Ripper guns are notorious for being clubs with a gun attached rather than a dedicated ranged weapon as Ogryns love to crush punies with them and often forget about shooting.
Our Ogryns however only do a feeble, dainty and quite frankly anaemic poke with them, they’re rougher with the Twin-Linked Heavy Stubber.
I propose that they get a version more fitting to the weapon’s reputation.
Taking inspiration (and screenshots) from Dawn of War 1, I propose the “Assault Ripper Gun”. This version is a melee weapon with the ability to shoot, like the Grenadier Gauntlet but with the ability to block and push (because melee on the Grenadier Gauntlet sucks without it).
This elongated, thicker and intimidating variant fires slugs, rather than pellets, and is meant for Ogryns sent to break the enemy line, softening armoured targets before promptly turning them into paste or rubble depending on the target with the rest of the gun. It notably has a much lower firing rate than the standard Ripper gun and an in-built delay between each shot regardless of how much the Ogryn slams the trigger, the delay varies between variants.
This weapon would fit into the melee slot, it would have an “ammo” function but no reload with it relying on Blessings: such as headshot kills with the slug to refund it, X% chance on kill and Elite kills, to refill it’s mighty drum.
it’s moveset mainly consists of vertical and horizontal smashes as well as slashes with it’s Ogryn sized bayonet with the occasional stab (meant to be followed up with firing the weapon). Note that firing a slug resets the attack chain back to neutral.
Variants include:
The Mark II. (The heavy variant)
Light moveset is: an overhead smash followed by a stab followed up by a stab. (Strikedown, Strikedow, Strikedown).
It’s push attack is: an upper smash. (like an uppercut but better and with a heavy object ((Strikedown)).
Heavy moveset is: an Overhead smash followed up by a horizontal slash. (Strikedown, Relentless).
Special slug for this variant is: a high damage one meant for dealing with big or annoying targets stunned by your hits, it has very high damage drop off however and is meant to be used directly adjacent to their cranium. Longest delay between shots of the three.
The Mark V. (The light variant)
It’s light moveset is: a diagonal slash followed by a horizontal swipe followed by another horizontal swipe followed by a diagonal slash from the opposite side of the initial one. (Vanguard, Relentless, Relentless, Vanguard).
It’s push attack is: a horizontal slash. (Relentless).
It’s heavy moveset is: a heavy stab followed by a diagonal slash followed by a diagonal slash. (Strikedown, Vanguard, Vanguard).
Special slug for this variant is: a brittleness applying slug. (It’s the Can Opener blessing essentially).
The Mark VI. (The medium variant).
It’s light moveset is: an overhead smash followed by a horizontal swipe followed by an overhead smash followed by a diagonal slash. (Strikedown, Relentless, Strikedown, Vanguard).
It’s push attack is: a bayonet stab. (Strikedown).
It’s heavy attack is: a horizontal smash followed by a overhead smash followed by a diagonal slash followed by a heavy stab. (Relentless, Strikedown, Vanguard, Strikedown).
It’s special slug variant is: a high cleave version with moderate damage, has the least damage drop off of all variants and most range, it is the most similar to a normal bullet making this variant the biggest hybrid of the three. Lowest delay between shots of the three.
There is absolutely no information about this particular variant of the Ripper gun anywhere, even getting an image of it is difficult hence the screenshots, but it does provably exist and got the greenlight to exist. The Ogryn desperately needs more weapons.
