Weekly Missions are so inherently luck based that only grinding and long play time are rewarded and playing on Heresy or higher is penalizing progress.
So far i have seen incredible diffrences in scale of missions e.g. 5 to 15 grimoires, which are not impossible, but can severly affect the time needed to complete ones own weekly challenge.
This leads to grindy behaviour, because ofcourse you don’t want to miss out on progress if you have the time for it. For example i every week had “Complete 15 missions”. Now if i want to play effectivly because i don’t have much time, i will only play missions with grimoires until 15 grimoires are collected and only then i play quickplay. This basically limits the scope of any missions an effective player wants to engange in. Even worse are mission that limit you to a single location where you are supposed to complete the secondary mission. This is nearly impossible on quickplay, so if you decide to do this you only ever play one level until you either can’t or don’t need to any more. Ofourse you can just reroll that mission but if that is your argument, then why does it exist? It doesn’t even cater to the grinding enthusiasts because these ones do efficent grinding, like i described. It is just too unlikely for non grinders to ever complete 6 missions on the same map with completed secondary task.
Now sure. Lets say you have the time and are up for it. Lets do 15 scriptures, 15 Grims, 15 missions and 6 on a specific map with completed secondary task. Anyone who cares about the weekly missions will always flock to the one map where the one with the side tasks commands one too. Now the chances of getting this mission on your prefferred difficulty, with a side task are slim. Not so bad for diff 3, as they have the most choice, but if you play higher on 4 or 5 you only ever have two choices for (currently for me) the next 22 two minutes. If i wanted to do any progress on any weekly which is connected to a secondery objective on diff 4, I currently have to “waste” one entire mission of my playtime. Playing on Heresy or Dammnation limits your progression on your weekly missions!
As of right now, weekly missions want you to grind specific missions without any promise they show up during your play time on a difficulty that you want to play at. It either forces long time grinding or choosing a difficulty you might not want. Sometimes even to play the same mission back to back.
One might argue that maybe that system isn’t for me. I should just ignore it and play however i want, but i AM the target audience. I like to grind. I don’t care if i need to play the same mission over and over again. These missions seem tailor made for me, but the weekly missions just don’t mix well with the randomised level selection, which also caters more to casual players (more mission choice on lower level difficulty). Therefore i think that the weekly missions as it exists, are not a good implementation of weekly progression and promotion of daily play and punish the audience they are targeting.
