i just really want to be able to customize my weapons without needing mods, and i don’t mean customize with skins and charms, i don’t want just more cosmetics, i want to actually put an actually useful active ability on my weapon and a new sight! the weapons being fully customizable would make it so that devs don’t need to add more in the near future, they just need to focus on updates for missions and penances until people start asking for more weapons again, they might even be able to add new actives and call it secrets of the machine-god part 3 and just have it be part of the crafting update, i don’t karkin know, i just want weapon mastery and weapon actives to be related so that we can actually fully customize our weapons to be how we want them down to the finest detail.
before anybody says “the lore says you can’t do that, only a tech-priest can!” i’m going to say this, the guard aren’t allowed to modify their weapon to do things like fire bolter rounds from a revolver, they aren’t allowed to put a holster in their stock to hide a stub pistol of some kind, and they aren’t allowed to program their Data-slates to play DOOM 1993, that would be tech-heresy. however, they ARE allowed to fix bayonets, change sights, and just generally put attachments on their weapons so that they fit what they need at that moment, like changing the luman for the bayonet or the grenade launcher for the bipod. as long as it doesn’t alter the weapon itself, it fits within the lore.
The only thing they mentioned is an itemization update. They haven’t mentioned anything about attaching scopes to weapons ETC. It is obvious at this point they are very comfortable letting modders do all of their QoL work and its actually hilarious people still give them a pass on these pitiful “content” patches lol.
It’s a first big step in the right direction. I expect to be able to further personalize my weapons than just skins and trinkets in the future, but right now I just want something functional in the first place.
i do not care, they’ve already made good strides toward weapon customization that DOESN’T suck, so why would they suddenly stop walking to it on the path to perfect weapons?
yeah, nobody could argue that the upcoming update is a bad thing, it’s gonna be great. but i would just like to say that yes, the argument for not adding attachments is in fact something that could be made just as well as the argument in favor of attachments, however, i am not trying to say “we should be allowed to put new barrels and stocks on our guns” or anything as bit as that, i’m just saying that it would allow people to better customize a weapon to fit their playstyle without needing to do anything against the ToS for the game.
May be a bit obvious but still: I just wanna point out that they can’t do this as willy-nilly as the mods. Weapon attachments (ie. specials) impact the game’s balance, however little.
But they have obviously paid attention to what the community likes, adding more and more stuff like QoL we only had with mods before, the itemization patch ofc, the new map etc. So I do think there’s definitely a chance for something like this some time in the future when the more pressing itemization concerns are out of the way.
honestly, thats the timeframe i’m asking for, i don’t want it right now right after the update drops, i want it to be the next one or some time within this series of updates (the machine god saga as i call it) because it would be in the realm of what we’re getting now and it would make the player base much more happy along with how it would make the game feel much more fleshed out than it is now and than it will be when the next update comes out and it will also artificially add more weapons by technicality as if you look at the weapons we have now and think of the possible attachments even out of the one that we already have, we’ll have much more than just the simple auto-guns and laz-pistols, we’ll have actual personalized weapons that we enjoy more than before, extending the life span of the game by at least a few months per few players.
I agree with you, this is something we can have and enjoy perhaps FS includes it into Darktide by the final quarter of 2024 if not sometime during 2025
Its best to tag StrawHat so that we can have these subjects brought up to the FS Staff to see if they can develop these ideas into the game
I do want to see at least the ability for sights and scopes to be implemented in a customization
I assume its a similar state of development to the class overhaul systems…mostly working on the backend but lacking that final level of polish and finish like much of the actual game. Maybe they’re planning on using it to beef up another update. Gotta leave gas in the tank.
It would be one of the biggest wastes in gaming to me if this function was never made official.
I seen this happen with Mechwarrior 5: Mercenaries where Mods made by gamers sometimes became developed DLC (as in the devs took the ideas and adapted them to what they felt “fit the gameplay”)-- if FS takes notes that at least something that is featured in mods like adding a sight or scope is a minimal yet effective feature for players to be happy with, especially for their playstyle and ability (as well as still fitting lore-friendly matters), it does help elevate the QoL overall
I also think of it as the matter that mods are neato and all, yet if features are in-game (that fit to the gameplay and lore), it takes the load off of the issue of gameplay not having to require those certain mods
i don’t think that the first @ actually got through because it was an edited @ and not an @ that was put in without any edit so i’ll have to @ them in this reply instead, just in case. @FatsharkStrawHat sorry for the ping Straw-King.
I think they want the attachments to have some gameplay function beyond visual flair (that isn’t even visible all the time eg stocks). Usually in video games with attachment systems they moderately fluff numbers around to reflect the totally realistic mechanic of a foregrip changing a weapon. This is why we have Assault Weapon legislation after all…
that’s true, not to mention the fact that sometimes its JUST cosmetic, or at least may as well be with how little they actually help (flashlight on most maps). once FS adds this (or rather, IF they add this) i’ll be all over it and i won’t stop exploring the options i have until i run out.
