You chubby evil oversized devious tunas, you lot cant just Nerf the Javelins slegehammer-style only to then drop a very good looking skin(mostly glow i know, but it fits so well) for them via the winter gifts! Its entirely too wicked! Outrageous! Dastardly!
You underwater-native rapscallions you!
…
I will not overlook this! I demand a buff equivalent to an extra 10% power vs armor! At the very least!
Lol i HATED javs. Honestly if i sawan elf using them i usually just left on the spot even if i was hosting. They are less of a nightmare to play alongside now.
it has the highest stagger, and infinite ammo and you want it have better breakpoints than longbow? nah maybe come to terms that you actually have to choose between what you want and not get everything.
“range” like that ever mattered in V2.
I still use jav on my waystalker piercing shot build, so i can stagger CW and then finish them with a headshot with piercing shot while they are in the stagger animation. In busy situations this is very handy. Also i use jav on sister dual sword build the infinite ammo really helps out and the stagger gives you some safetiness.
Well javs are bigger pieces of wood - they should be slower and lower range than an arrow. People invented bows for a reason - they’re just superior weapons to throwing stuff at the enemy.
Stagger aside, why is it that Javelins, the bigger and heavier projectile, does significantly less armor damage than the elf bow if we are gona be real about it? Is keri just not very good at it?
from times when javalins where a thing we know that their main use is to inflict light injury and get stuck in shields and other inconvienient spots, unlike in movies and videogames a javelin that is stuck in your shield could be extremly anoying to remove or fight with.
romans/hoplites/phonesians who were considered among the more heavily armed infantry still had good amounts of lighly covered or freely showing skin
they could penetrate mail quite easily tho if you had padding+mail it already is most likely not a lethal penetration and you can forget all about plate it won’t get through
A powerful warbow (atleast 100lbs more like 120~160) will go through mail and padding everytime and produce lethal penetrations, even thinly amored or badly treated/untreated amorplates could sometimes dent/blow rivets and even rip some.
video games portrait archery often as a “dexterity” skill, but in reality you need alot of strenght to draw a proper bow and do continue to do so for a while,
and bows are exeptionally good in storing and imparting energy (much better than crossbows or throwing relatively speaking ofc)
Because penetration hinges a fair lot on kinetic energy yah, so Kruber´s big slow but powerful bow working makes sense. But then, why does Keri´s relatively lighter and faster bow also work so well then? And why does her thrown Javelins still not cause much damage if impacting a supposedly lightly or even unarmored head?
As for crossbows vs bows, the former is as far as i know, typically a lot harder hitting if well made since it can utilize mechanical leverage much more easily. At best when paired with bodkins a bolt could even pierce most types of plate armor, a feat bows normally could not except the english/equivalent ones at very close range. Big downside came in being harder(expensive) to make, maintain and reload.
Also, worse range compared to big longbow, makes a difference on battlefields.
well there were alot of myths in your text, that have been thrown around for three decades now sadly most people fall prey to.
its a misconception that crossbows are harder hitting, it comes from the higher messured poundage of crossbows and the false connection made that that means harder hitting projectiles.
in truth the steelbow of any crossbow is far less flexible and that comes with two downsides, one you need much higher drawweight to impart energy into it and two it transfers much less of it back into the projectile when released. the result is a need of a mechanical winch.
there are very few accounts that mention any noticeable difference in performance, and modern tests mostly represent that, creating similar joules on impact with crossbows having a slight edge in force imparted but both bows and xbows having outliers that go above the average of the other.
so why were crossbows used? little training required, much less obstructive in defensive positions, and bolts couldn’t be shot back at you if the enemy had no crossbows themselfs.
next misconception the english longbow, sadly not the mystical wonder weapon as it seems many bows both much more compact comboundbows could archieve similar drawweights making them more advanced.
so why where the english archers feared? culture
the english had a big culture on archery, with boys required to start early and continuous training, through adulthood, resulting in most peasant levy’s to be skillfull archers, so in times of war they could field as many as they could/want to equip
skillful archers are are luxury in times of war not many could afford.
and lastly, piercing amor i keep it short. did it happen: yes,
we even have many accounts and multiple accounts in the same battles, but was it the norm? (both generally and for specific weapons like crossbows) No, people didn’t wear amor for fashion, its an arms race, you wore as much armor you needed or could afford and armor plates on vital parts were as thick as need beto fend of common threats, non vital areas or weakspots are the spots where you wagered to get away with less because it was worth the risk to remain un-encumbered
well what counts is her drawweight, maybe the elven enchanted wood for that bow is extra robust and flexible so it can produce a comparable drawweight than a human warbow while being so flimsy? tbf i don’t really know how elves work in warhammer fantasy are they even physicly stronger than humans? i at least thought so
You guys need to get a room. And binge-watch Todd’s Workshop in it
As for this point:
Don’t forget that this energy depends on mass linearly, but on velocity squared.
Also penetration seem to be more dependent on pressure rather than energy itself, which brings in a whole topic of terminal ballistics that simply cannot be boiled down to anything elementary. There are books written on the subject, I can recommend two that I’ve read myself if you’re curious.
The best is when elfs just blatantly ff you because you’re in their javs ways. I sometimes would play elf just to save others from not seeing a jav in their back!
I always thought the free ammo was the main issue, not its power. All I wanted to see was the requirement for them to go pick up their jav they threw, instead of unlimited ammo.
Doesnt this create issue´s when dealing with distant or otherwise inaccessible specials? Either you throw it and you lose it, or you do not and the target goes free
