Testimonials by those who enjoy the game

For my part… Darktide has certainly had its issues, and does yet still. Crafting, crashing, bugged soundless trappers, weapon mark / blessing balance issues, map biome diversity etc. not to mention Fatshark’s odd propensity to often take forever for the smallest changes & fixes nevermind communication. Won’t say more about that, other than I acknowledge they exist.

That said, I swear I just don’t know if that jank and roughness is like a basic requirement or something, but every single one of the few best games I’ve ever played in my life was the same. And Darktide beyond a doubt is one of the best games I’ve ever played, despite everything.

My ADHD has made sure that throughout my life I never stay interested in any game for more than a few weeks to a month or two. Even the best of them at least need a break after those few months until I get back to them a year or so later. But Darktide has been out for 1.5 years now, and I’ve played it zealously all this time.

The game has an unbelievable, stupefying depth to it. There are literally hundreds, maybe thousands of strong ways for you to build and play, and so many of those are as off-meta as things can get with barely anyone even knowing they exist at all! Backed by Darktide’s fantastic gameplay, there really is nothing like it out there. At least not in my experience.

For someone like me who loves figuring out how things work, finding something new and weird like a child excited for a new toy, this game is a dream come true. And somehow as frustrating as all the posts about how psykers or shotguns or whatever suck are (when they really don’t), it almost perversely also gives me this small feeling of satisfaction of seeing deeper, more than they do. Literally knowing how good those things are, how much more there is to the game, and using it every day to a great success on T5+. I’ve been meaning to create a huge psyker guide forever but, there’s just so much stuff I can never condense it enough to even get started. x.x

I mean… we live in a time where virtually every game’s community has their math down to a tee, where despite the design offering a seeming multitude of choices, it always, always comes down a 1-2 boring cookie cutter builds per class and the same BiS gear. On top of an already boringly simple gameplay loop, where the skill involved is just your aim, reactions and APM. In that company, Darktide is like a unicorn.

So yeah. Despite its flaws, it has something few other games do and none in such abundance. For me, this is the best coop shooter / melee I’ve ever played. By far. And as much of a shame as it is that there’s so much untapped potential here that could make it even so much better, I do not take what we have for granted. It’s already enough.

Sorry for the long ramble. Coulda made it shorter or more concise I’m sure but I’ve been meaning to respond for a while and haven’t so just wanted to say something finally.

What do you guys think of the dialogue between characters? It seems that depending on your background, that does determine what lines your character’s voice says. I mean, every character has their own flavor “beloved” “why does a dream hurt” etc. etc. But beyond that, they have their own Lore. It’d be neat to find someone who studied the game enough that can tell where your origin is based on your lines.

Currently only 2 personalities have solid backgrounds (Veteran Cut-throat and Psyker Savant). Cut-throat is also the only personality that is affected by planet of origin (as you can only choose it if you come from Cadia); as far as I’ve experienced there are no lines affected by any other background choice in the character creator. Psyker Savant is always an ex-enforcer from Tertium.

A reply that is otherwise right, but as for this—there is enough holding rmb all day, most like while holding in a corner, in VT2. It need not be brought to Darktide.

Fair enough, but kinda have to ask if BCR should exist at all in DT then, cause if it’s never particularly useful to have, why exist as a perk? Definitely not against just replacing useless perks with something else.

Co-op horde shooters are my jam. VT2 was my favorite of all time and 40K is my favorite universe, so naturally I was stoked for Darktide. After the rough launch and FS’s slow response to right the ship I put the game down until last year when the big patch that revamped the talent tree dropped and the game finally started to look like it was becoming the game I wanted at launch. I put roughly 200 hours into it after that and it was my GOTY for 2023 in terms of time played. I couldn’t put it down.

Then…FS started being FS again. No meaningful new content since the patch aside from a mini event and the usual cosmetic nonsense. No new maps, game modes, and of course nothing about the itemization rework. The “announcement” yesterday is just the latest joke. I feel like compared to the massive content drop VT2 just got, it’s like the devs are trying to quietly let this game die as it’s stretching them too thin. I also feel like they don’t even play their own game which has been suggested countless times. I dunno. I think Darktide is still a fantastic game and have had an absolute blast playing it, but with the combination of neglect and Helldivers 2 coming out I haven’t played since February.

There were 2 new maps between the class rework/Xbox launch and the Orthus Offensive boss fight (which I assume is the mini event you’re referencing).

Here’s a timeline of updates across all the Tide games.

Wow when you lay it out like that, it almost looks like darktide in terms of content drop frequency

For truths sake I feel you should know why people may have legitimate reasons to come in and be annoyed:
this thread originally mocked the people who made other threads that talked about disliking the crafting system. Its kinda like baiting people then acting surprised when the baited people eat the bait. There are quotes from the start of the thread that show this.

Like I said near the start of the thread and again in answer to @Alik , dont be surprised when you bait people and they come in and eat the bait. You set the tone of the thread. I know you edited it in an effort to rectify that and I think that while that was a good choice I also feel this thread is too far gone and bad blood has already been infused within its halls.

Maybe you could create a new thread with the best elements of this one? You could directly quote the good testimonials across. Start with a fresh slate kinda thing.

I looked at this a bit more closely and the more I think about it the more I think the person who made this was biased. He’s leaving things like this out on the VT2 side:

For the record that’s major patches that he’s leaving out. Sanctioned mods speaks for itself (it basiclaly finally allowed you to use non gameplay impacting mods they greenlight on the regular servers). Patch 1.2.1 is the patch that added red dust, meaning it’s the patch that finally allowed you to scrap your duplicate reds and turn them into different reds, MAJORLY reducing the RNG involved in collecting red items. It also introduced the social wheel and the ability to direct bots to pick up tomes and other items, and tons of balance changes. I’d consider both of these updates VERY major, but they’re completely left out in this spreadsheet.

But he’s putting things like this in the Darktide side, going as far as to mention even balance changes to 3 weapons to make sure that Darktide appears to be getting as many updates as VT2:

Ah yes, healing kit 5 minutes. Huge change. Doesn’t mention red dust or official mods, but does mention “healing kit 5 minutes”

Ill get flagged for spam.

I don’t know the original creator, but you could surely find them to correct the record. Since they put effort into this, and continue to, they’d probably appreciate it.

This was a pretty key change to medkits that I definitely feel, but I’m not going to argue it’s significance in the grand scheme of things.

Upon doublechecking some more, it’s also leaving out major bugfix + balance patches and big event patches. I’ll just list them for anyone who wants to see what the spreadsheet is missing on the VT2 side (besides the two I posted previously)

You’ll notice all of these are pretty significant. When’s the last time you saw darktide patches this big?

Furthermore there is even MORE bias that I won’t list individually: VT2 has had tons of seasonal events and community events and triple XP weekends and events that introduced things like the tzeentchian twins modifier… None of those are listed. It’s unfair in the sense that they’re not listed on the Darktide side either, but that’s just because Darktide has had none when this was last updated.

I won’t check the rest (only checked up until 2020) because that’s still far off in the future for the Darktide comparison.

I’m fine, I’m just adding the context for anyone who might view the spreadsheet here and expect it to be unbiased. There’s not actually a way to check who made it as far as i’m aware.

Nvm, I found the creator. Here’s what he says:

I have found that even some 'Tide veterans who are more used to Fatshark’s content release can be a little forgetful about earlier states of beloved games.* Even if I do wish DT didn’t have the premature release and FS had learnt from earlier experiences.

Vermintide and Vermintide 2 had a steady stream of updates for their lifespans, but it’s easy to forget how spaced apart they were.

It shows both that Fatshark has constantly updated VT2 but also to perhaps remove some rose-tainted rebreather masks about what Vermintide 2 had as features and added content in the first year and beyond.

So there would be the motive for implementing a bias.

I love being lied about behind my back :stuck_out_tongue_closed_eyes:

'Phage really deludes himself into thinking that I’m being “hostile” for simply disagreeing with him fundamentally and that’s why I’ve got him permanently on my “Ignore” list to be honest. But no, I’m just an arsehole for wanting an argument that should’ve ended nearly a month ago to finally be put to rest.

That’s my 2 cents on this thread, see y’all.

Edit: I was gonna delete this post because it was responding to something fairly old… but you know what? Screw it, I’m keeping this post up.

Since people immediately blocked this, I’m only judging by what is written now, for I didn’t see what was written before. If you have any proof I am willing to look, but it’s best to stop this useless argument and focus on the topic instead of speculation.

That’s weird, you used to be able to view edits, but now you can’t. New forum setting?

This was written regarding people who complained about the crafting:

As soon as I saw what @Cerebrophage said in the original edit I knew there would be people coming in regarding that and lo, @Rainman was the first to understandably be annoyed by it.
Once a thread starts on this kind of derailment, its almost impossible to put it back on track in my experience. Afaic a new post should be made.

If the post gets hidden for spam Im pretty sure a CM will step in and unhide it if you ask. Just keep it simple and clean. Make a good thread for people who want to say what they like about the game
