Trapper nets through geometry

Trapper nets have an extremely small collision point but the actual net hitbox itself is much larger than it, leading to scenarios where trappers can net players through very tight geometry where the trapper is barely or not even visible as it nets the player. And I ran into a particularly nasty sightline where trappers can shoot at players nearly risk-free at the Relay Station mid-event.
This is a general issue though that’s been reported since before the game even launched. The trapper net can no longer ignore certain terrain like airtight fences or stairs since, but it can still go through really tight gaps.

This has been shared since day 1. They will never fix it. They don’t even want to fix non working talent nodes, you think they will rework their physics?

This was “acknowledged” back in 1.0… I think I alone have 3 “acknowledged” posts on this subject. Gunners targeting through walls is another.

It could be argued that in your vid clips, there’s a sliver where the big net can squeeze through, if being pedantic. But I’ve had them shoot through giant gun and BB blocking obstacles and at right angles around corners.

They would NOT have to re-work the physics to fix this. All they would have to do is increase the size of the projectile for the fired net to a reasonable size so that it would collide with walls and other surfaces instead of going through.

Looking at the source code, it appears that the net is treated a particle (perhaps “0” size?). Which means if the trapper has line-of-sight on the player to start the shot, the net will just go through any surface on it’s path.

You can actually see the net go through floors and other objects, so this is probably an accurate description of how it works.

So, basically, if the trapper has line-of-sight to target you and you are in-range, the net will go through anything in it’s path and will trap you if you don’t pass the dodge-check.

would love to see this fixed its been a problem since the game launched. sometimes you literally cant avoid it if you cant dodge for example jumping down a level or being shot by a sniper and knocked back the trapper net will track you through materials or at an impossible angle. I dont mind it going through enemies, maybe though it should get weaker and lose speed as it travels through multiple enemies. any fix would be greatly appreciated

I just dodged around a corner and got netted through the wall. Definitely not fixed. Exacerbated by missing/insufficient sound cues too.

Yep. Trapper has line of sight on teammate. Fires net with zero size at teammate. Net goes through everything and traps you instead because they dodged and passed the dodge check, but you didn’t.

This would be so easy for them to fix. They just won’t do it.

In the mean time, get in the habit of always dodge sliding whenever you hear a net firing off.
