While I see that there is certainly a point behind teammates having a negative effect on your progression of the kill contracts, let’s be honest here and compare how big of an issue this actually is:
It is actually impossible to control how your 3 teammates play and even when you’re on comms with them, even the best premade can get unlucky and get a random death. Then there is the problem that even a single death will ruin the next 20 to 40min of your playtime because it’s a condition that can only ever fail. Your progress is over the milisecond someone dies and there is no way to recover from that.
In comparison to the kill contract, even when randoms/premades kill the one kind “the wrong way” you will always progress, only slower. Yes it can take multiple matches but they are never so slowed down that you cannot possibly finish them.
I was always able to finish them before any other contract and the only time I wasn’t, was when I had to get melee kills and was using the shredder… so then I used melee a little more often and the problem was solved.
I don’t like how so many just say that “this needs to change” and then not provide a solution themselves.
All that being said: I do see the frustation and there is a very simple solution to it. It is the same solution that VT2 had in its kill contracts…
Rework the kill contracts from: “get X kills of Y enemy in Z way”
To: “get X kills of Y enemy”
Simply removing the “in range” or “in melee” condition fixes this frustration entirely.
Exactly this… Nothing else I want or did I say… There is no need for the “this contract need a change more than that contract” mentality here on the forum… Everytime the melee/range contract problem shows up, so many ppl start arguing “no need for a change, but this or this contract has to change”… Always… Why?? Why not, “u are right, also yeah please FS change that contract, its just unnecessary annoying, and when u change this contract than change also this and this for that specific reason” … Always arguing against each other without specific reason… They can/should change both/all mentioned contracts, because they are awful/annoying… So why can we just agree on this specific point… They are annoying, it doesn’t matter if they are achievable on a longer term… In the end the are just annoying and there is no need for if they can change it for good (and that for all of us, if someone depends on melee/range kills, then good, they can go for it even if FS changes the contract to general kills, so everybody is pleased and no one needs to be upset)… Just a win win for the community… But … Ahhh nevermind
It’s kinda funny to me that in topics like this it’s always veterans whining that the game isn’t letting them just stand there shooting everything while their teammates tank absolutely everything for them so they don’t have to pull out their precious melee or some such.
Fun fact: You probably shouldn’t be shooting that horde your ogryn/zealot is controlling perfectly fine on their own, either let them have at it or just melee it yourself.
Also as was said, teammate kills count. Let your teammates actually play the game and you’ll finish the melee contract kills perfectly fine.
Sincerely,
Someone tired of veterans shooting literally everything ASAP even when it’s the dumber move to do so. (Seriously, stop shooting that pack of shooters that isn’t aggroed yet when your zealot/ogryn is walking up to it to engage them in melee)
Thank god the Op gets finally some proper insight of the basics on mechanics and playstle… I love these kind of “how to play DT and how not” guides for dummys… Hey yo OP… Did u here me?? Don’t shoot that friggin scab shooter pack… Just let the big boys kill all the shooter in melee and u will be fine…
few seconds later
… Uuhhhh damn, big boy was downed and messages this:
U are a useless peace of crap, u shouldn’t be called a veteran at all, why did u look like a r3tard and don’t shoot at those scabs??? Learn to play ur role… Use ur ult id!ot… What are u waiting for? come here and rev me up instantly… And why are u even camping there, miles behind me??? U know how coherence works, do u???
Ehm yeah okaaaaay…
Ah I love this game full of elitism… Its a glorious behaviour
It’s not elitist to not want veterans to shoot the unaggroed enemies from across the map, especially while your teammates aren’t in cover and actively trying to pull them into melee. That’s just playing smarter.
And way to escalate it to suddenly throwing in a bunch of things supposedly said in chat.
If somebody wanting a player to work better as a team player (in a way that takes nothing more than not being kill hungry) and not actively make the runs worse is being an elitist, sure, I’ll be an elitist in that case. If all you can do is make up stuff said in chat to try to defend your point, it’s not a very good one.
Yeah there’s probably some bigger topic about weeklies still being bad and not fun. Especially since they didn’t really fix them, unless you enjoy having no Melk money. You’ll only get like 2300 a week doing the bare minimum and the clear bonus, and most class-specific weapons will be 3000-3300 marks if they’re orange, like 2k for purple with T4s.
Not that everything is somehow discriminating against veteran specifically. I would rather have ‘kill scabs or kill dregs’ and not some PSA about how Veterans have a single weakness in the game that barely matters considering they have 2X the base toughness regen of everyone else in melee…
Lol its an absolute elitism behaviour to come here and start the conversation with “it’s always veterans whining that the game isn’t letting them just stand there shooting everything while their teammates tank absolutely everything for them” by which you indirectly (or maybe even directly) mean the OP … No, he doesn’t asked for a guide to play smarter (but thx anyway for the obvious) … And even if there are vets who trigger shooter packs miles away, than u can give him some advice to play smarter during that session … A 50/50 chance that he accept ur advice an adapt his playstle or he did not care at all… Then that’s the way it is… But forcing or harassing ppl to play “smarter”, also the way u think its the right or the only way, because its dumb to trigger shooter miles away, then its are a elitism behaviour… Fun fact: You can shoot hordes of shooter miles away and kill them all in no time controlling the situation perfectly fine on ur own, so ur mates don’t need cover at all, because there will be no one that can shoot on them…
So back to the original issue… .
The unnecessarily annoying contracts whose change wouldn’t harm anyone (change melee/range to just kill and everyone can kill those heretics on his own smart way)… That’s what the Op asks for… At least I think its this
The OP didn’t open the conversation with saying that weeklies that discourage playing a class to its strengths, they were whining that weeklies on veteran for melee are bad. They proceeded to make up hilariously inaccurate things about veteran’s melee capabilities, hand waved away that team kills count, then made a poll whining only about melee. Call it elitist if you want, but there’s a pretty common trend of veterans wanting the game catered around them, both on the forums/Reddit/in game while they also tend to make the game less fun for people playing other classes in game. It gets real, real old.
Fun fact: You can shoot hordes of shooter miles away and kill them all in no time controlling the situation perfectly fine on ur own, so ur mates don’t need cover at all, because there will be no one that can shoot on them…
Or just let your teammates engage them in melee safely without allowing them to shoot everybody from across the map. You can’t kill them all instantly. There’s absolutely no reason whatsoever to not hold your fire for 3 seconds while somebody gets into melee range with them, and only benefits to it.
All that said, if weeklies were made more generic in terms of kills I don’t think anybody would really complain. Weeklies in general are stupid as hell and just another FOMO mechanic. (Like almost everything of Darktide’s meta-progression stuff)
I’m rly tired, rly… I’m not here to argue with anyone about vets are melee monster’s or have a huge disadvantage compared to the 3 other classes… For me personally it’s just annoying to get forced to reroll a unnecessarily annoying contract for a huge amount of dockets every single week (ordos which I could spend for skins instead, skins that cost up to 1.000.000 ordos btw lol just pathetic) or get forced to go for melee/range kills at all NO MATTER which class I use… Yeah, maybe I want go on a killing spree with my vet using my new shiny PS… But then, a sh!t this would delay my progress on my 1000 range kills contract that I can’t reroll because I’m out of ordos because I rerolled the other unnecessarily annoying contracts like Play X missions or no one died in a match… Can anyone understand my grief??? Its soooooo annoying… Even more annoying because its not necessary… They could change it for good and no one would be harmed…
But instead I’m again arguing about everything else… Whining vets and what else… And not those annoying contracts… Time for a break…
I find this tendency of pseudo-marxist class-struggle you show here (You are not alone in this!) a very annoying component of online games. “Uh those players who main that class are egoists and want the game to be worse for anyone else”. Fact is there are toxic and constructive comments from all four “tribes”, I played alongside extremely competent and incompetent players of all four classes and I’ve seen many playing their class unconventional successfully. Could we maybe stop this “that’s a typical vet main” attitude?
I’m personally with OP as regardless wether it’s melee or ranged kill requirement: Both make me play worse as any class because they make me prefer one form of combat regardless of the tactical situation. I charge when I should be shooting or I shoot when I should go for melee - in any class.
Because there’s some legitimacy behind it. I make no assumptions about the person overall based on class they’re playing, but ultimately there tends to be a general trend behind what someone plays and particular complaints/criticisms. I’m not going “Ugh, I hate all veteran mains!” but in my experience veterans tend to attract a particular type of player and they generally seem to have particular expectations both of the game/game design as well as their teammates every single time, even when it’s objectively just worse for the team. Much like the elf meming in VT, it’s partially just joking, partially some truth, and partially just giving them a hard time.
Class/role judgements are going to exist in anything. Sometimes warranted, sometimes not, many times with some truth behind them.
Frankly I think that’s just an attitude thing in general. I’ve never had a problem with finishing the kill weeklies within 2-3 matches at most, just playing normally. Like I said, I wouldn’t really care if they changed them to be more generic, though that would also make it increasingly difficult to avoid annoying ones like “Complete X missions without deaths” or “Pickup X books” which are tedious at best, instant rerolls at worst.
Imo it is not any of the weekly tasks that are the problem. The problems are communication and accessibility:
The game does not tell the player, that progression for all tasks is counted as team effort. There have been multiple complaint threads about “kill x enemy with melee/ranged” because the players did not understand that the progression on these tasks is shared across the party.
When we really do not like a task and want to get a different one, we have to randomly reroll them, which can cost 500k+ dockets per character per week if you want more or less specific tasks and high rewards (this docket sink is excessive, since we can spend millions of dockets on cosmetics). This is pretty bad and leaves us with the exciting choice between “getting the weekly tasks that we want” and “not going bankrupt”.
The tasks with shared progression across the party should say “As a team, do x”.
There could be alternative variants of the tasks with lower requirements or higher rewards, that say “Personally, do x”
We should be able to go to Sire Melk and accept 5 tasks of choice from him (each week with each character, or account wide). Players could simply pick 5 out of the 10 tasks that they want to do on their character (or account). Since we would no longer need dockets to reroll the tasks each week, we could instead spend dockets to select different tasks if we change our mind, and to unlock the medium/high difficulty of tasks. Rewards should be tiered, so that you get some coins after finishing the low, mid and high requirement of a task. The weekly 1000 coin bonus should also be tiered, and be granted after 2/5/10 task stages have been completed (the full weekly bonus would therefore not require to complete all 5 tasks, or to complete a task on high difficulty.
The 10 available tasks offer a decent variety and although not every player will love all of them, all of these tasks are completely fine as long as we can pick our 5 favorites without it costing us an entire week’s worth of dockets.
All tasks are easy to do and are completed by just playing the game (except starting a mission with secondary objective and collecting the books).
All tasks also count the actions of your teammates (of course each mission completed only counts 1x), so nobody is pushed to try and get all the kills by themselves. Progression on all of the existing tasks is faster, if you play better, and can be sped up further by making certain decisions, which is nice.
Suggestions for additional tasks (preferrably, additional options should only be added, once we have the ability to choose exactly which tasks we want to do):
personally kill x enemies
personally kill x elite enemies
personally kill x special enemies
personally kill x enemies in a single mission (~250/350/500)
complete x missions with special conditions
complete x missions without you being downed
Currently existing tasks are:
Complete x missions (without anyone dying): Faster progression by playing on low diff and by playing better. Low diff missions are faster and safer. If you play better, missions are faster and safer in general.
The “complete missions” task requires 8 missions for the mid reward. In comparison, the deathless task requires 1/3/6 missions for low/mid/high reward, which is easy to achieve.
Getting 3 deathless runs by the time you finish 8 missions, should be expected.
Collect x books: Only task that actually requires you to do anything (select missions with secondary objective). Bringing books also improves your mission reward.
Kill x bosses: Faster progression by playing assassination missions.
Collect x plasteel / diamantine: Faster progression by playing on high diff.
Melee / ranged kill x dregs / scabs: Faster progression by playing on high diff, also by knowing enemy types and attacking them with specific weapons.
Sounds awesome! And as a bonus, it would allow us to finally use Melk coins for the gambling option, instead of holding onto them “just in case” there will be something worthwhile “tomorrow”.
(Because 10 tasks per week would result with 8 or 9k of Melk coins if I understand concept correctly)
Maybe coins from Melk could be used to also “increase” quality of service at other vendors?
They are a token of extraordinary work on our part after all…
Like higher chance to roll for Blessing or Perk (once-off type deal) with Hadron or permanent upgrade for quality of items at “Requisition Weapons & Curios”? Higher base rating till all randomization is between 350-380? Temporary boost, so all blue weapons have tier 3 or 4 Blessings (instead of 1 or 2)?
There are so many ways to create sinks for all available currency and at least increase our chances against RNG…
Sorry to disappoint but i think you misunderstood this part:
What i mean is, there are currently 10 different tasks (not counting low/mid/high).
If we had free choice which 5 of those we do each week, it would not matter that not everyone likes all 10 of the options.
Such a tiring interaction … threads like this shows me we every single time that we (the"community" of DT) deserve every shitty part of this game in his current state… Holy mother… Unbearable…
I have no idea why you felt the need to add that, at least I was attempting to have a discussion. Just drop it, I get it, you think I’m a terrible human, moving on.
Anyway, @Flawless has the right sort of idea, moving to an account wide system and/or allowing to actively pick the ones we’d prefer would go a long way to making them a lot more tolerable for everybody, but especially people who focus on finishing them ASAP (resulting in topics like this) while making them more palatable to people like me (who just dislike them on principle). Still not a perfect system by any means, but it would also make it easier to get data on which sorts of missions players prefer. (IE: If Fatshark sees like only 1% of people take the “Complete missions without deaths” or some such)
That’s assuming Fatshark doesn’t use that data for the purpose of evil.
I felt the need to add that because it’s always the same unnecessary prattling called discussion … Op addressed a point that’s annoying (range/melee kill contracts - like many before him) and every single time ppl show up and start this specific behaviour… “naaah this bs again, dude can’t handle the game and wants changes who will influence my gaming experience in a bad way”… And I think? Whut? How could this change ur gaming experience at all… There is no f#ck!NG way this change has an impact on ur experience because even if u like melee/range kills, then u can just play just like before… It changes nothing for u… The kill counter will rise up like before if u go for melee or for range… No negative impact for u (if there would a general kill contract instead of melee/range or FS would rid of the reroll costs or just change the whole contract system like Flawless mentioned for example)… But every single time ppl who have no issue with a annoying part of the game for others act like this… As example… For me personally I have no great issue with the locks on blessings etc… I can handle it like it is… It doesn’t bother me at all… But I can understand why ppl don’t like it how it “works” in this current state… So if I would behave like the ppl I mentioned, I would engage in every single “break the locks thread” with “naaah this bs again, over and over again, always crying about locks on pointless blessings, learn to adapt, gid gud then u can even handle damnation runs with grey equipment, making blessings and the locks on them obsolete, FS should better take care of other, really broken parts of the game, like X or Y, that’s much more of a problem”… But no I didn’t, because i understand even if the locks have not a great (negative) impact on me, they have a great (negative) impact for other… I have no need for “discussions” why the locks aren’t soooooo a huge problem like many many ppl think they are and u all should just stop whining like little p*ssys and play it like it is, or think if FS would change/break the locks, it would have an impact on my gaming experience… No not at all, I hope for all ppl who are annoyed af about the locks that FS will change or break them in a way where they aren’t annoying anymore… Thats the reason for my last post and I’m tired of this behavior because it happens every single time… Unnecessarily…
