The Future of Vermintide 2

And what exactly do you mean by fresh blood? Just curious. I love the Ubersreik five and all, but I have to wonder if we could convince FS take character creation even further, and give us some truly exotic fellows, either for VT2 or something entirely new. For example, how would you like to play as an ogre mercenary or vampire corsair, who could actually heal themselves by eating whatever unfortunate ratman (or other fellow) that happens to get in the way?

I think she meant fresh content, not necessarily new character

I know. Just tossing out an idea here, to see what people think.

I think an ogre or even a vampire (We’ve already got a Necromancer so why the hell not?) could be interesting but I think that would be for a new tide game set in the Warhammer universe and not Vermintide.

In Vermintide we play as the Ü5. End of story.

I would love character creation with custom appearence, classes etc. as there are so many possibilities when drawing from the lore of the miniature game, RPGs and video game adaptions of the setting for classes and stuff to play as or fight against.

But that would be in the next fantasy tide game.

If we get another tide game in the warhammer fantasy world, we won’t be getting self-made expendable characters. The reason? Because we already have someone the devs have created, even it was only as a side character for VT2: Hedda Gorekson, Bardin’s daughter. Also another possible character could be the community created Pus-fume, but then he would be more of anti-hero, and would need other such fellows to match. Can tell you one thing for sure though. If they make another Tide game for the Warhammer fantasy place, it will be centered around one of two places: Sartossa, or one of the Colonies of Men on the Coast of Lustria. Why their? Because it will expand the range of foes we could come across astronomically. Who’s ready to raid a Tomb Kings Treasury, or loot a lizardman temple?

That’s not really a reason, and I’m saying that as someone that dearly wish to see a game set around Count Noctilus and having Hedda as a playable character.

As much as I’d prefer having set character (at the cost of not being able to stack classes/careers…, they could do a whole separate cast or a tide that isn’t attached to the Vt1/2 games.

That’s not really understanding how GW operate, and it doesn’t really work lorewise either.

If they do a new tide separate from the Vt games, there are many conflict and locations they could center on, not just those 2.

  • Any place in Lustria (no need to go to the human colonies), either deep jungle or even the Pirate Coast
  • Cathay, maybe around the ET against tide of Tzeentchian cultist
  • Badlands, against Greenskins

You catch the drift, there are as many places, time and conflict that could honestly work as basis for a Tide game.

Not forgetting the whole Old World where you’re having the 2nd most successful Everchosen who invaded Kislev and the Empire.

Good point. But the thing that needs to be figured out is some new mechanics, so that if we get another tide game, it’s not just a copy and paste of a previous game. Any ideas? I only got a few, and they are adding some sort of fear mechanic so that enemies will actually panic and run away if they are losing badly, grabbing mechanics that our “heroes” could use on enemies to kill them in some way maybe even eat them if you are an ogre or vampire., or to have rideable creatures/vehicles.

The U5 are icon to this game, getting rid of them in favour of the style set by Darktide would be foolish in the extreme. Adding in extra playable characters is no mean feat. Voice acting, balance, weapons and talents being different would all be big challenges. What is a dwarf female going to wield differently from Bardin? Anything else seems to fit as a new career rather than new character.

As for mechanics, I’d rather see something that has the rule of cool. Bardin Slayer can land on top of a boss and clobber it on the head like the kill sequence from Dawn of War where the Force Commander beats the hell out of the Bloodthirster. Kill sequences would be awesome. There’s a hint of how cool things could get with the animations when each character throws torches into the lights on Trail of Treachery. Just … cool stuff.

Well, I disagree that pre-selected characters are necessary or unavoidable in a fantasy game.

In the Vermintide series we’ve got the Ü5, no argument from me about it. So if we get Vermintide 3 or possibly some other game in the End Times period then I expect us to fight as the Ü5.

But if we get, for example, Greentide, set in the The Old World (newest edition of the miniature game and an rpg as well) then I would think we might have the oppertunity for characters coming from custom character creation).

Kill sequences might be cool in theory but I don’t know how well they would work in practice. Given the tempo and need to act fast in the game I think that getting a character stuck in a kill sequence for some seconds in the middle of a fight might feel more frustrating than cool once you’ve seen this kill sequence a dozen times or so.

Kill sequences : i agree somewhat in that for those of us who are longbeards when Dawn of War was released (2004) the kill sequences were raved about and beloved by the vast majority of players BUT high level got quite frustrating when your Avatar of Khaine was gamboling around killing a bloodthirster when it could’ve been clobbering something else or soaking up damage isntead of your delicate expensive elite squads, but this was really high tier stuff - like equivalent of cata+ mod play, actually very few people at this rarified tier..

But if nothing else on this whole forum is read by the devs then PLAYER MADE CUSTOM DEEDS TO HOST IN A LOBBY WITH ALL OF THE MODIFIERS AND PEOPLE CAN CHOOSE TO QP INTO DEEDS AND ADDITIONAL EXTRA COOL STUFF MUST BE MADE OR SOMEONE WILL CALL DOWN EXTERMINTUS ON SWEDEN. Or something.

I have strong feelings about this.
