These nodes should be merged into one.
I feel like sticking to one side of the three provides no gameplay purpose aside from thematics, it stops players from taking talents that are impactful and fun to have in order to get +5% damage or 15% toughness that are rarely as impactful as something like sustained assault or being able to afford to path to the blitz they want.
You should not consider these nodes as tax points…
toughness, toughness damage reduction nodes are really important
And melee damage bonus is something really useful for a zealot (dunno why, but I tend to think it is).
Perso, I see a tax node that I hate, but on the veteran tree. This one is annoying:
they 100% are tax nodes you not every build nor play style needs all of those toughness nodes. and killing stuff more efficently is better than stacking toughness you wont use.
vet also as this problem.
these also need to be merged and maybe even the ones in blue
smokes do very little and players shouldnt be forced to take them if they want a certain build
also sustained assault gives more than that +5% damage node and it doesnt give you any breakpoints what so ever. there only build i ever willingly go with a single +5% node in is ogryn. feel no pain branx pick with carapace t4 and thrust t4 makes me roughly 20 hp away from one shotting a crusher
I really think that you should test things…
Stamina is useful and toughness also
If you don’t see the why, then the problem is not these nodes…
i played plenty of games with zealot on 133 toughness its fine just dont get hit.
I don’t care of how you play…
I just care of what Fatshark could do with such dumb ideas.
They have just, again, impacted badly the veteran. Played it several times, but the change (vanguard removed) impact badly my gameplay for several builds.
I don’t want that they, again, impact badly an other class.
If you have no imagination and don’t want testing other things, that’s your right.
However, I test lot of things. And toughness and even this stamina node, is something interesting for builds. For my toughness builds, I love these nodes.
bruh you’re acting like that one node is the only source of toughness in the entire game
Define badly effected veteran
I exclusively play him and he’s fine on auric
Strong even.
He was good before
And he’s good now
Tax points play a crucial role in limiting what you can fit in one build, and while yes sometimes they limit build making in artificial ways, I don’t think that’s always the case.
I dunno what you’re asking for sounds like effectively just like a buff without really making build crafting any more interesting, when we’ve had patch after patch of power creep.
Eh
Pssssst, if you read previous comments in the thread you can work this out for yourself. They liked the previous sprint cost reduction talent that was replaced with swap speed. So for them a talent they found valuable got turned into a “tax node”.
It is surely fine…
Changes after changes, I feel my gameplay with the veteran is badly impacted.
And my problem, that is a personal feeling, is that updates after updates they have impacted badly my gameplay with this class.
I have reached the point where I don’t feel any pleasure playing it. It is even the contrary.
Will be temporary? I don’t know… however, this is what I actually feel.
So, remains only one class for me… the zealot.
And so, dumb idea like the one in this thread, are something I fear. Not cause Fatshark would do it, there’s no chance for this. These nodes are importants. However, they could have a bad idea like what they just have done with veteran
(removing vanguard to put one motion that brings nothing to the keystone specialist - and veteran keystones are, for me, the worst thing they have introduced in this game so trying to make them stronger by nerfing other gameplays is just something that impacts badly my gameplay)
going on any meta build is just as op I just want more player choice since we clearly cant have balance
Yep, those are tax nodes for switching branches/lanes. Can’t exactly call them bad and they aren’t different from any other way of thinning/spreading out skill tress.
there’s already plenty of choice, we’ve got a whole skill tree those. You effectively asking for even less balance, as we both know those 2 points from removed “tax nodes” would go into whatever node can make “meta” builds even stronger
There are some issues with current skill trees but tax nodes ain’t one of them
Ah the “F it I don’t care anymore burn it all down” approach.
Understandable but I don’t respect or agree with it.
I’ll just leave “I disagree” as my last comment for this thread then.
Changed how exactly
Veteran is still the same point and click adventure it’s always been.
The only tax node that actually irks me is on Chorus-- which forces you to dump two points on the ability minimum; I do wish that grenades and auras were a little more accessible to promote more build diversity, but I get the feeling that a good portion of players either make do, or we start getting into subsets who are optimization obsessed (gamers gonna min-max!).
I suck at making builds viable for anything but Zealot at this point (and even that I’m not great at). I know more or less where to go to get something that fits how I like to play and works well for me.
what? how is wanting blitz choice to not effect build cost any of whatever you said?
no one builds around their blitz unless theyre a psyker. all i want is for vet and zealot to not get point taxed for their blitz choice
At the introduction of the talent tree, there was no keystone
Then they have introduced keystones and nerfed a lot of talents
Then, after a little time, they have changed the top part of the talent tree
Then, now, they have removed vanguard and put something useless in my builds, one motion (but vanguard was one very interesting for my builds)
I don’t say that the last patch has suddenly changed the veteran. I say that the changes since the introduction of talent tree have, changes after changes, made the veteran uninteresting for me.
I have the feeling that they want to make keystones good enough. And for this, they introduce changes… however, as I said a lot of times, keystones are for me a big no. I tested them, again. This is clearly not possible for me as they lock up in a gameplay that I hate. All of them.
I really think that they wanted to put one motion to reinforce the specialist gameplay (and this is a big failure as one motion is useless for fast swapping weapons and that you can’t use slow swapping weapons for specialist).
So, no, this simple change has not suddenly changed everything. But all the changes have removed any interest in the veteran for me.
And the sad point is that I don’t like psyker, and I rarely play Ogryn. So, now I just have to hope that they release a new archetype that permits me to play ranged weapons with interesting gameplays. Cause, the veteran won’t give me that and I fear that the future of veteran will be the same… trying to make keystones good (but they will never be good for players that did not like them until now, like me).
Edit: and that’s why I don’t want fatshark to mess the zealot tree like they did with veteran.
The last patch, at least, gave me a duellist sword for zealot and also the achlys.
Achlys I need to practice it… Not sure it can be as strong as are rashad and antax…
Duellist sword is good and totally balanced considering all too strong weapons that exist and are kept in the game unchanged.
Edit 2: 2025 will bring me one game, dune awakening, that I hope that it could please me. Maybe then, it will be the time, for me, to stop darktide.
I mean I still say the entire Veteran design needs improving. I hate it, doesn;t feel remotely “veteran guardsman”. Tax nodes aside, the tree is unimaginative and doesn’t give enough of a sense of class identity.
This. Also, the cost is the point. There would be no builds if we could just pick whatever we wanted. About all classes have extremely powerful odd synergies on opposite sides. They’re often balanced around the cost of that longer path. Coming up with ways to get most of what you want while giving up as few relevant talents as possible is part of the fun of making those builds.
Zellies are a great example of this. The crit path starts down top right, but the best synergy with crits is Duelist, on the far left. To get both and especially if you also want the massive crit & finesse buffs from stealth, requires 2 trips from side to side. Crit builds also tend to lack stagger, so they’d really rather get Thy Wrath be Swift too just for basic safety.
Many of my builds struggle with those costs, and what to sacrifice in return. But even then, the builds are so crazy strong that giving up some dmg here or TDR there is still worth it.
