The Book of Grudges: Because Fatshark Won't Listen

I never thought I would say this… But it’s in my top three favorite classes as of now. I was a huge skeptic of the class, because everything made it look like hot garbage at first, but it turns out it’s not, minus the obvious bugs at the moment. To date, it’s the most fun I’ve had in Darktide in a long time actually. So, IMO, is the class weak or OP? It really depends on the build honestly & your skill-level in the game. If you’re going Dual Autopistols with Desperado going full in, try hard sweat mode, then it’s OP for sure. You can literally clear every single room before your teammates touch anything. It is what it is. The Shivs are OP as well, with certain blessings & build loadouts. You can literally light spam or even heavy spam into hordes of like 20 gunners & demolish them in a blink of an eye. Armor too with just your sheer speed & agility. You don’t even get touched bobbing & weaving in & out. So, if you’re on the more, ‘skilled end’ of this game, you’ll almost get Psyker levels of DPS, yes, you read that correctly. I’ve pulled that off a few times, getting almost the same damage on the scoreboard several times. So, I don’t really get what they mean by ‘weak.’ But sure, other melee offers for the class are a bit lackluster besides the usual suspects & could be buffed slightly more, granted. I’ll give you that. There needs to be more variations of weapons worth taking. He’s clearly faster & more agile than even Zealot, which I love this feature about the class. So, survivability is ‘okay,’ personally I do just fine like the other classes, so it’s not a big deal. I don’t find myself going down anymore or less, personally. The class is obviously no tank like Ogryn or Arby, let’s be real. But I think that so far people are pretty bad with the class, just examining how others do with it as I play with them. They tend to go down a sht ton in my experience. This to me is a giant skill-issue, 100%. Either they’re not dodge sliding enough or dodging in general. Or they literally put themselves in harm’s way out in the open, so they can get gunned down essentially, or even if they run a head, which I’ve seen dozens of times thinking they’re invincible. I do realize that dodging is a bit bugged atm, but even then I don’t have these issues. All-in-all, it’s a fine class addition in my eyes. It’s nice that they’re releasing new classes & all. But honestly, I think we could use new maps/weapons even more so & perhaps to actually balance the game out a bit too, instead of these obvious cash cows. These should be more of a priority, at least in my opinion.

definitely this. i like this gameplay that demands agility and knowledge how not to get boxed in. it’s amusing how negatively this class was seen as “low effort” on release by some vs how fun it actually is to play. less twitchy players are imo better with a more forgiving class.

It’s kind of funny actually. I’m going back & forth between Scum & Zealot. You can definitely feel the speed/agility difference, it’s crazy. Even Zealot feels sluggish when I switch back to him, & that’s not to hate on Zealot at all. It’s just pretty wild to me. I’m like, no way Zealot is this slow. It’s just totally screwing with my head. It was just kind of bizarre knowing Zealot used to be the speedy one. Still a great class, but yeah, man, you can feel it for sure.

indeed, zealot needs a knife to even keep up. on the other hand, he has lots of tdr and can take more. ogryn feels like driving a truck when switching from scum.

when playing with @Index we had much better results playing as different classes, 1 scum and 1 tankier guy, because scums deal a lot of damage but have little staying power if one is in trouble, plus we don’t compete for the grenades.

anyway, there’s one bug where is suspect one of the 3 “guaranteed activation” mods being the culprit. scum without cartel special, just normal stims, works great. but when i take the special, switching weapons and even stabbing/ shooting becomes severly laggy over time, to the point that the guys runs around 1-2 seconds with his knives raised. possibly because the cartel mix can also change weapon swap speed. just in case someone uses these too and noticed that.

I think I know what you mean, I’ve been having the same issues… I disabled those mods to test it out again & it seemed to fix it actually. I sent a few messages to some of the modders for those mods about this, but I haven’t heard anything back yet. So, it’s not just you for sure. I’m not exactly sure which one it is exactly. I’ll have to do trail by error & tick off which isn’t the issue until I get to it eventually. I’ve just been kind of lazy lately to even do it.

yes, exactly this. glad to hear that i’m not the only one with the issue, and i’m trying to play, not troubleshoot things.
and why not simply disable the guaranteed mods… because if you’re used with swaps and activations always working, and then you disable them and the game executes inputs when it sees fit.

Those mods are pretty important for sure. I mean, even in an animation, it still guarantees your ULT’s & all that noise, it’s pretty important, IMO. Just like switching your weapon swap mod. I’ll have to really work on that another time. Shouldn’t be too hard to figure out with the process of elimination.

Hive Scum is probably the best class in the game right now. Having a Power sword focus target vet hitting an afk plague ogryn in the psykhanium being your main point is peak delusion.

The game’s code seems to be degrading more and more with the passage of time. I’ve experienced all of these in the past few days.

I’m back after taking an almost year long break. To the community, thanks for keeping this running (=
