it was the devs
You mean in your opinion they aren’t pretty. Beauty is all in the eye of the beholder. Physical attraction is all defined in our DNA as a trick to get people to make babies. The rest is done through programming with enculturation. I know it’s hard to believe, but women actually have body hair.
nice virtue signaling BS here xD Cope more plz
I think my character is fairly handsome… (profile pic).
To each their own.
Regarding the women in Darktide I have to disagree about every face being unattractive.
Put some everyday makeup on some of the faces (I use the kohl-eyeliner on my character) and the faces would look totally different.
On the other hand, why would you go into battle with makeup on?
What I can agree on is that FatShark went too much for the “gruff/battlehardened” face types and voice acting (thank god for my male Psyker’s Savant voice) both for females AND for males.
The scars and some of the face paints are awesome, but every character of course doesn’t have to look like they got stuck in a chainsaw just because “hurrdurr it’s WH40k and WH40k is griiiiiiimdaaaaark”.
Ok peoples, this thread is a great opportunity to explain the difference between truth and reality. Our brains control how we perceive the information we are exposed too. The way that you perceive and interpret the same information may not be the same as someone else. One of the easiest examples is using color, but the same logic can be applied to attraction. People actually see colors differently. As one of the limitations of language, there is no way to explain to someone what a color actually looks like in truth. We can say blue is the color of the sky on a clear day, but because people actually perceive what this color looks like differently, this is only a way for us to find a common ground. For one person the color blue could look like the color green to another person. Even when this is the case, the person that perceives the color blue as another person perceives the color green, they will still be talking about the color blue because we have categorized the color blue as what the sky looks like on a clear day.
Because people perceive things like this differently, that means in TRUTH, this is not actually what it looks like. For the person observing something, it is true for them, but this is what makes their own personal reality.
Objective beauty exists. Shocking, I know. Glad you’re using genetics as argument here, that means we’re on the same page-- because certain features will almost always be regarded as beautiful due to genetic programming; humans are animals too, and certain traits are innately more attractive than others.
Regardless, the fact remains that all but 1 are ugly faces that went through a shredder before they got on the ship, and the one remaining face is only the least ugly because the shredder broke from all the abuse beforehand halfway through.
Look at depictions of women in official 40K artwork-- you’ll see that the majority of their faces are in fact beautiful. There is absolutely zero reason to intentionally make them ugly as sin.
He’s an ugly bastard.
This topic is troll bait for both sides of the argument. First rule for hunting trolls is have an opinionated topic next, is let it fester for a few days then feed it. Be it Herrscher or Lunch Lady Louis, the only remedy that will satiate the bean counters to invest resources into this will be to add MTX face and hair options to the whale store. At this point…why not? Not like they are putting effort into adding the rest of the content.
Just fyi.
You are coming out strong with the “Let me teach you simpletons something”. If you want to teach people it’s not a good idea to start out being condescending. Doesn’t matter if it’s intended or not.
Also, It’s not a limitation of language as to why we can’t explain how color looks like.
In fact, we DO know what color looks like in TRUTH since it’s all about measurable light frequencies bouncing off of surfaces. That will always be the same no matter who perceives it, the result of that perception can however be different to each and everyone of us. And why we can’t convey that is because we can’t (yet) perceive things from another person view. Which isn’t a limitation on language, but limitation of technology and lack of fully understanding how the brain works.
At some point when we can recreate or simulate brains to a 100% and can experience things from other peoples perspectives I’m quite confident our language is enough to explain the differences.
To put it in the simplest of terms. I have 2 bags of marbles, one with 1 set of marbles and 1 with another set of marbles. I can’t explain the difference between these marbles, not because of language, but because I don’t know both of it’s contents (perspectives). When we can finally open these up and see, we can probably talk plenty about it.
In the end the color difference thing is more of philosophical thought experiment that’s just fun to think about. In practicality it has little value. Not even sure how it’s on-topic unless you want to extrapolate this to shapes and physical forms, but then I’d like to hear that argument instead since that becomes an entirely different beast.
Exactly, they are just realistically good looking.
Hey Kumori, I’m sorry you perceived me as being condescending. It was not my intention!
Wonder if they’re going to try and sell masks.
Preferably sacks over the head
What an ableist misogynistic thing to say, how dare you talk down to our special band of “the hills have eyes” future females.
Ogryn needs the bowl cut bro what you doing to him with that mohawk
I know right? Isn’t that crazy? Reminds me of this poll where, shockingly enough, people overwhelmingly chose the one single attractive female face over the others:
https://www.reddit.com/r/DarkTide/comments/zu85ih/character_faces_poll_results_from_reddit_fatshark/
Not sure 70-80 votes is statistically representative of the whole community…
- just refer to that post from Larian about the player choices, for Baldur’s Gate 3, I believe.
Many people will enjoy the average joe/jane (which is fine - to each their own).
So based on some polls we should have 90% variants of bland* average joes/janes…
*personal opinion
Also that poll unfortunately does not use the faces with the racial types/ethnicities they offer.
Facial features/skin colors diversity matter too.
I’m glad I got the chance to pick that 1% sample from the population for my psyker ^^
so hideous it’s unplayable /s
Your post baffles me. Not just from a literary point, but also from the implications you drew from my text - which is to say, I think you’ve missed the point. The main subject being discussed is precisely that humans subconsciously orbit themselves towards attractive people. As ArkBlanc put it eloquently: it’s genetic programming. It’s why female twitch streamers such as Amouranth are so successful. It’s why pieces of entertainment that appeal to the carnal drive are successful; because it fulfills those innate, human, desires.
So let’s circle back. Arkblanc made an astute observation about this natural ‘phenomenon’ present in human nature; to which I agreed with and replied with a supporting poll from the Darktide community that proves that very point - reason being that it’s related to the discussion of the game. Now you can huff and puff that it’s not “representative” of the whole community; however it does very much support the notion that humans like provocative things, crazy, huh?
I don’t understand why people are so vocal against “beatiful” faces.
More choice is better than less one.
Maybe cuz locking the thread doesn’t address the common complaint? People want more customization options from the game that touted it’s character creator as being so very integral to the immersive experience.
