Seconded.
I concur.
If we need to go deeper into Veteran talents itâd be best served with a new topic anyway.
ripper gun, burn talent, bleed perk, cavalcade kills all bosses in 2 magazines (beast of nurgle from the front included), thats how i play it, its the strongest build in the game, it clears all rooms in half a volley even at long range
but of course veteran has to be the one under the magnifying lense
and thats it, thats all he needs folks
its bad on armor, sure, but for that he can just bring his OP mk 3b club
Add to that that itâs the most durable tankiest build out there. I run it with 450 health and 180 toughness while it also has something like 60-70% TDR and 20-40% HealthDR. Absolute insanity.
But gotta cry about the vet I guess.
lol why did i get flagged? Iâm just gonna lay down a meme here before bailing out of this whole chat
Unrelated, but ive been thinking a vet passive perk that gives them increased ADS magnification would be neat and actually useful for long range shooters.
If I had to rework vet (again), Iâd ditch the following entirely:
Catch a Breath and Kill Zone: these are not viable. Replace them entirely with new mechanics that are straight up, non-conditional passives, like all the other classes get.
Twinned Blast: Too random in its procâing to be worth the pick. 20% chance to not consume a grenade would be better.
Shock Trooper: Weapon specific perks should not be a thing. Replace it with a version that affects all weapons.
Other perks need to be reworked and the stat nodes need to be buffed to compensate for their rarity as well.
Vet needs to have more passives and more unique options available to it.
The veteran class is getting closer to decent but still bad.
Iâm still not a huge fan of the keystones TBH. Weapon specialist is good on paper but it feels awkward when I just wanna be slashing things a lot. I really enjoyed power sword + Kant shotty pre keystones and I kinda feel forced into weapon specialist since itâs theoretically the biggest melee juicer I can get access to with my remaining talents but pulling out a shotty every 10 seconds to kill a trash mob or whatever is around to keep buffs up hasnât stopped feeling kinda unnatural and disruptive to me. Iâm sure I can adjust more to it but I donât think thereâll be a point where it feels fun and enjoyable to use for me unless I tailor my weapons to its quirks. The +dodge range and speed in theory is great for power sword but that just makes it feel kinda bad when the effect drops off which happens frequently when Iâm lost in just slashing dudes. Also find myself trying to not swap to melee while moving around the level so as to have the buff ready when I need it and thatâs not exactly a problem but itâs just another thing that makes me feel like Iâm fighting my instincts while using it.
Left keystone is a big damage steroid and you definitely can keep it up (difficulty in doing so is hugely variable by gun though). Yes itâs very funny seeing heavy las pistol hit for like 2000 damage but again I just donât enjoy interacting with it, really I try to ignore it so I donât warp my playstyle around keeping stacks and play worse as a result.
I do like WS with plasma to prolong needing to reload as much as possible but honestly half the time on that build I donât find myself noticing or appreciating much else it does outside getting to spam shovel lights at pretty funny speeds.
I donât really have any useful suggestions for either of these. Heck Iâm not even saying these arenât all just me/skill problems but wouldnât mind reopening the discussion on the keystones now the tree changes have had a bit of time for us all to adjust to.
Iâm generally enjoying Vet at the moment regardless, tree changes are really nice and build crafting feels thoughtful and coherent now
@Nish you found a melee focused build for power sword youâd recommend currently?
Edit: Recommending any is pretty questionable, but the 3 below are what I would go for if you want to play melee-focused PS.
There are 3 ways to go about it.
First is my Ebola Vet build. With the tree changes you can drop Duck and Dive and Skirmisher to pick up Precision Strikes (which Iâm doing now) or any 2 of IW, COD, and CK.
This isnât as strong as running an offensive Zealot, and for how fragile it is the payoff isnât great, but itâs very unique, and with plasma, it can flex into ranged focused role depending on team composition. Itâs also an acquired taste, but thatâs the most fun I can personally have with a melee PS Vet.
Second, there is this:
With BM Mark VI PS this can hit some pretty hilarious breakpoints including 2 headshot kills on Crushers and Maulers with push attack without +Carapace. +Maniacs is recommended as it enables some other very good breakpoints.
You can drop one of the Stam delay nodes for Rending Strikes (or Agile Engagement or Field Impro, even 1 point Focus Target for some help with boss damage), but that doesnât do anything for PS breakpoints on this build.
Third you can do something like a mid-tree Bolter build with 3 Health Curios and play it as a Frontliner and Boss delete build, but again you can play a Bolter Zealot and do the same kinda better (a bit worse, but adequate boss burst while being better in everything else). Itâs more of a hybrid and a bolter build really, but it leans heavily into playing frontline melee for the team.
It looks something like this:
Iâd pick up Duck and Dive and a stam delay node with the leftover point if you are going for PS VI, but there are some other options. PS III doesnât need the stamina delay that much. You can also drop Redirect Fire to go more into melee (or get CQK and Marksmen Capstone for even more burst against bosses) using the Bolter as mostly a boss damage steroid on V-E-G Maelstroms.
Thanks to @Antilus for the concept for this last one.
I hate this so much about WS Keystone. Extra dodge speed/distance feels great with PS (and itâs all I wanted from a melee Keystone), but both dropping it randomly or maintaining actively feels horrible.
I really donât get that mindset - âI need to uptime every buff as much as possibleâ in game like darktide.
You can uptime it as much as possible, if you want, but you donât have to.
You still getting benefits by playing naturally. And you are getting more,
if you willing to put some effort and do something out of ordinary.
Thatâs great formula in my book.
I see big stacks or uptimes as a reward, you have to work for, rather than something that should be given by default.
If you donât like what it takes to be rewarded, then itâs just not for you and its fine.
Game is not suppose to revolve around you, there are different things for different people.
I think power sword is incredibly boring, but i am not going to ask to change it for my liking.
Because other people are already enjoying it.
As for weapon specialist, i didnât even looked at melee buff.
Crit and ammo refill is the main thing to me.
I am pretty comfortable with my melee, so i didnât even juggle weapons yet,
even though i am the right guy for that. I just donât feel i need it.
Also, i believe none keystone builds is stronger than ever and donât lacking at all.
I find it so terrible sad that everyone that defends how horrible the side keystones feel either use it as a partial buff or use it in a seemingly unintended way (Marksmanâs Focus with Columbus 5).
The problem with âwilling to put some effortâ is that it neither has a good enough payoff nor an enjoyable playstyle. As partial buffs they are lackluster, and with full commitment, they feel bad to play and are generally meh.
This design only works if either you can some incredible payoff or the playstyle is enjoyable.
With WS Is there anyone who thinks constantly swapping for melee buff is worth it or enjoyable? Is the Crit boost really worth it? We already have agile engagement. Are the other modifers worth picking at all apart from some meme tier build?
With Marksmanâs focus is it really worth it to pick up on a sniper build instead of picking Tag keystone and consistent rending? Is it okay that Columbus and Autoguns get a lot more out of it than single-shot Precision weapons?
Isnât this an actual problem?
No build on any class would give up keystone because they are build-defining/enabling apart from Vet where the only keystone that feels bad to give up is the middle one and the side ones are more like âmaybe nice to haveâ with not-enjoyable/unnatural playstyle if you actually want to actively lean into it.
Tbh I find Agrip Revolver to be pretty strong with Markmanâs Focus since it boost the damage just enough to hit breakpoint against most stuff while for Zarona it would be overkill.
Since itâs finesse based weapon itâs easy to get guarantee weakspot kill and with a bit of help from camouflage(and crabwalking) the damage potential can be pretty insane when you get it going.
Well, untill the big bloom hit or Ogrynâs fat buttcheek absorb all your bullet so you have to crabwalk out of the way.
Not arguing just asking. Is this worth it over running Focus Target! and Redirect Fire + Middle rending node?
Itâs depend I guess, middle tree is probably easier to use but if you want pure fire power right side seem to offer more imo. Sometime I run it with VoC instead if I donât feel like being sweaty.
I mainly thought about giving up Marksmenâs Focus for Focus Target purely while still running Executionerâs stance, but I partly got an answer.
Fitness power compared to 12% constant damage aura with additional damage on tag seems like a pretty comparative power boost to get the same breakpoint.
And i find it incredibly sad that everyone whoâs saying that side keystones are horrible canât see past themselves.
On that i wouldnât argue, itâs hard for me to say what should be buffed or nerfed in general.
Because iâm never playing meta builds and dont care whatâs the best.
Thatâs probably true, but everything depends. MF is the most enjoyable keystone for me. WS is neutral.
No, itâs a choice.
You either enable some playstyle possibilities, or making yourself stronger regardless of playstyle.
The fact that other classes have effectively super strong passives as keystones, is another story, which i donât really like.
If other people are able to enjoy and see value in side keystones and you are not, then whoâs problem is that?
You can argue that i am a single person who thinks like that and if thatâs true,
then my only concern is that:
Replacement or rework of side keystones shouldnât turn them into plain boring +% damage passives.

the problem with the vet overbuff are the orange perks, they have no business being still in the tree, they have to go, they had to go, and now they are making things worse for everybody
these 3
in patch 15 they sucked because they did little and could only pick one of those, and they felt like a tax perk
now you can get all 3 and they are still a problem because together they make your weapons super strong
devs just wonât understand these needs to go damn it
it would be +45% hs power/base damage/close damage (same thing when boss fighting) +32% from focus target +20% of the unyelding perk
thats close to +100% damage when unloading your gun (with an extra +30% weakspot perk) to a boss face
as much as i love doing that i can understand why its a problem
revolver guys go with exe stance of course, so that would be an extra 25% + 25% hs damage
How is it a problem that you can temporarily buff yourself to be strong?
No, itâs fine. It makes the shout vet all the funnier to play.
Yeah, Markmanâs Focus boost is more selfish buff overall compared to Focusâs Target but it can enable something like being able to one tap Rager or two tap Crsuher by yourself, which can come in clutch sometime.
If your temmate is competent Focus Target will probably have more value, unless thereâs already another Vet running it. Idk if the buff stack or not.
Honestly I still think Markmanâs Focus could use a bit more boost like reduce spread/recoil so youâll have more control of your shot to get weakspot kill. Zealot literally have a talent that make their weapon more precise than Veteran thatâs Dance of Death lol
and maybe fix the god dang hit registor already so most precision weapon doesnât feel like arse against any moving target.
