Unable to Play on official realm, Game won't open

Issue Type (Required):

Crash - On Launch

Issue Description (Required):

When I try to launch Vermintide 2 from Steam, it opens the launcher. I select the official realm and hit play, but the game doesn’t open. Instead, I just see the image of the Chaos Warrior (which appears before the game launches), and then the image disappears with nothing happening afterward. I can see Vermintide 2 running in the Task Manager, but the game itself doesn’t open. There’s no error message. However, if I select the modded realm from the launcher it does open, and I can play it. All my mods are disabled, and I even uninstalled them to be sure, but it hasn’t helped.

Here is a video of what happens: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lL74ECe5hOg

This issue started after I reinstalled the game on 20.10.2024, after not playing it for a while.

Here’s what I’ve tried:

Restarting PC
I’ve done this multiple times throughout troubleshooting with no difference.

Reinstalling Easy Anti-Cheat (EAC)
Reinstalled from Vermintide 2’s directory.
Verified that EasyAntiCheat is running in Task Manager.

Verifying and Reacquiring Game Files
Verified game integrity via Steam.

System File Check & DISM
Ran sfc /scannow and DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth to repair potential Windows corruption.

Permissions & Security Settings
Checked and ensured the correct file permissions for EasyAntiCheat.exe.
Verified that Vermintide 2 is allowed through the firewall.

Moved Vermintide 2 to C: Drive
Initially installed on G: drive, moved it to C: drive.
No effect, so I also tried moving it back to G: drive.

Deleted AppData Files
Deleted everything from AppData\Roaming\Fatshark\Vermintide 2.

Checked and Reinstalled Visual C++ Redistributables
Tried reinstalling the Visual C++ Redistributables.

Reinstalled .NET Framework

Steam Permissions
Ran Steam as Administrator and tried launching the game.

Disabled Steam Overlay
Disabled the Steam Overlay in Steam settings.
Had no impact on game launch.

Bypassed Vermintide 2 Launcher
Used the Steam option “Bypass Launcher (dx12)”.
The game launched but encountered the “Backend rejected the challenge response” error.

Checked Game Error Logs & Event Viewer
Checked Event Viewer for errors related to Vermintide 2 or Easy Anti-Cheat but found nothing.

Steam Console
Checked Steam logs and console outputs with no further insights.

Uninstalled Mods
Completely uninstalled all Vermintide 2 mods to rule out mod-related issues.

Flushed DNS Cache
Cleared the DNS cache with ipconfig /flushdns.

Checked Windows Updates
No updates were available on Windows 11.
Microsoft Windows 11 Pro Version: 10.0.22631 Build 22631

Checked Nvidia Drivers
They are already up to date.
Nvidia Version: 566.03 - Released: Oct 22, 2024

My system specs:
OS Name: Microsoft Windows 11 Pro
Version: 10.0.22631 Build 22631
Processor: i9-10900K
Motherboard: MPG Z490 GAMING PLUS (MS-7C75)

I’m running out of ideas how to fix this. Is reinstalling windows the only option?

I managed to fix the problem by using msconfig and disabling all non-Windows services. The culprits were AsusROGLSLService and services related to Citrix Workspace, AppProtection Service, Citrix App Data Protection Service, Citrix Policy Service, Citrix Workspace Advanced Service, which I sometimes use to access my university computers remotely. I tried also having these separately on, but I only managed to get in the official realm if both were disabled.

Hi @Leiska96,

Sorry for the delayed response here! I’ve just returned from a short time off.

Thank you for the update! I’m glad to hear you were able to identify the culprit and resolve the issue. I’ve made a note of your solution in case it’s helpful to others in future. Much appreciated
