The weekly missions like “kill 1000 Scabs with ranged” or with melee should be merged into just “kill 1000 Scabs”. Speaking only for myself, with my limited weekly game time, I play worse chasing these kills rushing into melee or wasting ammo when I shouldn’t.
I’m guessing that this was here to train people just used to FPS games to actually get into the thick of things… but I don’t like to encourage bad play.
I’m fine with weird penances as they are one-off things. These are weeklies.
Playing at a difficultly with more of said enemy helps. Just so youre aware YOU do not need to make these kills yourself. You need only be present in a game where those kills take place for them to count. Any teammates kills count provided they match the task.
Any weekly mission is counted based of activity in game not indavidually. So you can get 1,000 ranged kills with melee only. Best to play well and just let the numbers go on their own.
Ive found on the higher difficulties some of those high body count task only take two or three missions if im lucky.
They are two of the fastest and easiest weeklies that exist.
As long as they are separated, we have a higher chance to get at least one of them (and might get lucky and have both).
For your own good (especially with limited game time), you do not want them to be combined.
Btw you do not even have to do the kills yourself. Any kills by your party count.
when did they implement this? I went into damnation games, where my progress was like 30 kills, which aligned with the single scattered enemy types I killed. I was actively counting, cause the mission had only the few pre=spawned ones. Unless the game was just not registering kills for 90% of my missions, as it very well may be the case.
Are you certain about this. I have never thought about this, but the wording would imply that you have to do it, but I agree that it’s ambiguous.
I would still like to see them merged (just like grims and books are merged).
With that said, at higher difficulty levels ranged and melee merge together much nicer as you simply have to play a bit carefully. On Malice you can just yolo it.
You should know by now, that the wording of things, does not mean much in Darktide.
Why ever you would want to inconvenience yourself by removing half of the tasks that are the fastest to finish and do not even require any specific mission or modifier.
Because they’ll be even faster to finish if you can focus on playing well rather than chasing a weekly achievement. More types are also added, like gathering materials, and merging books with grims se there are plenty low hanging fruit left.
The ones that must die are the ones that require you to play certain missions that you cannot pick.

The real change needed is a text fix, "Kill 1000 Scabs with melee with your team"
That’s the actual objective. You don’t need to kill them with melee yourself, just like you don’t need the killing blow on monstrosities. Your ranged kills won’t grind it out fast (because they’ll take away from your team’s melee), but nothing forces you to be the guy doing the ranged kills.
That said, every class can do ranged/melee kills just fine. (And it is great to slightly encourage players to do one or the other, since that will slightly speed up how quick you do the objective.)
But as others have noted, they’re definitely the best weeklies in part because there’s just consistent progress (and also they’re kinda ridiculously well-rewarded for how trivially easy they are; getting grims/scrips is way more pain-inducing for slightly less reward, as I recall).
So personally I want more of those types of goals (and merging would create fewer types).
