Unique weapon illusion ideas

Our weapons are already so damaged nobody would go to battle with this umgak.
Damaged armor - it would make sense if it got damaged in a battle, cause going to battle in battered armor would be just as stupid as going to battle with weapons that are clearly trash grade (yes, including red illusions).

It doesn’t bother me, tbh. It’s just meant to be grimdark fantasy.

Grimdark doesn’t mean heroes get themselves killed by intentionally using lowest grade weapons and armor. It’s grim and dark because of death and suffering everywhere, the world slowly descending into madness, raging war that can never end, humans and dwarves facing unimaginable horrors and fighting back.
This game actually needs good quality weapons because while you can fight just fine in a bit banged up armor, a heavily chipped, clobbered into oblivion and poorly maintained sword won’t cut properly and may break any moment. Same for bows and firearms (untreated wood anyone). Vermintide needs weapons looking like they belong in hands of veterans, and not beggars or idiots.
I would be really happy if they ever introduced armor getting progressively destroyed, they should also an option to use armor thay is already in pieces - game should reward such choices with giving skaven a random chance to deal much higher damage, which would nicely reflect the “benefit” of choosing trash
But on a more serious note - introducing damaged armor as a cosmetic would mean “no” to armor reflecting damage, and I would prefer latter over the former.

It’s an aesthetic choice to fit the grimdark feel, I mean. Yes, historical soldiers would have cared for their weapons as much as they can, but this isn’t history. I can get why some people might not like the stylistic choice, but I get why it was made - I personally don’t mind it.

I wouldn’t make battle damaged skins have any effect on actual health/damage reduction. You’d still have armor, it’d just be damaged. It’s really just a FASHIONTIDE idea.

Fashionable idea thay destroys the idea of your outfit reflecting the damage taken during round. So it’s not only ridiculous even in Warhammer’s reality, but also removes chance for another, immersive feature. And as 've said grimdark doesn’t mean everyone is dumb as a left shoe and wants to die asap. The world has its own logic and rules, and nowhere it is evem suggested that choosing heavily damaged armor would be a good idea.

And current state of weapons is sad and anticlimatic. You do hundreds of legend runs to get red illusion and you still carry a weapon broken beyond anh repair.

I would be willing to agree upon armor with signs of simple repairs - in the keep they may not have access to skilled armor smith and necessary resources, so they may be forced to fix some damage in suboptimal way - and you can’t just scavenege any armor, because it has to fit you, and while it may be possible to manufacture and hand out helmets and breastplates, pieces od armor seen on Saltz and Krub require some fitting.

I personally prefer the used look the weapons have. Even a well-maintained weapon will show marks of use pretty fast when they’re actually used, and the things U5 put their weapons through borders on abuse, what with directly hitting heavy armor, hacking off limbs and heads, blade-on-blade “parrying” and just plain constant fighting, for half an hour or more at a time.

That said, a few shinier, newer-looking weapon Illusions to appease those who like the bright-and-shiny look would hardly break anything, and would give us a few more options to customise our stuff. Adding them also wouldn’t take anything away from us who like the bit more dinged-up versions, so I don’t see why not. Well, except for the eternal resources question, but that applies to everything equally.

Sure, destructible armor sounds cool, but I was just talking about skins. I think you’ve got a different idea from what I mean; I don’t mean their armor is entirely removed, just that as an option you could have a version where they’ve got dings and dents and maybe missing small pieces, like one pauldron off Foot Knight. Ripped clothes, bloody bandages . . . Not huge wounds, of course, but the kind you wouldn’t be surprised to see on an adventurer on an adventure.

EDIT: well, OK, I know, I’m repeating myself, but as a fan of historical weapons and reneissance swordfighting, I’m really suffering :frowning:

Even banged up weapon can be shiny if maintened properly. And remember currently our heroes go to battle with weapons that are not just abanged up, they are already destroyed well past any repair anyway and showing years of neglect - the only place where these swords and axes belong is a melting furnace.
It’s wWarhammer with weapons made of Gromril and with magic inscriptions, itt’s absolutely reasonable to expect the blades to be in fighting shape even when abused, and it’s even more reasonable to expect that even lower grade, non dwarf made weapons should have obvious signs of maintenance, which means - being at least a bit shiny, with well oiled looking wood. Wood is just as big of a offender as metal, with Krubers bows being obvious fireplace fuel.

Anyway, it would be the best if indeed there were both trash/junk weapons (current illusions, all of them) and normal looking ones with signs of wear, but no signs of being way past the point of repair.

I think @Yzneftamz sorta nails it: any 1 weapon that any one of our dearest heroes uses will end up a piece of junk within 3 days of entering their hand. Additionally, with the lack of a smith custom-making Kruber/Bardin their armor around the clock, a whack from a bile-troll would end your armor for the rest of the campaign. Wearing armor that doesn’t fit-right is also not the best idea for folks who move so much that swimmers are envious of their muscle tone

However, also like he says, some shiny/clean weapon skins sound awesome as well! I’d love a very clean and unused weapon skin once in a while for when I want to feel fancy. As a fellow sword enthusiast, I also agree that I wouldn’t be caught dead with a VT2 longsword.

I was envisioning a red-illusion for a weapon that made it totally shattered with the chunks of the blade floating in place… not battle-worn, but literally broken and made to look cool with the power of mmmaaaaaagic!
