. I’ve noticed that when people discuss crafting positively, they often face strong negative reactions.

I believe it’s important to express what I’ve experienced on these forums, and I think it’s fair to offer caution to others without generalizing or pointing fingers at specific individuals.

I understand your perspective, but please know that I’m not looking for a fight and have been trying to avoid conflicts from the start of the previous thread. If you have any issues with me, please address them through direct messages rather than derailing the threads. If there’s a problem with what I write, feel free to bring it to me in DMs, or the moderators’ attention, as that’s their role.

As seen in the previous topic, some people couldn’t refrain from criticizing the system that others enjoy. Because of this, I feel a disclaimer and sharing my experience are warranted to help prepare others for the kind of feedback they might encounter.

If there’s a disclaimer you’d like to add that’s destructively critical of any of the DT gameplay and systems, feel free to send me a message and I’ll add it to the post.

This is all I’m going to say about that particular topic.

Thank you.

And I shall leave it by mentioning that this is the 4th thread you have posted on exactly the same subject doing the same thing (having that combative tone in your post). If you honestly wanted to say what your opinion was, you could have just said “It may not be a popular opinion” instead of choosing pre-emptively attacking people who may not share your view instead.

Thank you, if people want more information about why those threads have been closed, they can DM me.

as a note for everyone else entering/reading this thread: please do not derail the topic further, let’s keep this one at least civil, thanks all.

Why I love Darktide (and Vt1/2)

  • Visceral melee combat
  • Quite deep melee combat skill, that doesn’t depend on mouse drags
  • Great sound design
    → Voice Actor
    → Weapon sound
    → Ambient music
  • Free content

Now there are things that aren’t optimal, but those aren’t as problematic as some make it sound to be.

Thank you for closing the previous one as I had asked and not closing this one for spam. As I said, I’m not seeking conflict. While I do use some rhetoric that could be taken incendiary, it isn’t meant to be. I’ll send you the rest in DM.

And the first ‘positive’ post just had to downplay other people’s concerns/opinions, by soft-balling them as “aren’t optimal” and “aren’t as problematic”. It could have been: “there are some minor issues/flaws/bugs/jank/design choices/sub-optimalities here and there but they don’t bother me much”, it just had to be (paraphrased) “other people are exaggerating about the problems affecting their fun with the game”.

This is what I mean by the thread OP already setting the tone.

I like Darktide because of the great sound design (voices, the general soundscape and the music), it’s visually a very faithful adaptation of the Warhammer 40k universe and the combat generally feels good. It also has the bones and potential to be better.

There. Is it really that hard?

I suppose while I’m here I’ll tip my hat in for a positive:

For me, tide games’ moment to moment combat scratches an itch that no other game can, they’ve turned me into an absolute adrenaline fiend

I’m speaking personally, Crafting is a chore, it’s not a good thing, but it’s not as bad as other game i’ve played and they’re fixing it, it won’t be perfect and what some people hope it’ll be (I’m fairly certain that locks won’t disappear).

As for the communication, at this point I’m more on the favour of them staying as silent, never promise, never put comment that aren’t needed for community Support (Eg , the work Julia does).

Each time they do they have people that are fixated on the letter of the message and it just end up hurting them in the end.

The game is good, and it’s getting better at each update, that’s more than some game can say.

For my two cents, I like that Darktide manages to not just be Horribly Grimdark and Depressing all the time, and manages to mix in comedy and hope within the universe without seeming like a satire. Those parts are all excellently written.

Darktide has also poisoned my brain by making melee combat actually fun, rewarding, and powerful, not just a gimmick. Trying to go back to DRG and having to stick with this mediocre pickaxe “power attack” just ain’t the same.

I understand that, there are a lot of features in DT you can’t find anywhere else.

Here’s a few of my GASMR (Gaming autonomous meridian response) is:

  • Mowing down an entire hallway full of poxwalkers with the Gorgonum Twin Stubber (the big one)
  • Cleaving entire waves of elites in the head with voidstrike
  • Raising a defensive wall and spamming Trauma to knock even the biggest off their feet.
  • The revolver. Aint nothing feels better than putting a threat down with one very loud bullet.

Twitch Cata makes it more fun. Nothing gets my heart pumping then getting spammed with boss votes as I’m holding on to my nuts for dear life:

That looks like fun, twitch voting that is.

Oh it’s very fun when you play. In my experience if you focus on the thrill of surviving the silly stuff twitch Cata throws at you, then you avoid being frustrated. You will lose 99% of games you attempt on twitch Cata - so don’t focus on winning. The moments from the mode come from when you clutch an epic save to rescue allies or when you manage to hold down a boss so allies can focus on other threats - that’s what makes the experience so awesome for me, those moments.
