We might be getting True Level into the base game

Check top left from the screenshots shared about the talent tree

not sure what you mean. the character’s name seems to be thryne-379, and the level shown below is 30.

anyway, true level (per character or account) is overdue.

??

Isn’t is the same thing as rn ?

I think its just their name. I guess you can have numerals in names for skitarii.

I’m such a goober, killing myself

I forgot that Skitarii will allow numbers

this and the scoreboard would be such a nice easter egg coming with a class based on cold hard logic :squinting_face_with_tongue:

along with a hadron like voice line “i’ve been playing for x terran cycles and i’ve been carrying for most of them” :joy:

damn you got me excited

weakness of the flesh moment

This is great news

Genuinely why does anyone want this in base game? Or at all really? Unlike the scoreboard, it actually is reasonable to say true level has no real function outside toxicity. It’s incredibly inaccurate at indicating actual skill and the only thing you can really do with this info is not let people join your strike team because you’re worried they’re not good enough. I guess you can see a big number next to your character and feel good about yourself???

I’m open to being convinced here, I just can’t currently fathom what possible benefit it has.

i agree with you and think it’s an annoying mod at this point too

if someone knows how to feed other players fake data with true level please let me know or make it a mod. i’m also not a fan of people judging my gameplay by my level. i notice significantly more passive aggressive remarks whenever anything happens on my 1000+ classes over my level 250 classes. i don’t like the way it primes people to antagonize someone. even if it’s not about me i’ve read things like “level 2000 and still getting overheaded lmao…” like it doesn’t happen to everyone

If it worked like VT2, it would just be visible to you. The only real trackers of progression in the base game are base 30 levels and penances. Once you’ve completed the penances, you basically have steam hour count and that’s it.

It would just be kind of cool to know how many more heretics over a million I’ve killed or how many times I’ve completed a map etc. It doesn’t need to mean anything.

Lots of games have prestiges, it’s form of progress, something to grind towards.

This number will do far less damage than scoreboard, because it doesn’t change gameplay habits, it just shows how long you’ve been playing at the game as the certain class.

And anyone with a heart and a brain won’t act toxic to people who’ve had a bad match, especially with how you can get absolute BS situations with enemies spawning behind you from a manhole with barely any sound or small eepy Mauler hiding his overhead inside 3 Crushers and 3 Bulwarks.

incredibly inaccurate at indicating actual skill

Yes, it’s not absolute. But the times I’ve had True Level installed I’ve met far more skillful players who have 300+ lvl characters than people who played really well with sub 100 lvl characters.

On average, someone who has 500+ lvls on a character will be more skillful and will know how to play more loadouts other than absolute meta ones. This is not just a number you can easily inflate, and it shows some form of experience.

I’ve literally never seen anybody kicked or even made fun of for their scoreboard performance. I have seen people questioned about their true level, and I have heard of people not being let into Havoc parties because of their true level.

Accordingly I’m going to have to put massive doubt on this assertion of yours. Unlike true level, scoreboard actually has a purpose for self evaluation (in my experience self evaluation is the number 1 reason people download it in the first place), true level has basically no purpose besides judging others and self congratulations. From a base utility standpoint scoreboard earns its right to exist 10x more than true level.

I understand the concept of prestige and won’t completely disregard the desire for it, even if I personally find prestige systems like true level to be little more than achievement-adjacent, shallow dopamine hits.

And yes I’m sure on average it does give some indication of general skill level, just not one reliable enough for me to personally value.

All this is to say, of course, that I don’t find anything you’ve said vaguely convincing of why this should be a base game feature.

Edit: good compromise would probably be a version where you can only see your own true level. It’s kind of a fun metric to have just for yourself, I can understand that much at least.

so you expect people, at the top most "shiver me timbers mode no less and the risk of demotion, to let about every stray jonny-rando into the team?

you WILL get measured, weighted and sometimes be found light, its what you get when dealing with people in general.

and people can swing the word “toxic” around all they want, from the earliest days of group activities , the runt was picked last or not at all as matter of not weakening the group or jeopardizing the result, what do you think changes when more numbers are displayed?

if the party creator wants a braindead psyker surefire parachute, a lvl 3000 veteran wont be picked either?

true level at least has (and i’d very much prefer an account level to gauge the overall experience of the subject in question) a metric of “how bad is he gonna suck” scale.

cause when playing exclusively with randoms your default expectation is 5 deaths or more for each :man_shrugging:

having someone in the thousands would suggest he at least be familiar with the map layout and enemy behaviors, though even the later isnt a given.

sub 500 is a “brace yourself and get that medkit lest it lands in useless hands” at higher settings and so far it hasnt been off that many times given the last 1000 or so replays from auric maelstrom and event STGs.

the dude in question couldnt be more uninteresting to me in terms of fingerpointing and

after all theres little time in such match where you have to put every fire out yourself.
true level just gives you a hint of how much water for the firefighting you should bring with you, aka cans of energy drinks :joy:

Why is there need for a compromise for a number behind a name? Come on, not everything has to be complicated or be seen with a potential for abuse!

I mean I think demotion is stupid period, and I don’t think it would matter that much if you were paired with less good people if the only potential time loss was the one mission you were currently running. I miss how impeccable the VT2 Cata vibe was, where if you ended up in a good group you might invite them to a spicy deed you had and the team getting their butts handed to them was often treated like a good laugh not their time being wasted.

But sure whatever, I’ll accept with the current Havoc systems, especially demotion, it’s a net positive to have true level. You probably didn’t need to type all that though. I got your point pretty well in its entirety by the second paragraph.

I mean I was talking about something that people want added to base game, which considering Fatshark’s stance on the scoreboard, isn’t likely to be implemented. I’m fine with it not being in the game, the suggested compromise was to make it more probable for the people who actually want it. I’m not invested enough to argue it further with you TBH.

:winking_face_with_tongue: :+1:

people learn at different rates though. some are good at character level 50 already, or maybe the have a level 2400 ogryn and no one knows. and then there are those with 500+ on their main class, but why would they bother adjusting their tactics.
