Trapper

Youre right about sounds being more important, I mentioned this earlier and was called a rage baiter by the usual types. However, if sounds are being skipped you should probably consider dropping your graphic settings. I’m on a 3070 and have no sound issues.

Im generally ok, its when I played on the PS5 on Heresy and above that I sometimes ran in to issues. Im sick of being touched in the :poop:chute by Sony so Im not playing my console any more. But the issue does exist for those with lesser specs. Running my PC on an RTX 4070Ti and I keep the settings quite low so I get very little issues.

Iv noticed when I turn on RTX lighting and bang up the graphics I start getting some problems but Im quite sure that its my Processor, which is only an i5 8600 @3.1 GHz, thats my main squeeze point.

There are, however, some blind sound spots that are known. I keep meaning to take pics or video and report them, but Im terrible at getting round to stuff and usually just accommodate. Maybe thats why Im not that fussed about the Trapper issues, Iv learned to (mostly) mitigate them.

This used to be called skill. Now its called cope.

Not everyone has patience, over 5k hours in Tide games and a decent PC so I can understand peoples frustration.

100 hours or 5000 it may not make a difference at all for many.

There’s a good possibility the lion’s share of problems is simply people not paying attention or hitting their own personal limitations and OFC other PEBKACs. The cope the prev dude was referring to is to blame DT for 100% when it should maybe be blamed for 98-99%, Hel let’s say 90% for argument’s sake. And of that 10% blame, how much of it is catastrophic even in a full rando pug? It can vary quit a bit but still. Many of the forum regular complaints too should be taken with salt shakers for various reasons.

Audio Blind spots on some maps are a known thing, cues not playing or being drowned-out CAN happen, but I think the reality seems far, far different from what the Ork-like hive-mind has decided it is and there are plenty of bad actors and their rationalization in the mix. Lets not forget fragile gamer egos in all this…

P.S. Happy nosh day, AnalOgMunky!

Thanks :partying_face:

I think that even for the best players, the most talented and quickest studies out there, there is a vast difference, because of muscle memory.
Dodging is not something I think about now. I hear the cue and Im often reacting before my brain kicks in. No matter how good most people are thats something thats hard to do without practice. Not saying impossible and also some skills are potentially transferred from other games. But difficult.

Basically I think time is more important than many on this forum give credit.

A person who “gets” the game much faster than me, has better aim, quicker reflexes has, I feel, a higher chance of being frustrated at failures they think are out of their control when in reality they need more time, practice and some patience.

Iv noticed that good players dont respond well to being told they need more practice.

Iv said this before, but I will reiterate this anecdote:
I have a friend who is far more skilled than me at games. He chews thru games at an alarming rate and is by far the quickest study I know at games. He was becoming frustrated with certain mechanics. Complaining about all the stuff people complain about on a regular basis on these forums. Saying various things like trappers and dogs and crusher overheads are impossible to dodge.

He was dodging trappers at the wrong time. Dogs were jumping off walls behind him and still getting him (I advised pushing instead). He was attempting to dodge crusher overheads backwards and being tracked by the dreaded old sliding overhead.

I was trying to tell him this stuff but he was getting very annoyed. A couple hundred hours later he basically agreed with me, saying he was listening to my advice. The truth is… he had to “feel” my advice i.e. he had to just play and “get it”.

Now he plays other stuff :sob: its a shame cos we were getting in to Havocs.

i get the impression that many people are so caught up with unimportant details so they don’t see the forest for the trees, basically. experience helps with improving that filter, but then it seems that these people don’t ever take a break to think about what went wrong and why, so they keep making the same mistakes.

some favorites are those camping the elevator in the scanning area on oblivium, and then fighting the boss on the bridge that follows. or these guys who flail away at harmless zombies instead of just getting one out of a net asap.

LMAO, the cope here is unreal only with you, mr forum pro

Ooook just had to point out the glaring issue with this sentiment because I think you are right for all the wrong reasons.

Point A is nobody likes being trapped. That’s always been a pain point, and probably always will be. It sucks to be in a net. Sucks bad, and sucks worse when you find yourself unexpectedly netted (clipped, no sound, aimed at someone else, etc. etc.). And yet, take any game mechanic that punishes you and you get a reward by avoiding that punishment. Double reward since you can spare your teammates too.

Point B is that Trappers disproportionately affect groups with inexperienced/inattentive players, because they are less likely to drop everything and help a trapped player which is what you should do 99% of the time. Yet another reason there should be more tutorial/guidance for new players, to help all players.

So basically nobody is saying this (yes I understand hyperbole, and the non-specific ‘you’):

Because by your own logic, you’d rather they just increase the trappers net by 300% and have it shoot like a sniper shot across map because ‘they aren’t an issue’,

And the answer is close to this:

and it just baffles me how little people seem to care about ‘meeting people where they are at’ on this

Because you have a bunch of people complaining about something that’s really easy and understandable to complain about (nobody likes being trapped) and yet a pivotal design point (punishment vs. reward). And yet the solution is not broadcast (un-trap your team ASAP), so you get to watch your teammates play the game while watching your HP tick down slowly while rapidly building resentment towards the game.

This mythical middle you speak of is much closer to “Fatshark get your :poop: together and resolve all the bugs” and “yeah it’s really annoying that Trappers do X”, and “gosh I wish players understood to drop everything and hold E” than:

and would rather just keep arguing a point they don’t even logically stand behind.

Because we are not operating solely within the realm of logic. We are talking about giving sympathy (or advice) to players who hate an enemy designed to be hated within a buggy game engine within a game that requires precise reactions and responses (see: Recipe for Disaster), while catering to players who have adapted to the mechanics. With a side of gluttony for punishment (why else are we here :grin:).

In summary…

What is pleasure without pain? :face_savoring_food:

I said it multiple times now, FS should basically add this mod to the game

It makes so much sense, Hookrats have the skulls dangling sounds, trapper should be constantly laughing to know where they are

It’s so simple

UheheheheYahahahahaAhahahahahaMuhahahaha No.

Trapper would be 1000% less annoying if other enemies didn’t attack you whilst netted.

If you just slowly lost health and gained corruption (like a hound attack) then peoples frustrations would be waaaay less imo, including my own.

At higher difficulties there is no point even being a net. You only get trapped when in a mosh pit and then it’s insta-down so the fact it’s “trapping” you is a pointless formality. It’s an instadeath, especially if a flamer or pack of maulers or crushers or bulwarks are on you.

Let’s just assume that audio is never going to be not-broken in DT. I’d rather any trapper “fixes” were not audio additions tbh. They’ll just end up not playing because 5 trappers from different angles are coming at you at the same time..

GIve crouch a dodge window specifically for nets (and maybe dogs). It still would make it completely skill based but give you a fair option to deal with the double/triple/quad spawns without needing to change anything with the sound/memory issues they can’t seem to fix.

I think I saw someone say that worked with hookrats in VT2 so if that is true then they already have a solution that should fall somewhere in the middle ground of this nonsense.

I use the mod and it always plays flawlessly, even if 1 laugh is skipped she’ll laugh soon again shortly

Because it replaced the footstep sound with the laugh.

	sound_data.events.footstep = "wwise/events/minions/play_traitor_guard_netgunner_laugh_vce"

Interestingly there’s a whole set of other trapper sounds that could have been used (not to mention others from elsewhere):

	events = {
		foley_drastic_long = "wwise/events/minions/play_shared_foley_traitor_guard_medium_drastic_long",
		foley_drastic_short = "wwise/events/minions/play_netgunner_drastic_short",
		footstep = "wwise/events/minions/play_netgunner_footsteps",
		footstep_land = "wwise/events/minions/play_minion_footsteps_boots_heavy_land",
		run_foley = "wwise/events/minions/play_shared_foley_traitor_guard_medium_run",
		run_foley_special = "wwise/events/minions/play_netgunner_run_foley_special",
		vce_breathing_running = "wwise/events/minions/play_traitor_guard_netgunner_breathing_running_vce",
		vce_death = "wwise/events/minions/play_traitor_guard_netgunner_death_quick_vce",
		vce_death_long = "wwise/events/minions/play_traitor_guard_netgunner_death_long_vce",
		vce_grunt = "wwise/events/minions/play_traitor_guard_netgunner_grunt_vce",
		vce_hurt = "wwise/events/minions/play_traitor_guard_netgunner_hurt_vce",
		vce_laugh = "wwise/events/minions/play_traitor_guard_netgunner_laugh_vce",
		vce_stop = "wwise/events/minions/stop_all_traitor_netgunner",
	},

But the cackle was chosen.

Right I know how it works

Still, I think it’s both an extremely good bandaid to the audio issues, and a good gameplay improvement overall

There were “band-aid” options in the same file for the “issues” that may or may not occur, hel in the same table, this is a super solider serum injection; try some of the other sounds and see.

Forumpro, thats a new one. Any other words you’d like to make up to cope with facts you disagree with? And anything you disagree with is clearly CLEARLY ‘wrong’. Next you’ll be saying the sound cues for hordes are unreliable.

How is the trapper a pivotal design point of punishment vs reward? You people will say anything.

Its a game. Trappers trap. They make a sound to tell you theyre gonan trap. You can dodge the trap. Its NOWHERE AS COMPLICATED as you’re both making out. Stop pretending.
