This is a topic my best friend and I talk about a lot actually. In VT2 we had no issue dropping money on cosmetics to support the game, because you got so much of it for free anyway. You could look “cool” with default weapon/armor skins through achievements.
In DT I look like a murder hobo unless I visit the cash shop lol. I really do pray they address the crafting though. There’s a really great game in there struggling to get out.
Well, that’s easy. All they had to do was to make cosmetics as progression like DRG.
But oh no, that would not work with FOMO premium currency scam store!
They could easy make majority of store cosmetics as progression for challenges during free “Seasons” and holiday events like DRG does and only from time to time release some really cool paid cosmetics packs.
I should hope that since Fatshark believes they have diablo-esque loot that they would be cognizant of the utter disaster that was d3’s RMAH and not want to repeat that fiasco.
But as the loading screens remind us; hope is the first step on the road to disappointment.
The only times randomized loot ‘works’ is when you get so darn much of it that you always have something new and fresh to try, aka the Borderlands approach. If a Damnation run at Level 30 consistently dropped 5-10 weapons on you, all above the 360 base with tier 4 blessings and perks guaranteed, people would stop complaining about the ‘crafting’ system beyond the few who oppose RNG as a matter of principle.
I’m still here. I still didn’t buy the game. And I am still here yet again hoping they break them goddamn locks.
#breakthelocks
P.S. I know you’re reading these comments FATSHARKS and your CMs have to report these sorts of things to you (you in the higher ups) so Just Break them. C’mon you know you wanna.
After testing this, in a fit of delirium I did spend a significant amount of resources trying to get a better roll than this with the same blessings but it didn’t happen, which was to be expected.
And I do want to say that I’ve had this be a problem in game, even if they have 8 health left. This is my melee vet build, and it makes clearing shotgunner hordes more time consuming and dangerous.
At times like these old quote from AGP comes to mind:
“During the hike out, the question of what to do about a certain problematic tech-priest had been raised, and the other priest had been tapped for some expert advice in dealing with his die-hard orthodox counterpart. This wasn’t intentional, we just forgot he was in Tink’s pack and could totally hear us. In any case, he cheerfully suggested turning our cogboy off and on again. With our lasguns. Admittedly the “on again” part would be tricky, but he thought it was still worth a shot. We decided we liked the Torso-priest.”
(…)
“As the tech-priest’s datafeeds were ripped from their sockets and he was dragged kicking and screaming out the broken window, he reflected on the wisdom of antagonizing a bunch of people who viewed violence as more of a first resort. The last thing Thomas heard, aside from all the las and plasma fire, was a muffled mechanical voice calling “dibs” on his limbs. He hoped it was the Omnissiah.”
This. I wanted an inventory system that is SHARED, not just materials. Weapons. Yeah, sure lock my gear behind a level 30 wall, that’s fine. As long as I can transfer equipment from one to another, that’d be fine.
I keep doing this for a knife. I can’t get any blessings other than specific R3 blessings on any new rolls (the only things I manage to roll are non-weakspot bleed and the same t1 critical bleed stack over and over).
Yeah, I’m jealous. Particularly since at least one blessing managed to be a t4 on a 370+ weapon… Every single 370+ piece of gear I’ve gotten has ended up with at most 1 t3 blessing on them, paired with another ranging between t1-2… sick of the rolls I’m ending up with on characters I made in Beta.
Characters made post-beta or have spent significantly less time playing seem to end up with better rolls. Yes, this is anecdotal, but I can’t help but see the connection every time I get screwed.
This is so idiotic design. Same for me, my Zealot has great revolver and I can’t give it to my Vet. My vet has great autogun, can’t give it to Zealot. Wtf? What absolute base ape designed that?
Well reporting back from a game who’s progression doesn’t drive me up the wall.
Got the Mortia XXX, it’s a beastly weapon that absolutely slaps the heck out of larger bugs but is balanced by bad stability on the move, low mag count and low ammo count. It’s probably one of the best support weapons in the game but I’m likely going to only run it mostly with friends on designated builds.
I got the thing, i played with it, im happy with it and i don’t need to worry about rolling a second one or rebuilding it from scratch. Reportedly the game is getting a wipe but I’m already set on what things i want to prioritize working towards.
Reflecting on it i really gotta wonder, why does every weapon need a stupid stat bar system?
I guess having random blessings and modifiers isn’t enough so a weapon needs to have worse stats randomly because reasons i guess. VT2 didn’t have this and was arguably better off for it. Really it’s a system designed around driving false engagement by designing a problem but forgetting to provide a solution.
SST:E really could use some better sidearms for specialized primaries like the sniper & nade launcher. Some sort of PDW that can do a bit more than severely inconvenience a warrior or two per mag.
The borderlands approach is also to have a completely useless UI to compare gear. Comparing trash is just not fun. Games like Diablo and Borderlands are fun despite the loot system, not because of it. At least Diablo IV is reasonably quick with getting rid of the trash.
I don’t think you have the right to say what makes anyone look stupid considering you threw a hissy fit about not being able to roll a lower tier weapon based on some masochism kink but i guess to each their own about what people consider stupid.
Agree, i would say the bigger case was the fun weapons with unique abilities. Most of the random +damage stuff got thrown out and a lot of what i kept was unique weapons with fun modifiers like bouncing bullets or guns that caused crazy effects when enemies were killed.
I wouldn’t say the writing was Shakespeare but 1, 2, and Pre-Sequel had some fun moments and they did an ok job making the game world fun to explore. Agree that the UI was ass though, I personally blame a console generation for the UI being designed with big rectangle displays and scrolling with a controller stick rather than being able to click, drag, and easily sort.
Then again even Borderlands gave you the carrot eventually and didn’t just keep hitting you with the dam stick.
