The Book of Grudges: Because Fatshark Won't Listen

Funny you say that cause Darktide’s suffering from a similar issue where despite years of updates and events we’re still stuck with just 5 possible modifiers unless there’s an active event (and only 2/5 of those modifiers are “good”). Orthus Offensive straight up doesn’t exist on the normal mission board and it’s the least played level in the game cause of it. Besides, if we had the power to choose this issue would be significantly alleviated, including the power to have truly random level selection instead of the current QP or VT2 QP as it is.

Sure we technically have the campaign level selection but the issue with those is that they have scripted spawns in them, they’re static, incredibly easy and cannot be enjoyed together with other modifiers. I can’t really play them in multiplayer on auric (the highest difficulty) despite it being a co-op game cuz me & friends are at risk of falling asleep otherwise.

Playing an underpowered character on boring difficulties for 5ish hours especially if you’ve done it before with other characters isn’t enjoyable.

regardless of how you may value your own time, a large issue lies in that we are already familiar with the game. so we speedrun through missions.
you know what that does to the new player experience? every mission they play a guy rushes to the elevator and spams “come here” ping while they struggle and die?
i don’t blame those players. they just want it to be over with. but the new players don’t know that, they just think the game is trash

it can’t be overstated how bad the leveling dynamic is currently. for everyone involved really. if something is bad for everyone involved they should rework it. doesn’t matter if it’s “just 4 hours” for you.

“you think you do but you don’t”

Man, that brings back memories of people arguing that having a decent itemisation and crafting system would kill the game.

This is incredible work. I would like for them to adress the shop rotation and FOMO abuse, it’s really hard for me to support a developer that does this.

It is better to have a full catalogue of skins and then add new skins, not recolors, to make people buy them. The current model is plain greediness, they whine about keeping the game alive but they want that with the minimum possible of development investment. It doesn’t work like that, if this wasn’t warhammer I wouldn’t have ever touched it.

It may just be a small thing, but there are also new players who like to check out the maps. It happened to me three or four times while leveling up the Toaster. At Chasm Station HL-16-11, two of us kept stopping to look around. You can’t really blame them, the maps (the few we have…) look pretty awesome.

So your problem is communication. I can get behind that. i think its a European thing. to be vague.

Do you though? (referring to your game hours insinuating that vermintide has this customization) cause vermintide you cannot create you own levels, you need to have deeds which are super random, you cannot add those modifiers on your levels anywhere in vermintide, you basically choose your level and difficulty, thats it. unless this has been changed since last year.

I get your complaint, and I can get behind it. perhaps not removing it outright, but slapping a +100% XP boost behind it would be very helpful.

I see the logic, it should definitely not be this imposing on new players.

To be honest, the current itemization kind of sucks. Items cannot be used as reards, Malek items are worthless when you can just craft your own but better, it serves no purpose, you only play to get through a level and collect materials. I get that grinding can be annoying - but if done correctly it can be a really good carrot for you to be incentivized to play it.

For heaven’s sake, please don’t steer the conversation in that direction—it’ll only backfire. The worst-case scenario is that the thread gets closed in the end, which would be one of the worst things that could happen to the forum.

Yeah totally. Tbh even if it was 50% xp bonus increase per existing levelled character then it would still function as expected.

Also new players with no existing l30 characters should be forced to play campaign maps whilst anyone with one should not be allowed. Like a crèche for newbies to avoid the rushing veterans.

Definitely ways to mitigate the woes for newbies and veterans alike.

It’s not fair they get lumped together and will not do anything positive to either players experience

If you think the itemisation as it is now sucks, the old one was worse in every imaginable way. The one we have now is serviceable, but it isn’t the satisfaction black hole the old system was.

I must admit when I upgraded to an OLED monitor I did a run on the foundry level with the lights out modifier and there was a moment on a bridge/overpass when I just kinda… froze and admired the golden glow of the molten metal in awe

Deeds can be infinite, you can choose your desired map and it allows for a slight spectrum of customization, same goes for twitch mode but has a much greater degree of customization. Me & friends sank many many of our hours into deeds & twitch mode which was a lot of fun and there’s still people frequently playing twitch mode today, more than 8 years after release.

Also modded realm exists, which grants you total freedom & control over how you can play. Modded realm, to this day, still has dedicated communities (plural) to play VT2 using the many mods available on it.

PS. In terms of difficulty, VT2’s 5 difficulties are also just better.

I agree that the old itemization sucked, but there should be a middle ground between having exactly what you want, and diablo-esque randomization where all items are totally random.

There needs to be a sort of rewards that makes playing a bit more rewarding. Like after I got my cosmetics on Havok, I straight up stopped.

Like all after game drops should be curios, so you actually get excited when you get a 430 curio drop with 17% thoughness eventhough it really doesnt change much. but it needs to feel like it matters. Now at most the drops are used for early leveling and then being sacrificed.

I am not a game designer, but it defiitely needs something. Heck, a chance to get 10 aquila, totally worthless. But something to make you feel like you gained something by doing a havok 40.

Explain.

The difficulty jumps are bigger and because of this IMO, more meaningful in VT2 compared to Darktide. VT2’s highest difficulty does not let you just stomp through a level with minimal cognitive effort, unlike Darktide and its extreme levels of power granted to the player.
Exceptions apply to lingering wizard (nerf pls).

What we have now is the middle ground. The RNG is still there, but the ability to bypass it still requires dozens and dozens of hours playtime to have the resources to bypass it. What we have now is actual progression where the systems allow a perfect item… if you have the resources for it.

No, we don’t need a loot chase, the game should be confident enough to stand on its own mission gameplay, not having to rely on frakking 0.0001% drops to feed gambler tendencies or retention. Darktide isn’t a loot game.

This is not rewarding at all. Crafting 20 swords, and until you get the one with 60% movement, and then consecrating all the trash ones to green so you can feed it into the weapon mastery. Might as well just straight up get over the wasted point and click, and pay a set amount of resources and max a weapon outight. Cause that is super annoying. Like a lot of super annoying steps that dont add anything to the game.

Like at this point, the whole getting master with a weapon is a waste of time. Really adds nothing but waste time.

You want to make weapon mastery meaningful? you level up when you do some special penance like tasks with the weapon, 5 successful counter parries with the devil sword, x amount of weakspot kills with revolver. etc … or something that actually means something. Actual mastery of the weapon.

You say leveling a character is a waste of time? weapon mastery as it is now is a total waste of time.

V2 was a much simpler game as well. It did not have all these complicated systems that DT has. like the variety is really refreshing, and you have Havok for the difficulty spike. but not the freedom.

Like one thing I liked about V2, was the change to shade that actually made her more skillful to use, setting up something rather than just having +X damage and mindlessly sweeping the battlefield ala Sauron.

I never said it was a good system, just better than what we had. At least currently as it is now you don’t have to infinitely interact with it to never get what you want. Yes, the way Fatshark has designed it is a pretty terrible user experience if you are using resources to fast-track the mastery. But at least it is an option.

I wanted to thank you for including the fatshark support link for a potential refund, it actually worked on my end (over 400 hours, complained about AMD performance)

It technically doesn’t even clear that low bar. Several missions are straight up not available in the “campaigns.” Namely Smelter Complex, Chasm Logistratum, and Power Matrix are all missing.
