The parasites of darktide : Havoc and mortis trials

The core game is STALE, and ROTTING. And the new content is LITERALLY, RIGHT THERE in the game but noooooo, they have to make it havoc/mortis trials exclusive… The 2 modes that pretty much everyone universally agrees are terrible.

These 2 modes as they currently exist within the game are bleeding the game dry.
The core game havent received even a single update in 11 MONTHS.

Why? Because all of the updates have been leeched by havoc and mortis trials. All these great fun looking modifiers in havoc, all the broken but fun looking blessings in mortis trials. Completely wasted and locked FOR NO REASON in the modes that almost everyone dislikes.

Imagine how fun it would be to actually be able to combine any blessings from mortis trials with any modifiers from havoc. That is a tsunami of great content…

Maybe i dont know, make the mortis trials blessings into a corrupted chests from chaos wastes in vermintide 2. 1 spawns in a map and you can risk a challenge to gain a blessing. Maybe make the chests into a modifier just like presence of grims and tomes.

Maybe when you open a chest you get one of 3 blessings but you start getting constant corruption so you’ve to speedrun the map.
Whatever, just RELEASE THE MODIFIERS FFS

And i didnt even mention the “limited time “EVENTS”” if you can even call them that.
They’re literally just modifiers AGAIN LOCKED AWAY for NO REASON. They’re released once for 2 weeks and then forgotten forever.
The game sevearly needs new content and you completely waste them. You actually go through the trouble of making them and then throw them into the bin like WTF?!

And dont even get me started on the horrible “update” of the mission terminal that made it look worse then it was at game’s launch…

They had a great thing going, update after update made the game better. And then they had to ruin all of it with havoc and mortis trials…

Bump

I stopped playing a year ago and now that i came back it havent improved even a tiny bit…
I’ve changed my review on steam back to negative. And it’ll remain that way until the modifiers are released and the core game gets proper love it deserves. It worked for total war warhammer 3, maybe if we get the review score down to “mostly negative” they’ll actually start listening.

Agreed!

Are you absolutely sure I can’t tempt you to hounds and sniper gauntlet though? :grimacing:

Also agree the main missions need some love. I want a new biome with 3 new maps more than anything else.

There is a reason.

Enlighten me. What reason is there for locking every new modifier in havoc?

lol, the gamemode got +20k people to play the game

The issue was the horrendous balance of the mode and lack of matchmaking, which frustrated people and made them leave

But the new gamemode did get people, it was just Fatshark with extremely bad maintenance and rushing out the gamemode instead of tweaking it until it’s ready

Yes because it was a new thing, its to be expected.
How many people play it now? And how many people play it because they actually like it not because its the only thing thats actually getting new content?

I guarantee you, if they’d release the modifiers from havoc’s parasitic grasp, its player numbers would tank significantly.

I should note i dont hate the existence of the mode itself. I just hate that its stealing content that should exist in the core game (aka the modifiers).

Based OP. It’s not even just that they’ve abandoned the core game, they’ve literally made it significantly worse with power creep clearly aimed at Havoc balance.

Oh yes they say they aren’t balancing around Havoc, but there is literally no other good reason for the never ending buff train than to try to increase build diversity on Havoc.

Meanwhile there is almost nowhere in the game left to go if you want the word “pacing” to have any meaning at all.

Yeah hey so that old combat director that left FS. The one that actually got what made Tide gameplay so special and engaging. Anyone know where they are now?

For the same reason locks were added to perks and blessings.

I still find it hilarious that they abandoned the weekly rotating major modifier(s) on release because for whatever reason they didn’t/couldn’t/wouldn’t set up a playlist of modifiers before leaving on their post-release vacation, and then it was dogs for 4 months.

There are enough modifiers now to have 3 or so present at the same time and have them rotate weekly for the main missions, but again, they are happy to just let the main missions effectively rot. I don’t consider the revamped mission screen to have really done anything since it’s aesthetically and UX-wise worse than what we had before. Slightly more choice for missions but the unmitigated RNG of the mission screens has missions rotating out rotate immediately back in more often than not.

All modes have potential to be good, just none of them are ever going to get the development time they need. Fatshark likes to bandage one problem while moving forward and creating another ten and never come back around until 2 years pass.

The core game needs shielded horde variants and elites, dregs need a few elite/special variants so we can finally have dreg-based modifiers, we need better control over mission selection and more maps, rework existing maps and map events, and we need a rebalance of overperforming weapons. None of this can happen beyond a glacial pace because mortis trials needs new archetypes and more maps (even though not a single person has even posted about the new map/archetypes) and havoc needs unique mechanics, reworked existing ones, and unqiue modifiers as well every season.

Literally no one plays Versus because “it gets new content”. And few people play it because of the reasons I already stated

I’m confused about your point of “Havoc is taking the Modifiers away!” like we literally had events introducing those Modifiers (Rotten Armor)

Yes, previous modifier events should all be unlocked and appear in random missions, but I do feel it’s kinda silly to say “Havoc is taking all content away” like no?

I’m pretty sure NO ONE would’ve liked to deal with Havoc 2.0 and 1.0 modifiers outside of it (Imagine purple healing elites in Auric, people would fail 24/7)

But they should defenitely release all previous event modifiers once again in the normal board

Custom lobby/matchmaking would do so much for this game!

1st of, those are locked to Mortis cause they’re meant to not be “realistic” even by 40k’s comprehension.

Both aren’t made for the standard player, but both do have their niches, niches that people have had requested before.

Some of the Havoc modifiers should be made more liberal, with them applying in Auric, and then progressively going in the normal loop.

Yeah, Mortis Trials was such a missed opportunity. The core idea is solid, but I have no idea why they didn’t just turn it into a proper Chaos Wastes-style mode. It makes no sense. And the worst part? It’s not even rewarding. If it gave bonus XP to your weapon or class, or something to make it worth the time, maybe new players would try it, but right now, it just feels like a chore.

Havoc? I played enough to get the skins and insignia, then dropped it. It’s not fun. I don’t even know how to explain it, it just isn’t enjoyable. Malestorm is like a 1000 times better.

Here’s what they should do: scrap both of these half-baked modes and build a proper roguelike system, something like Chaos Wastes. Split it into 4–5 mini maps, build it around the second Hive City, and let us play as Mortis Operatives. After each section, let us choose a modifier, just like Mortis Trials, but as part of the progression.

The bones are there. All these cool modifiers and blessings are locked behind boring, unrewarding systems when they should be the core of something better. Let us take risks, earn stronger buffs, and actually build a run like you do in Chaos Wastes. It wouldn’t even need tons of new content, just better use of what’s already in the game.

As it stands now? Yeah. It’s a slog. And it’s wasting potential.

  1. Fatshark releases major content in an unfinished state.

  2. It then takes them months, sometimes even years, to fix or rebuild it from scratch until it finally becomes somewhat decent.

  3. However, instead of putting their full effort into improving existing content, Fatshark for some reason decides to release yet another unfinished side content — like the Mortis Trials.

  4. As a result, the number of game modes that require fixes and additional work keeps increasing, while they’re constantly busy dealing with bugs, leaving everything half-finished.

  5. In the end, the entire game falls into a state of chaos

And right now, we’re exactly at stage 5.

I can personally attest that you are incorrect.

+1.

The modifiers wouldn’t be as spicy outside of havoc too, as enemies wouldn’t have havoc-level buffs. It would just make the game more interesting to have all modifiers in rotation. You could play 20 games a week and perhaps miss 1 or more modifiers, and same goes for each week. The variety would open the game up so damn much.

I refuse to play Havoc because I’m offended by those color-swapped enemies. I also refuse to play the Maelstrom modifier with green enemies for the same reason.

I do not want to see any more of those lazy ugly things that completely destroy my suspension of disbelief. Please never add any of those to the Auric board.

Edit: did a bit of stalking and it seems the studio is working on HD2 content.
