Veteran isn't as bad as people say it is

I’m still not a huge fan of the keystones TBH. Weapon specialist is good on paper but it feels awkward when I just wanna be slashing things a lot. I really enjoyed power sword + Kant shotty pre keystones and I kinda feel forced into weapon specialist since it’s theoretically the biggest melee juicer I can get access to with my remaining talents but pulling out a shotty every 10 seconds to kill a trash mob or whatever is around to keep buffs up hasn’t stopped feeling kinda unnatural and disruptive to me. I’m sure I can adjust more to it but I don’t think there’ll be a point where it feels fun and enjoyable to use for me unless I tailor my weapons to its quirks. The +dodge range and speed in theory is great for power sword but that just makes it feel kinda bad when the effect drops off which happens frequently when I’m lost in just slashing dudes. Also find myself trying to not swap to melee while moving around the level so as to have the buff ready when I need it and that’s not exactly a problem but it’s just another thing that makes me feel like I’m fighting my instincts while using it.

Left keystone is a big damage steroid and you definitely can keep it up (difficulty in doing so is hugely variable by gun though). Yes it’s very funny seeing heavy las pistol hit for like 2000 damage but again I just don’t enjoy interacting with it, really I try to ignore it so I don’t warp my playstyle around keeping stacks and play worse as a result.

I do like WS with plasma to prolong needing to reload as much as possible but honestly half the time on that build I don’t find myself noticing or appreciating much else it does outside getting to spam shovel lights at pretty funny speeds.

I don’t really have any useful suggestions for either of these. Heck I’m not even saying these aren’t all just me/skill problems but wouldn’t mind reopening the discussion on the keystones now the tree changes have had a bit of time for us all to adjust to.

I’m generally enjoying Vet at the moment regardless, tree changes are really nice and build crafting feels thoughtful and coherent now

@Nish you found a melee focused build for power sword you’d recommend currently?
