Been playing Chaos wastes in V2 with some mates after dropping V2 years ago before even the first dlc released.
Chaos wastes is great it’s easily the most fun game mode in V2.
Got like 60 hours in the last month and 40 are probably just running Chaos wastes.
Wow some actual discussion that’s not some kid whinging. I too think Chaos Wastes is amazing. I love being forced to use the random weapons and traits along the way. It would be amazing if they added a CW mission/mode in darktide.
While a solid idea, I’d like them to flesh out what’s already there first. Get more creative and crazy with the levels and the systems they have in place. Modifiers are a perfect way to do that.
After thinking about it for a bit, Chaos Wastes wouldn’t work in this game because of how the base stats are. In VT 2, there is a base stat line for every weapon that doesn’t get worse, so it can be built upon. DT doesn’t have that.
That’s easy to fix in my opinion just make people start with 350 weapons and 5 upgrade tiers to 400 so you get perfect 80% everything.
Have a shop like smite that gives you 10% extra damage on the bar.
Have more on kill effects or on ability use or just when monstrosity spawn gain buff boons instead of potions or just add potions.
It just reminds me of Inquisitor Martyr, where the maps are very obviously block segments from tilesets, but they never got random/procedural generation working so they gave up on it and made sets of static maps for each tileset. I think the same happened for Darktide with is why we have all these static missions even though early on they were gushing about how CW was a test bed for doing procedural missions and how there are a bunch of shared tileset blocks for each zone.
It also explains why the mission selection is such a poor fit, it would have worked better if the missions were procedurally generated. Just another case of pivoting direction clashing with existing systems that weren’t remade or adjusted for the new direction.
