The current weapon customization sucks imo, so here's something i think would improve it

the customization system could be improved by letting us do 3 things specifically.

1 - allow us to choose where on our weapons we place our trinkets/charms.

we have no sling on our guns so we don’t need the sling mount, so i don’t see why we can’t put our Ammo Totem’s, Krillhawk Claw’s, and Moebian Steel Skull’s on the mounts instead.

2 - add 3 new “modification slots” to the guns.

not everybody dislikes iron sights on the guns, its true, but plenty of people would much rather have a different sight on their guns, like how the Agripinna MK I infantry autogun works great with the irons but it works even better with the Accatran MII variant and how flashlights are only really good when you’re playing a lights out mission (i’ve only seen 2 since after the beta and they were about a year apart and both in auric) and on really dark maps, but even then you can see the enemies just fine and you can just walk up to any object that you can’t see too well, thus making your characters flashlight shine on it.

what i’m trying to say is that there should be 3 slots that effect the chosen weapon in terms of how they actually function BEYOND the blessings and refinement, i feel like we should get the ability to put different sights and actives on our guns, like putting a bayonet on an autogun or the special ammo active on the revolver. yes, some guns wouldn’t get access to some actives or some sights but that would be fine. and yes, this would be powerful, so i thought of a way to balance it out.

3 - weapon mastery.

the basic idea of weapon mastery is to allow you to get more weapon skins, more trinkets, and unlock weapon modification, it would also get people to try our more weapons than just the ones that they’re used to using.

the basic idea of the system is as follows: grab a weapon, level it up by completing missions with it, keep doing that until you get notified that your weapon hit a milestone level, after that, go to hadron for your reward. the reward will be a trinket first, then a skin, and then at 15, you get modification, meaning she’ll modify it for you for a fee based off of the amount of modifications you’re putting on the gun, like putting a sight, a bayonet, and a bandoleer attachment on a Lazgun would cost 70K dockets, 3K plasteel, and 2K diamantine, while putting just a new sight on would be 20K dockets, 1K plasteel, and 500 diamantine.

Fun thoughts!

The lack of weapon skins in the reworked penance system we just got, along with the recent update to the UI for weapon appearance customization (changed to a vertical view that would easily allow more buttons/features), gives me hope that your 3rd point might be close to what we may see as part of the upcoming itemization rework!

I’m totally down to grind weapons up to 100%, unlocking new skins along the way.

I really hope they add the option to mount bayonets/torches/different sights on our weapons, but we don’t even know if it’s something thr devs are thinking about adding to the game or if they do not care at all about this idea.

i really hope that they do add it because i don’t like the flashlights and i hate most of the sights but i LOVE the bayonet and the bash

Honestly this was such a kick in the teeth for me, and is still a bigger disappointment than some of the, shall we see more “interesting” penances. I think getting weapon skins for a specific family for doing certain tasks with them would’ve been a fun to way to encourage mixing up builds, but also wouldn’t “force” you to play a certain way: just have the weapon skins be tied to the penance itself and it’s all good. Ideally have 3 tiers and give 3 skins total, 1 per tier, for each family. But even 1 penance with 1 skin would be nice.

I guess there might be a problem were people would feel incentivized to play all weapons to move the penance bar forward, but imo that’s more of a problem with the penance bar. you could always make each weapon penance be worth 5 points so it’s not that impactful.

Hopefully the reason we didn’t get weapon penances was because of a weapon mastery system like was suggested here, but I am not holding out that much hope for that.
