This is me attempting to gather the things players have a problem with - what a soulless corporate exec might refer to as ‘pain points’. Small things that are lost in the overall shuffle of angry player shouting that results from Fatshark’s actions. Long-standing bugs, broken promises, failures of the company, et cetera. These are things that could be fixed, but have not been - after all, a Grudge must have a means of addressing it. This is not for Crafting, for the Memorial there stands unbroken. This is not for the Mourningstar, for there there is still joy and fresh ideas. This is for the Grudges, so that they may be recorded. Submit your own, with thread documentation, so I may add them to the Book. [image] [image] SPECIFIC GRUDGES Anything that’s a ‘single’ problem - a specific long-running bug, an exact promise that failed to be upheld, or a singular insult. BUGS What it sounds like. I will attempt to limit this to the clearest-cut cases. This also includes features that were present in the previous Tide game, Vermintide 2. Level Selection was present in VT2 and was completely abandoned. The Battle for Tertium update technically fulfills this, allowing levels to be selected and played at any difficulty (though running a specific modifier of said difficulty). BROKEN PROMISES AND OUTRIGHT LIES [1716999261251440] Unfortunately for Hedgey boy, no, it’s still a lie. That’s what this section is for. We were promised ‘retroactive penance completion’~~ for the penances added by the Path of Redemption update. This has not materialized. In fact, some new penances are for things the game already tracked, but they never got completed properly.~~ Retroactive Penance Completion not working [image]Path of Redemption Update, Coming Late April 2024 Correct, the penance progression will not be lost. Also, if you’ve already met the requirements for the new penances, they’ll be unlocked. This turned out to be a genuine error in communication on Strawhat’s part. [image] SOLO MODE IS MISSING. (see other section). Aquilas, used to purchase cosmetics, were originally going to be available through more than direct purchasing. This did not materialize. [image] [image] 'We don't want to be predatory'—Darktide devs explain why they switched to an in-game currency to sell cosmetics | PC Gamer We were also promised a 100 Aquila pack in December of 2022. This also did not materialize. Warhammer 40,000: Darktide - Community Update #5: Week 2 - Steam News Brunt was originally slated to deliver specific weapons via a ‘contract’ system. This, again, never came to be, and was never corrected. "You’ll still get some random gear as in Vermintide 2, but you can also buy weapons from an in-game shop or set a “contract” on a weapon you want and then earn it through a progression system. Hands-on: Warhammer 40K: Darktide absolutely rules | PC Gamer Crafting originally was going to involve weapon attachments: this was quietly scrapped for the current system. [0gevv4fjh79a1] It’s getting memed on now since Helldivers 2 managed to create weapon customization. Weapon customisation - what is that Quarterly class release: While ‘technically’ fulfilled by the class overhaul - which converted things to the current talent tree system - this is still an issue that others feel should’ve been addressed, probably by explicitly confirming that ‘new’ classes were folded into the talent trees. I personally think this is Fatshark’s lack of communication at fault: for further detail, see ‘Communication and Feedback’ below. Classes in Darktide During the leadup to the ‘Secrets of the Machine God’ update, Fatshark released a teaser that blatantly showed characters talking about radium weapons. Apparently they couldn’t get the weapons done in time, so they deployed the CMs to claim that the conversation about radioactive ‘Adeptus Mechanicus toys’ was about the already extant plasma gun. This was quickly memed. [Screenshot_20240623-153117] LITERALLY JUST INSULTS Claiming that adding more than one page would confuse users in an attempt to excuse blatant FOMO tactics - this is still regarded as a terrible excuse, and an insult to our collective intelligence. [image]Community Update #6: Signal Update Our plan for the shop is to give players more time between rotation periods until we reach three screens worth of cosmetic bundles. The timer will remain inactive until the first page is due to be rotated out with 24 hours remaining. It’s important to note that the store is on rotation to give players some variety while at the same time not creating clutter. We feel that unlimited store pages are likely to create confusion and a bad user experience. Rest assured, the cosmetics are not gone forever and will likely reappear. Guys Please Help Me I am Scared The ‘14k Aquilas’ controversy, an old one but one still generating annoyance. To sum up: after the Xbox release, new Gamepass and Xbox players purchasing the game would receive a massive quantity of Aquilas in a promotion. This was seen as a very bad move by the PC player base, especially because it coincided with the most expensive cosmetic set yet (the Krieg sets) rotating in. The company attempted to douse the fire by releasing the ‘Vanguard pack’ - essentially just rejiggered cosmetics in the colors of the Moebian 21st, that some feel were going to be released to players anyway and were only reframed as for PC players due to the backlash against the Xbox player base getting free cosmetics. This ended up getting revived once news of the PS5 port dropped, showing it’s still a problem that people complain about. XBOX got 14.000 aquilas - Steam got nothing (Fatshark responded 23/01/2024) THE MEME, THE MYTH, THE LEGEND: THIS ISN’T CoD [unknown] In all honesty this comment was one I hesitated on including, due to the fact that 1) Hedge no longer works at Fatshark, and 2) apparently in context it was responding to a troll who was trying to bait out this specific response. Ordinarily I’d file it under ‘Fatshark needs to fix its comms practices’ and leave it at that. But it’s been pointed out that this is essentially the only official communication about weapon attachments (something that was promised, as you can see in the Broken Promises section). Thus, it ends up here, and it will remain until we find out more about attachments. Referring to players as Rejects in all official communication: ** As far as I can tell, this seems to have stopped. SOLO MODE NEVER MATERIALIZED Solo mode is missing. It was last stated to be ‘almost done’ shortly after launch. After that, we received little to no official communication. It eventually was revealed by @FatsharkCatfish that Solo Mode was ‘no longer a priority’, but this did not penetrate due to being a random forum comment and not an actual announcement. It has now been two three years since Solo Mode was ‘almost done’. Happy 3rd Anniversary! Solo Mode scratched? [image]Community Update #1: Pre-Order Beta Hotfix 1.0.6 Now we are confident in our Dedicated Servers, we would like to take the time and answer those recurring couple of questions that remain; “Can I play Darktide solo?”, “Can I play a private game with one or two of my friends?”. The answers will be Yes, and Yes. We’ve been working on an option to play exclusively in Solo Mode, where you will be hosting locally your own instance with bots. Because you will be hosting the AI and other game systems locally, this will increase performance cost. However, we continue to monitor and improve the performance where we can. Solo play is in its final stages of testing as we fix the last issues that remain. We aim to release this at Launch. If not, a patch shortly after that in December. While VT2 had paid content, it also had a less horrifically garbage store for said content (see cosmetics store section below), so the news that, on top of everything else, everyone would be probably expected to pay for a new class, was not well received by some. https://forums.fatsharkgames.com/t/skulls-reveal-leaked-and-its-paid-dlc-june-23rd/108084 This was then accompanied by the launch realization (June 23rd) that Arbites, a human class, would be expected to not be able to use ‘universal’ cosmetics previously made available to the other 3 human classes, after Fatshark updated the backend specifically to remove them.. [Screenshot_20250625-212105] More feedback swiftly followed, almost universally negative: https://forums.fatsharkgames.com/t/fatshark-give-us-our-damn-cosmetics-back/109565/ https://www.reddit.com/r/DarkTide/s/3lpMRQkv4t https://forums.fatsharkgames.com/t/let-us-use-generic-human-cosmetics-for-arbitrators/109805 This was confirmed to be rolled back on the 27th, with Arbites getting back those paid-for cosmetics in Hotfix #70**.** Unfortunately, this policy has not been consistently followed and some are still inaccessible. https://forums.fatsharkgames.com/t/head-cosmetic-equippable-by-all-human-classes-is-missing-arbites-class/121568 In a hilarious turn of events, just before leaving for their annual month-long middle-of-the-year vacation where they do nothing, Fatshark broke several of the talents for Arbites. Y’know, on a class people paid money for. Despite having a fix on Jun 19th, they went on vacation for a month instead and delayed the patch. Hive Scum Fatshark promised a reveal of a new class DLC in a roadmap on Nov 11th. In classic Fatshark fashion, they failed to reach this goal and inexplicably delayed the reveal for a week at the last minute. People were grumpy. Then the 18th came, with the reveal that it was Hive Scum. A background choice people could already use cosmetics for. [Screenshot_20251118-121106] [image] https://forums.fatsharkgames.com/t/hive-scum-reveal-is-scum/114764 https://forums.fatsharkgames.com/t/hive-scum-aggressive-ranged-design-note-leaves-a-sour-taste/114814 https://forums.fatsharkgames.com/t/an-enemy-class-from-division-2-is-definitely-unique/114836 https://forums.fatsharkgames.com/t/we-heard-how-much-you-guys-want-an-admech-so-heres-a-ganger-enjoy/114950 Once gameplay and the class tree details were released, people immediately noticed several overpowered elements, and the complaints began. https://forums.fatsharkgames.com/t/hive-scum-is-an-insult-to-veterans-and-zealots-stimm-lab-rant/115285 https://forums.fatsharkgames.com/t/buff-classes-to-hive-scum-level-pt2/115275 Skitarii Ironically I’m not seeing nearly as much problems. Skitarii is iconic and well-liked, it doesn’t seem to be cataclysmically OP beyond a single weapon interaction (Arc Rifle and ACD), the tree is well-designed, and the bugs were fixed by and large before vacation. Kudos to Fatshark, third time might’ve been the charm. One other non-specific thing of interest: some dislike having to grind levels in a class they paid for. https://forums.fatsharkgames.com/t/leveling-up-a-new-class-again/115404 Similarly, all three classes have released with a fixed cosmetic spread that, unlike the core four, has not updated. Fatshark has refused to clearly state whether or not they intend to add more (paid) cosmetics to these DLC classes or why they only added a single store page’s worth. https://forums.fatsharkgames.com/t/cosmetics-for-dlc-classes/123489 GRUDGES MINORIS This section is for minor issues that crop up that don’t really fit the other categories and don’t collectively pose a long-running problem/trend. Resetting talent trees. This happens basically every other update - whenever there’s a tweak to a class’s talent distribution, or as of 12-2-2025 when there’s an update to how talents are assigned, it resets the trees. This can range from moderately annoying (for people who have one build) to INCREDIBLY RAGE-INDUCING (for people who have modded in past the loadout limit on multiple classes). FIXED AS OF THE LAST UPDATE Useful thread of people’s problems: https://forums.fatsharkgames.com/t/what-is-your-biggest-pet-peeve-so-far/121664 LONG RUNNING PROBLEMS Essentially anything that is a long-running, multifaceted problem. These issues are interconnected, and big enough to earn their own subfolders. They’re in rough order of how much the player base hates/hated them. ITEMIZATION AND RNG This has plagued the game from day one. Thankfully, I don’t need to source everything. Literally every single complaint about crafting and rng has been memorialized by @brosgw. https://forums.fatsharkgames.com/t/the-crafting-memorial-lest-we-forget/79281 With the Unlocked and Loaded update, I feel this grudge is mostly done. The RNG is removed and itemization is so much more player-friendly. There is still the question of curios and upgrading them (link to it being discussed in this thread). THE COSMETICS STORE, FOMO, PRICE GOUGING, AND PREMIUM CURRENCY [image] Cosmetics are near-universally agreed to be overpriced, especially regiment-specific ones. This is also accompanied by complaints about ‘reskins’ and ‘palette swaps’, where all that materially changes about a given cosmetic is the color, despite being sold at full price - OR AT A HIGHER PRICE. Bundles have had all their interesting bits stripped out while being sold at the same price as other, more complete sets. The below bullet points sum up the issues in the linked threads. Free cosmetics, whether weapon skins or outfits, have a lamentable lack of variety as well. They typically go un-updated for new weapons, often for years. In addition to being overpriced, cosmetics often are cheaply and shoddily made to the point of not even having different body types to accommodate the two different body types offered at character creation. There also used to be weapon skin bundles for 800 Aquilas, that had skins for every single weapon. These have been replaced by individual skins for around the same price points, effectively something like a 2000% price increase. A single mod - For the Drip - uses the exact same tools Fatshark itself uses to recolor and resell cosmetics. For free, you can unlock far more variety and superior fashion than hundreds of dollars worth of cosmetic buying. The FOMO store element is, obviously, very irritating, and is still being complained about virtually constantly. I would personally consider it the most complained about element after crafting and game stability. Ninety-five percent plus of forum users would prefer it be replaced with a catalogue.. Helldivers 2 managed to do the same thing in May of 2025. [AISelect_20250513_062049_Samsung capture] Nobody even likes the stuff on offer, with polling in 2025 being over 80% negative about upcoming rotations. Despite one event during Skulls 2025 offering Aquila rewards and being met with overwhelming positive feedback when doing so, when the Arbites DLC and Battle for Tertium update dropped a month later, the accompanying event offered zero Aquilas, dashing hopes that the Skulls event would be the standard going forward and at last make the currency ‘earnable’. People did not enjoy this.. They further did not enjoy when the next event ALSO had no Aquilas. The desire for Aquilas as event rewards has been consistent since (screenshots are of top comments related to a November 2025 event) [Screenshot_20251127-115517] [Screenshot_20251127-130235] [Screenshot_20251127-115150] A lack of Aquilas is the first response to a February 2026 event. [Screenshot_20260302-130702] And in August of 2026 too. [image] In response to complaints about charging five dollars to RAISE THE VISOR OF THE DEFAULT ARBITES HELMET, their product marketing director during an interview at IGN claimed they had to sell things to keep the game developed - conveniently ignoring that the complaints are about the predatory nature of monetization, not that it’s monetized at all. They then claimed they’re listening to feedback, which is a transparent lie. https://forums.fatsharkgames.com/t/cosmetic-store/97436 Naturally, it was worse, and instead of a simple ‘collect x amount of skulls and you get your Aquila payment’ like last year, it decided to attach it to a global tracker with a whopping…five Aquilas as the first reward. When the cheapest thing in the game costs at least 300. https://forums.fatsharkgames.com/t/please-explain-this-fatshark/121787 'NEW GAME MODE' SILO-ING AND LACK OF DEVELOPMENT This was originally organized individually by topic, but given the release of Expeditions in 2026 and the continued issues with the game modes, it feels important to address as a long-running pattern in Darktide’s development. I initially considered putting it under the Output section, but it feels unique enough to deserve its own. Fatshark keeps making game modes that are underbaked, do not interact with the rest of the game well, and which are swiftly abandoned by devs and players alike. Havoc was touted as a high-difficulty mode built around an annoying grind that accomplished nothing but annoying players, Mortis Trials swiftly proved boring and provided no meaningful rewards, and Expeditions appears to be on the same track. That these are released instead of new maps or proper story development is noticeable. Havoc Mode Note: this was originally under the comms and feedback section. As of November, Fatshark seems to have learned nothing from previous games and dropped a teaser for a game mode highly-similar to the nearly-universally-hated ‘Weaves’ system from Vermintide 2. The outcry was quite loud (multiple links). This does not seem to reflect internalizing feedback at all - though Strawhat is doing their best to collect information. THE DAY OF HAVOC HAS ARRIVED - and here’s the feedback thus far. https://forums.fatsharkgames.com/t/havoc-is-weaves-2-0/101761 https://forums.fatsharkgames.com/t/party-finder-for-havoc-mode-is-karked/102412 https://forums.fatsharkgames.com/t/this-gamemode-will-be-dead-in-a-month-if-fatshark-doesnt-make-enormous-changes/102367 https://forums.fatsharkgames.com/t/havoc-mode-only-progresses-for-who-starts-it/102317 https://forums.fatsharkgames.com/t/havoc-first-impression/102307 https://forums.fatsharkgames.com/t/havoc-feedback/102440 The most salient points: FOR THE LOVE OF THE EMPEROR DON’T GATE IMMEDIATE PROGRESSION TO ONLY THE HOST Party Finder is garbage and overcomplicated, ensuring this will be a dead mode the second everyone gets tired of it, just like the Twins mission, because as it turns out, trying to gate anything behind a new board just gets it ignored when the novelty wears off. RNG missions are also terrible. Why. Further feedback gathered after the first day: https://www.reddit.com/r/DarkTide/comments/1h6jn3q/the_weaves_system_sucked_nobody_liked_it_and_they/ https://forums.fatsharkgames.com/t/what-havoc-should-have-been/102593 https://www.reddit.com/r/DarkTide/comments/1h6ljzd/the_book_of_grudges_has_a_new_section_for_havoc/ https://forums.fatsharkgames.com/t/party-finding-in-havoc-appears-to-be-a-turd/102870 https://forums.fatsharkgames.com/t/as-someone-with-tons-of-playtime-on-this-game/104771 Rewards dropped on the 8th. Them apparently being quite easy to complete was also annoying. In addition, the lore snippets that are the reward for completing trials are delivered randomly. Because someone in Fatshark has a RNG fetish and needs to be kinkshamed for it. https://forums.fatsharkgames.com/t/mortis-trials-are-way-too-easy-and-it-really-hurts-the-game-mode/106244 Mortis still draws criticism for, essentially, drawing away development time. https://forums.fatsharkgames.com/t/the-parasites-of-darktide-havoc-and-mortis-trials/113887 Expeditions In March 2026, Fatshark announced, with very little lead time, that they were dropping a new game mode in the vein of Helldivers 2, with a randomized map, timed missions, and new equippable abilities. The reality of the situation is unfortunately that said map was coupled with an almost non-existent reward system (collecting the ‘new currency’ only unlocks further Expeditions content and potentially penance cosmetics, nothing else) and the puzzles and randomized map were not sufficient for many. This, along with Fatshark’s typical technical issues, has not made it particularly successful. Feedback is clear: They want meaningful rewards, they want more variety, and they want it to work properly. https://forums.fatsharkgames.com/t/expeditions-is-incredibly-grindy-for-no-reason-and-all-missions-feel-the-same/119933 https://forums.fatsharkgames.com/t/fatsharks-new-mode-has-clearly-been-a-failure/119867 https://forums.fatsharkgames.com/t/how-can-expeditions-be-salvaged/119943 https://forums.fatsharkgames.com/t/do-you-guys-find-expeditions-fun/119840 https://forums.fatsharkgames.com/t/expedition-feels-like-its-missing-the-core-of-darktide/119324 https://forums.fatsharkgames.com/t/expeditions-lack-purpose/119772 https://forums.fatsharkgames.com/t/expeditions-copying-helldivers-instead-of-vermintide/119245 https://forums.fatsharkgames.com/t/what-is-the-point-of-collecting-tech-fragments/119356 https://forums.fatsharkgames.com/t/disappointed-whale/120563 By late April the game mode was considered dead and when it was announced the June update would add more, people openly stated Fatshark shouldn’t have bothered. https://forums.fatsharkgames.com/t/please-stop-adding-content-to-a-dead-game-mode/121792 In July, more of the same. Expeditions is considered a dead mode and it offers nothing of value. https://forums.fatsharkgames.com/t/making-expeditions-actually-matter/124083 With all three of these game modes, the opinion of the forum is generally along the same lines, which is ‘why are you making this instead of Chaos Wastes’. Each mode is generally seen as only a fraction of what CW offered, and rather than acknowledging this sustained feedback and creating, well, Darktide Chaos Wastes (which combined the random maps of Expeditions, the boons of Mortis, and the heightened difficulty and modifiers of Havoc), Fatshark continues to release new modes each encapsulating a fraction of their old work’s effort and potential. To make things worse, these are increasingly seen as taking development time away from more useful things like actual maps, which are a consistent request. COMMUNICATION, FEEDBACK, AND ISOLATION OF THE FORUMS [a5wazc] Fatshark fails from a PR perspective, rarely communicating. They also outright lie: see ‘delayed for technical reasons’ from 2023’s Skulls, and the entire ‘Broken Promises’ section. This failure to communicate reaches the point that unpaid Discord moderators have to clarify that, no, the statement that itemization would be part of an update on the 25th doesn’t mean that itemization will be part of an update on the 25th. This also apppears to be driven by the fact that they don’t have enough PR workers: they have seven or so PR ‘managers’ but the only full-time CM dedicated to Darktide is Catfish, who’s been out sick for weeks. It’s bad enough that they’re designating non-employees as moderators as of the 31st of May, 2024. Fatshark’s PR problems continue as of June 12th. They’ve apparently decided that posting a singular emoji once a week on Twitter is how best to build hype. Unfortunately the emojis are of things they already teased, so it comes off as tone-deaf at best and lazy at worst. There was a recent development where a Spanish-language gaming magazine either leaked content or screwed up, and published a discussion about a WIP system for replacing crafting. Fatshark was abnormally quick to address this, and explained that the system presented is not what they’re working on currently. In addition, they revealed that locks WOULD be broken. All good news, so why is it a Grudge entry? Because it took a journal leaking this information for Fatshark to tell us anything good at all, and they would’ve remained silent otherwise. As of the Secrets of the Machine God update, they pushed a massive across-the-board increase to enemy lethality without telling anyone. This was eventually fixed as StrawHat, the only active CM, hunted down the devs and got the rest of the patch notes released, confirming the change was intentional. Communication is slowly improving under @FatsharkStrawHat as of July. More activity in the forums rather than Discord, more prompt communication, more devblogs. Only time will tell if this keeps going, but signs are positive. Things appear to have reverted to form as of October 2024 - vox logs, side stories, and everything else are getting posted with no attention paid to the forums, once again. https://forums.fatsharkgames.com/t/fs-please-say-something-or-rethink-your-pr/94565 https://forums.fatsharkgames.com/t/the-future-of-darktide-is-vague-a-transparency-issue/94580 https://forums.fatsharkgames.com/t/fatshark-lets-talk-the-state-of-darktide-and-comms/95527 https://forums.fatsharkgames.com/t/huh/95465 https://forums.fatsharkgames.com/t/we-still-know-nothing-abou-new-update/95578 https://forums.fatsharkgames.com/t/the-longer-we-go-without-word-the-more-it-seems-that-the-itemization-update-will-be-bad/95624 https://forums.fatsharkgames.com/t/fatshark-listen/96000 https://forums.fatsharkgames.com/t/fs-comms-again/100862 As of February 2025, we have reverted to silence. https://forums.fatsharkgames.com/t/why-is-communication-with-fat-shark-so-poor/105152 https://www.reddit.com/r/DarkTide/comments/1j3hka7/we_are_starved_for_content/ https://forums.fatsharkgames.com/t/the-lack-of-communication-on-certain-issues-is-extremely-unprofessional-and-disrespectful/106965 April 2025: https://forums.fatsharkgames.com/t/fatshark-its-time-you-acknowledged-you-have-a-problem/107054 https://forums.fatsharkgames.com/t/is-fatshark-even-listening-to-us/107042 In mid June of 2025, @FatsharkStrawHat announced that they would be departing the company, leaving new CM @FatsharkKitefin in charge of communication. https://forums.fatsharkgames.com/t/a-farewell-from-strawhat/108848 August 2025: https://forums.fatsharkgames.com/t/an-example-in-dev-transparency/111732 https://forums.fatsharkgames.com/t/hello-fs-i-cant-hear-you-anymore/112244 September 2025: https://forums.fatsharkgames.com/t/last-content-update-dates-back-to-june-23rd/112363 https://forums.fatsharkgames.com/t/news-please/112425 https://forums.fatsharkgames.com/t/can-we-have-our-new-vet-weapons-now/112331 https://forums.fatsharkgames.com/t/this-is-a-serious-problem/112402 Apparently this is something they consider meaningful communication after months of silence and repeated requests to know what is happening with game development. https://forums.fatsharkgames.com/t/barktide-the-pets-of-fatshark/112426 It’s cute, but it’s not acceptable as the first thing you drop when people are desperate to know what you’re actually developing. This was accompanied by the news that recently minted CM Kitefin would be leaving shortly, with no replacement tapped. @FatsharkQuickpaw took over CM duties again. On October 23rd, Fatshark announced a roadmap for both Darktide and Vermintide 2 for the rest of the year. [edd74a45f7b8b85200d5e4fb3851602efbbddeda_2_690x388] Naturally, they stumbled at the first actual item to release (as the events had started beforehand) and FAILED TO RELEASE A CLASS ANNOUNCEMENT (not content, an announcement), saying on the day they were supposed to fulfill their promise that it would have to be delayed until, say it with me, Next Week. Their reasoning? [ugiipoqwin0g1] Someone tell them this is the first impression. By 2026 silence returned. https://forums.fatsharkgames.com/t/i-cannot-read-write-or-speak/118881 October 2026: https://forums.fatsharkgames.com/t/live-service-game-roadmap-and-proper-community-to-dev-communication-not-included/127013 Overall, this is the mood regarding comms: [image]Darktide is a Tale of Woe I came back to the game from open beta when the locks were broken. I think I came to the forums seeking the deep knowledge a couple/few months later as I was dedicating myself to personal skill improvement and rising in the difficulties. At this point, you can trace a timeline of my comment history to see disgruntling in real time, primarily due to comms. Strawhat was still the DT CM when I came around. Hearing now that she likely had to fight tooth and nail for everything good she did for the community is so sad but not surprising. I have no attachment to Warhammer or 40k. I played VT2 for ~20 hours on a free to keep giveaway (before going back to 100% and try solo with bots during my DT hiatus these past months). I am the example of what neglecting comms gets you. I don’t give a flying fluck who/how many/why/what people were mean to you on the internet in the past 20 years/months/days/minutes. You don’t win or keep any new customers by neglecting them outright. I technically bought my first ever funny money in this game when I purchased the imperial upgrade on sale. I did this because I liked the mortis cosmetics and buying skins for a direct $ cost isn’t predatory (a la DRG). There was no other way but the FOMO shop at the time to support the devs and show how much I appreciated what the game had given me. I was on the cusp of my first actual direct purchase of funny money with the one-time-first-time bundle. But, due to the comms neglect making me think my time with the game was rapidly approaching an end due to the stacking issues and no idea what or if the company had ANY plans to do anything, I decided against. I put the game down right after HS ruined the experience of base classes with it’s blatant pay to win BS and only just came back to see the new mode. And I actually like the mode! A vastly unpopular stance, I know, and I believe FS does too. But now, after a whole week of myriad woes encompassing not only bugs but FUNDAMENTAL flaws with this long time dev project mode, only to continue to be met with silence about intent, future plans, or if they will even try and salvage it, I’m just frustrated. Frustrated players don’t open wallets, or at least I don’t. I now dream of life as a mid or upper tier manager at a swedish video game company because I know life cannot get much better or a job much less demanding. BALANCE Weapons go unbalanced for long periods of time, with significant portions of the blessings and perks being borderline useless. The same holds true of abilities and classes. Others are incredibly overpowered. While this list is, by definition, somewhat subjective, it shouldn’t be completely ignored. Standouts include: Dueling Sword being an extremely powerful ‘kill everything’ weapon, where attempts to nerf it in Bound By Duty (September 2025) instead made it MORE POWERFUL due to insufficient rollback of its power coupled with buffs to players in general and health increases to enemies the DS specializes in. Plasma gun, while less contentious, still shines in higher difficulties due to enemy spam coupled with its cleaving attacks making it extremely powerful, as well as being able to handle recently buffed armored enemies. Psyker’s Inferno Staff being an OP ‘kill everything’ option that screen clears all enemies with minimal effort. Veteran’s Shout being massively more powerful as an ability than his others, despite recent buffs to other parts of the class’s kit. Thunder Hammer, unable to hit necessary breakpoints on enemies in Damnation while carrying significant drawbacks No longer the case judging from patch notes!. Brought back as recent buffs to enemy health while not significantly nerfing the Dueling Sword and other standouts have made this harder to use again. Infantry lasguns, outcompeted by other options - still a problem in 2025, and when they’re being outcompeted by laspistols in the same niche there’s a significant problem. Autopistol, nerfed into the ground and a generally inferior option - may be alleviated by Nightmares and Visions update, need to test/see confirmation. While still not the strongest choice it definitely has a niche on more melee-focused builds and is mostly just a case of being outcompeted by standout ‘kill everything’ options that deserve nerfs. Some specific marks like the standard-issue shovel on vet, the Graia infantry autogun, etc tend to suffer compared to contemporaries. Somewhat alleviated by Unlocked and Loaded - with the changes to marks, this is basically immaterial. Veteran in general, between smoke grenades, a hostile spawn environment, and gimmicky keystones, suffers overall, most prominently when trying to specialize in ranged combat. While still suffering from some issues, talent tree reworks have made him less squishy and able to fight in ranged combat without being punished. That being said, some aspects of his kit (shout, smokes, stealth) are going to remain severe outliers without further changes. February 2025: Ogryn has gotten nerfed into being the weakest class overall, and buffs are the highest-priority issue among polled players, while ‘normalization’ of weapons takes up subsequent places in importance ranking. Ogryn got a talent tree rework that made him the strongest class. https://forums.fatsharkgames.com/t/could-we-get-more-frequent-balance-changes/105670 https://forums.fatsharkgames.com/t/fatshark-should-add-weapon-balance-to-its-biweekly-patches/94706 https://forums.fatsharkgames.com/t/why-do-force-staffs-still-have-a-useless-melee-attack/94762 https://forums.fatsharkgames.com/t/remove-inferno-staff-from-the-game/120148 Some argue that part of the problem is less dangerous elites relying on spawning more than simply reducing player power. https://forums.fatsharkgames.com/t/my-lack-of-motivation/105103/ In June of 2025, the Arbites class dropped. It quickly became apparent that this was tremendously OP, and thus discussion of balancing picked back up. Fatshark continues to not do iterative balancing, and refuses to nerf things consistently, creating a power creep environment that players have taken notice of. Arbites themselves are tremendously OP, to the point of being able to run through Auric Hi-Intensity as two players, using only dogs for damage, WITHOUT DODGING OR SPRINTING link here https://forums.fatsharkgames.com/t/dlc-cash-class-is-ridiculously-overpowering-team-enemies/112142 [image]Balance has no finite resolution They do balancing, but the main issues are that their balancing cycle is very long, they have some pathological need to re-invent wheels, and when they drop major balance changes they drop so many changes at once that I bet even they can’t keep up with the myriads of changes to an aspect they are attempting to balance; not to mention a few instances where some teams may not be talking with each other so that there are multiple changes to multiple layers that all target the same in-game behaviour, usually resulting in overcorrections, compounding and unintended effects. The sheer number of enemies being spawned to provide even the slightest bit of challenge to players may be responsible for the issues outlined in the server issues section below, especially silent specials. https://forums.fatsharkgames.com/t/the-special-clownfiesta-need-to-be-toned-down/113460 https://forums.fatsharkgames.com/t/stop-thinking-about-balancing-around-havoc/119037 OUTPUT AND LACK OF FIXES Every two weeks, like clockwork, a hotfix comes out. The hotfix will typically contain little to no actual fixes to the game beyond clear game-breaking bugs (usually introduced by a previous hotfix), and almost entirely focus on fixing stuff in the cosmetics store. It blatantly serves as a cover to add the next cosmetic rotation into the store. Fatshark produces little to nothing beyond this for months on end, with the rare ‘patches’ and actual fixes (aka, the ‘hotfix’ right after a patch usually, such as Hotfix 37) not providing enough content to justify the silence. People have taken notice. It’s actually quite alarming to also see how many minor, easily resolvable things and QOL features are missing. There’s an old writeup of many flaws Darktide had at launch - and a lot of these are still in the game to this day. The lack of output is pretty comical given that they can spend a month saying they are working on a dev blog, and still not be able to give any concrete information on itemization beyond it only getting delayed until Fall (communicating this is an improvement over the usual tbh). Not being able to say what is happening with the game after that much time is not an acceptable level of output. UPDATE: This is slowly improving as of late June/early July. StrawHat, the only active CM, is working to improve communication, and keep it going even during vacations, and patches have been occurring much faster. If this is maintained I will keep you all posted. ** FURTHER UPDATE: A PS5 port has been confirmed to be in development. [image] I guess we know where that dev time went. ** 2025 update: Fatshark is back on the ‘hotfix every so often, no major changes or balance fixes’ treadmill again. https://forums.fatsharkgames.com/t/its-ok-if-we-dont-get-major-updates-every-month/105460 ** It also doesn’t help that content created for events often ends up cycled out for no reason. 2026 update: Comms are dead as of March, Fatshark continues to give no indication of its direction or plans, and they barely put out balance changes much less actual development. This has been noticed, and people are openly questioning the game’s development direction. https://forums.fatsharkgames.com/t/hotfix-39-1-3-11-patch-notes/95185 https://forums.fatsharkgames.com/t/hotfix-38-1-3-3-patch-notes/94595 https://forums.fatsharkgames.com/t/hotfix-36-1-3-1-patch-notes/93530 https://forums.fatsharkgames.com/t/hotfix-35-1-2-34/93111 https://forums.fatsharkgames.com/t/quick-update-on-latest-rotation/95736/ https://forums.fatsharkgames.com/t/it-is-almost-time-for-the-bi-weekly-hotfix-patch/95687 https://forums.fatsharkgames.com/t/oh-good-theyve-provided-us-our-bi-weekly-ration-of-pointless-recolored-slop/95763 https://www.reddit.com/r/DarkTide/comments/102demo/darktide_feedback_essay_or_smt/ https://forums.fatsharkgames.com/t/an-update-on-itemization/95942 https://forums.fatsharkgames.com/t/development-cycle/98399/ Complaints about how slow and low-effort development of the game is persist into 2025. https://forums.fatsharkgames.com/t/flawed-content-release-loop/107530 For another example: balancing the game can draw a ridiculous amount of ire for minor nerfs to clear overperformers simply because Fatshark takes so long to do simple number adjustments, as pointed out below. https://forums.fatsharkgames.com/t/hey-fatshark-this-is-what-happens/109082 One particular aspect of the problem is that while Fatshark does create new stuff, like event modifiers, those event modifiers are then discarded and almost never reappear. This makes it so that Fatshark’s development is almost always sunsetted quickly and invisible to the majority of players. https://forums.fatsharkgames.com/t/fatshark-needs-to-adjust-its-update-strategy/112514/ Discussions about the long-term health of the game and what it’s missing continue to crop up in 2026. https://forums.fatsharkgames.com/t/issues-i-believe-need-to-be-fixed-first-for-darktide-s-long-term-health/117667 https://forums.fatsharkgames.com/t/what-is-darktide-missing/117696 https://forums.fatsharkgames.com/t/darktide-is-a-tale-of-woe/120184 https://forums.fatsharkgames.com/t/im-in-a-toxic-relationship-with-this-game/120602 September 2026: Once again, no comms, no roadmap, no nothing, and speculation abounds that Darktide is on life support while the bulk of development occurs on a UE5 title as yet unnamed. https://forums.fatsharkgames.com/t/question-to-the-players-for-darktides-direction/124923 https://forums.fatsharkgames.com/t/about-servers-being-shutdown/125341 https://forums.fatsharkgames.com/t/so-whats-coming-next/125190 JANK, LAG, AND SERVER ISSUES Audio cues, and audio in general, remain broken to varying degrees. After the Path of Redemption update, this became intertwined with performance problems. This has been comprehensively documented for years, primarily by @Harridas, and has its own megathread as a ‘Known Issue’. https://forums.fatsharkgames.com/t/audio-issues-most-consistently-with-poxbursters-and-other-specials/94468 https://forums.fatsharkgames.com/t/missing-audio-cues-for-specials-and-elites/86251 https://forums.fatsharkgames.com/t/audio-periodically-cuts-out-in-game/95638 https://forums.fatsharkgames.com/t/sound-cues-are-deteriorating/97368 https://forums.fatsharkgames.com/t/silent-specialists/100200 https://forums.fatsharkgames.com/t/enemy-audio-cues-issues/100507 Still a problem in 2026: https://forums.fatsharkgames.com/t/another-rant-post-about-audio/117372 Phantom hits and input problems also remain consistent, alongside disconnects and crashes. This seems to be a serverside problem. We also have issues with weapons ‘losing’ their attacks or attack chains. Lag and ‘jank’ continues to be an issue, starting to be one with the increased enemy counts of Patch 13 and continuing to get worse. https://forums.fatsharkgames.com/t/phantom-hits-are-still-a-problem/94854 https://forums.fatsharkgames.com/t/multipe-compounding-ongoing-mechanical-and-or-server-issues/95025 https://forums.fatsharkgames.com/t/error-2001-2014-every-game/96996 https://forums.fatsharkgames.com/t/my-personal-review-and-opinion-on-the-state-of-darktide-after-1800h-ingame/97048 https://forums.fatsharkgames.com/t/worst-lag-ive-ever-seen/97306 https://forums.fatsharkgames.com/t/has-there-been-more-than-usual-amount-of-desync-input-lag-in-recent-week/97433 video evidence [image] BongoSkaggs: I didn’t see anything specifically about input issues. Just the ghost hits, disconnects, and crashes. And I wanted to register a separate complaint about this kind of bull****. https://europe1.discourse-cdn.com/flex013/uploads/fatshark/original/3X/0/f/0f2a05faf14381a46755841caad7d25865ea1d8c.mp4 Here’s the the game interrupting attacks I make. This happens constantly with certain weapons. And there’s also this sort of thing. https://europe1.discourse-cdn.com/flex013/uploads/fatshark/original/3X/c/9/c94667f06829ad19bdc874cc81e1a885deff9046.mp4 Where the game loses track of my attack chain and resets it. Again, a persistent, constant issue with certain weapons. https://forums.fatsharkgames.com/t/worst-lag-ive-ever-seen/97306 These problems persist well into 2025, and have now escalated to commonplace disconnects from overburdened servers. https://forums.fatsharkgames.com/t/investigation-disconnects-error-code-2001-2014-3013-4001-general-connectivity-issues/107930 https://forums.fatsharkgames.com/t/i-cannot-believe-we-are-still-having-issues-with-connectivity/113070 Hey, 2026 and still having these problems. https://forums.fatsharkgames.com/t/poor-hit-registration-ghost-hits/118028 AMD cards also have significant problems with the game. [image] Wolfpack11: This game runs like an absolute dumpster fire - it runs worse than anything I’ve played recently by far, on AMD at least. I do see comments from NVIDIA users as well, but the lack of support/performance issues/lack of communication on AMD is just mindblowing. There are dozens of threads regarding low FPS and stuttering on AMD cards in the performance section and if you have a look at steam reviews performance is very frequently cited. A few for flavour - this is just casually scrolling the first page. There is a thread saying it’s a known issue, and and that thread hasn’t had an update since the 3rd of April, not even a “no news to share at this time”, and that update on the 3rd was “no news to report”. The thread itself is from April 2025, and issues predate it. the FSR fix that came along a few patches ago improved things, but it’s still pretty dire. It’s also disappeared from “known issues” when hot fixes are released. Part of what gets me is that people in the community are digging through the files and making improvements to the .ini files that result in dramatic improvements, even if they don’t fully solve the problem. I’m scared to imagine the number of hours Vizra and co have sunk into testing. So we can say with some certainty there are gains to be had from simple tweaking - but these changes aren’t integrated into the game? Every patch they must be reapplied. For AMD users at least, these changes seem universally positive (and even some Nvidia people see gains), so I don’t understand why they’re not adopted? If we’re considered an edge case, the launcher automatically detects CPU Core count, so why not AMD card detection and an alternative config? Why is it that the best result is being delivered by fans on a forum and not a team with access to development tools? I have a very modern and powerful system that delivers superb performance in everything else I’ve thrown at it - it’s only Darktide where I have to lower settings to get a playable (not great) framerate. Aside from general performance issues, there are issues like longer loading times which still seems to be an issue. I regularly load slower than my friend on a weaker system. This was acknowledged in 2023. I hesitate to include these as well, given they were acknowledged and fixed, but it also seems like half the time when updates are released they break or worsen performance. Is this stuff not tested? I’d normally be fairly forgiving of updates breaking stuff but when taken in context with the other issues I just get the impression that testing for AMD is an afterthought. In general - really not happy with the state of the game and the approach FS seems to be taking. I’ve seen some comments that it’s an AMD driver issue, and that may be true, but at the same time the .ini changes really make me suspect that’s not the whole story. There are definitely things that could be done. Given the consoles of this generation are on AMD hardware, I’m terrified to imagine what their performance is like. https://forums.fatsharkgames.com/t/please-fix-the-netcode/124078 LACK OF STORY Darktide was promised an evolving story written by Dan Abnett. In the years since its launch, it has transparently not delivered on this. At launch, this was even more laughable of a claim, with an almost completely absent narrative. The ‘Battle For Tertium’ update essentially resolved this. With a proper linear campaign, cutscenes, and a functional framework for new missions, there is now an actual story that makes sense and has plot. Old Sources https://forums.fatsharkgames.com/t/the-war-for-atoma-is-a-war-i-have-no-stake-in/105636 https://www.wargamer.com/warhammer-40k-darktide/character-creator-revealed The 18-page interview, printed in Edge 372 on Thursday, also reports that, unlike Fatshark’s previous Warhammer co-op titles, “Darktide’s storyline and missions will expand and develop after launch, almost as a live service” “At release, they’ll reflect the warband’s arrival at Atoma Prime, with reconnaissance missions and dialogue that establishes the setting,” Edge explains. “But in the weeks following, the narrative will change as the warband discovers more about the Chaos threat.” “Darktide’s missions… reflect what’s happening in the Inquisitor’s campaign when you play – gathering information, killing targets, and preventing sabotage – all alongside your personal story of raising your rank from ex-con to a valued member of the warband,” the magazine adds. https://forums.fatsharkgames.com/t/they-lied-about-the-story-stop-denying-it/71090 https://forums.fatsharkgames.com/t/that-was-the-story/58248 https://forums.fatsharkgames.com/t/will-we-actually-be-getting-a-story/65072 Missions get dynamically populated on the Terminal according to either predetermined narrative or emergent events that happen inside the world. However, with the co-op nature of the game, it was essential for us to allow the possibility to play missions together, even if players are way apart in progression." https://www.playdarktide.com/news/dev-blog-mission-terminal VERSION CONTROL Fatshark has a persistent problem with keeping old bugs from coming back and issues with keeping everyone using the same version of the game that dates back to Vermintide 2. Gunner pushback in particular for DT seems to be an ongoing problem. Currently (7-04-24) we haven’t seen any major rollbacks, but there had been an issue with the Secrets of the Machine God update that eventually turned out to be intentional enemy buffs. https://www.reddit.com/r/DarkTide/comments/19487cb/basic_shooters_and_gunners_pushing_you_back_is_a/ https://steamcommunity.com/app/1361210/discussions/0/6689601154224026552/ https://medium.com/@timewarriorslps/fatshark-forged-a-community-that-gave-them-3-million-in-a-month-then-burned-it-to-the-ground-a47e0c5d130b By 2025 this has (mostly) faded away, with some flareups with Arbites, but otherwise fairly consistently not being documented. WHAT TO DO IF YOUR GRUDGE IS TOO GREAT You have problems, they haven’t been solved, and you want your money back since Fatshark won’t fix things? Someone published a guide on how to get it back even if Steam won’t let you.

If only. I think it’d be funny.

I really hope to see more improvements in the future.

Hm. Should I put the Thunder Hammer back on the balance list? Enemy health changes seem to have sparked discussion about it not being all that good, and the fundamental problems with dueling sword seem to remain.

IMHO, no, at least not outside the context of busted weaps like dueling sword. I really think all it would need to feel great is the “busted” stagger from 2 hotfixes ago back on it. It otherwise feels fine enough to me with martyrdom, so I don’t think it’s grudge worthy atm. But I don’t speak in terms of havoc balance cuz I’m not that guy.

Adding: [image] The parasites of darktide : Havoc and mortis trials Gameplay Feedback The core game is STALE, and ROTTING. And the new content is LITERALLY, RIGHT THERE in the game but noooooo, they have to make it havoc/mortis trials exclusive… The 2 modes that pretty much everyone universally agrees are terrible. These 2 modes as they currently exist within the game are bleeding the game dry. The core game havent received even a single update in 11 MONTHS. Why? Because all of the updates have been leeched by havoc and mortis trials. All these great fun looking modifiers in … [image] The special clownfiesta need to be toned down Gameplay Feedback Frontlining is what I do 90% of the time, I don’t enjoy backlining much. I feel like the sheer insanity that is the number of specials present on the field at any given moment in havoc renders my job as a melee focused character largely redundant, as I usually spend at least half my time either dodging disablers or avoiding fire. I don’t get to interact with the combat part nearly as much as the psyker just vomitting dmg from a safe distance, or the vet chuking nades nonstop. It’s not hard, it…

Agree with adding thunder hammer back to the balance list.

Yeah, i rescind my previous defense.

Half of the animations in this game annoy me. Animations of veteran and zealot sword charging, shotgun animations that do not allow you to run after firing. It literally kills me. This needs to be fixed, and at least speed up these unnecessary animations.

It’s almost that time of year again and I’m prepared: [Screenshot_20251103-180659.To Do]

Without evidence to the contrary, it would appear that Julia was asked/told to remove her latest comment from the appreciation post. This was nothing but good spirited, light-hearted banter between customers and a FS employee we appreciate. 100% a communication grudge if the PR leads forced such a stupid move.
