A lot of things have been acknowledged in some way and that’s great but the expression “credit where credit is due” goes both ways. Acknowledging something and fixing something are different things. I’m obviously very happy to see our grievances being directly acknowledged by someone with “Fatshark” in their name in a personable manner but we shouldn’t celebrate too much until we see that these things are actually fixed. Knowing what large organisations are like, whether we’re talking about Fatshark or just in general, bringing up legitimate problems and offering solutions to those with the power to fix them doesn’t always mean they care enough to act on your suggestions.
I trust Strawhats intentions are completely in the right place, but let’s also remember that whoever got us to this situation in the first place is not her and is probably still in a position to make the same mistakes again.
I’m optimistic for the first time in a long time, but I’m not counting my chickens until the changes are in the game and have fixed whatever issue they relate to.
I think the biggest issue was that we weren’t getting interaction of any kind.
I wouldn’t expect the speed of fixes to increase by much, but as long as there is more back and forth like this, then the wait for these fixes won’t feel as awful.
Ironically, radio silence is the worst player retention mechanic they implemented, not the shop.
Don’t get me wrong, I’m happy with the direction things are going in and the current situation is definitely leagues better than what it was. I’m just trying to temper expectations a little. In true Dawi spirit, I would not call a grudge settled until it’s settled is all.
One thing I’m surprised to see missing from the Book of Grudges is the infinite loading screen bug which can happen practically everywhere a loading screen is capable of triggering. There was a patch months back which claimed to fix the bug but it’s still as present as ever. I’ll submit a bug report for it when I can find the time.
I am a bit confused. So, FS telling us something that turns out to be false is bad. FS not communicating often is also bad. But wouldn’t an increase in the latter result in more of the former? I.E. the more they communicate, the more they lie (Or are made liars with time, same thing).
Is there a preferred way to communicate without falling into this liar’s trap, if the people doing the communication think they’re telling the truth? Just not talk about anything they’re working on in case it falls through? Couch the language in vague/noncommittal terms or “Weasel Words” as me mum calls 'em (“We ‘might’ do this”)? Or is the lack of communication considered a worse grudge than being made a liar?
This ain’t a gotcha I really don’t know the best approach here.
I think it depends on the timing. If they let us know beforehand the timing of something has changed, then it’s decent communication. If we find out something has changed but there wasn’t any communication about it then the prior comms would have been a lie or misleading. A lack of communication at all isn’t really a lie, but it’s still bad optics as it lets speculation get out of hand and fester.
StrawHat has done a pretty good job recently by figuring out and telling people that they’d given incorrect information.
Basically, you use more communication to fix the communication.
Sometimes it makes you look stupid (see: whatever the heck was going on with that ‘vox intercept’ about Mechanicus weapons where Strawhat had to tell people the teaser talking about new weapons wasn’t actually about new weapons), but usually the management of expectations keeps people happy.
If Fatshark had learned that beforehand, we wouldn’t have issues like everyone expecting weapon customization from press releases, or expecting a story by Dan Abnett to ship with the game, or Solo mode, or 100 Aquila packs being available for purchase.
Generally speaking, it’s easy to not lie. It just requires you to inform people when things change.
If the thing changes and it’s no longer true, then you should tell people such a thing as soon as you can - otherwise, they have reason to believe that you’re lying.
Here’s a grudge for you: it’s been nearly two years since the game was released, and the Loner Psykers are still acting like Cheeto-dusted Reddit tourists rather than people who actually grew up in the culture of a hyper-militarized interstellar theocracy and had God Himself imprint on their souls to help guard against the ever-present danger of daemonic possession. Totally immersion-breaking, that is (as is the Loners’ tendency to snark about things that they would realistically have no knowledge of, like the “Imperial Truth”).
Their fondness for griping about the state of the Imperium also presents a curious paradox: if the Imperium is as uniformically horrible as they like to complain it is, then they wouldn’t know to complain, because they’d have no comprehension of anything better, yet if the Imperium is not as completely dreary and dreadful as they like to present it, then much of their grousing (such as when they lash out at the Savant Psykers for taking pride in the skills of Atoma’s workers) just makes them come off as unreasoning assholes.
In short, they talk like an exaggerated version of Sarah from Labyrinth before she actually did some growing up and became a more mature, responsible young woman, and it’s more than a little silly in this setting:
Braced Autogun blessing pool is the dull for no reason.
I suggest that the developers do an easy but very impactful and fun-enducing change to Braced Autogun and add Blaze-Away, Cavalcade, Run ‘n’ Gun, Overwhelming Fire and Inspiring Barrage to their Blessing list.
This will increase the build variety with the weapon immensely and make it more fun, also I wager that it is in limited use in-game, and this could be done to address it.
If this is confirmation of it being worked on then that’s great news. You have about three days to finish and implement your changes before Space Marine 2 whisks me away for an indefinite period of time. No pressure
The 40k universe is enormous, and cultural gulfs and social variation within a single hive of tens of billions on a single world are likely to be larger than the entirety of those found on modern earth. The Imperium is horrible, but it is far from uniform. Even today, people in monstrous regimes and invasive totalitarian governments who have never experienced anything different can see and identify the social and institutional rot and dream of different ways, or who may have limited direct interaction with the regime. The Imperium requires insanely huge security forces of all types for a reason, and with the latest lore and the Psychic Awakening there’s a ton of new Psykers around that are causing all sorts of crazy shenanigans, overturning the old Psyker order before the 13th Black Crusade.
Likewise, the Psykers, like all rejects, start the story as prisoners under sentence of death, they’ve already gotten in trouble, and are used as cannon fodder in an Inquisitor’s private army, in much the same way Russian prisoners were used by Wagner in Bakhmut. When you’ve already been arrested judged and condemned, and are being sent out on suicide missions until you eventually just don’t come back, it’s not like a sassy mouth while off the ship is going to get you in much more trouble.
