Stealing in your own pocket

Don’t think so, i think a CM mentioned it once but mostly this is used as a strawman for people that do want a scoreboard.

Back when VT2 released i and some others complained of the inclusion of a competitive style score board in a co-op game to the best of my memory toxicity wasnt on the list of reasons.

we got a reply from a shark (i really cant rem if it was a cm or a dev it was a while ago) and to paraphrase there were not going to remove it now but understood our concerns and would keep an eye on it.

fast forward to DT releasing and it came with no scoreboard and nones been added. my assumption is those concerns played out and they figured it would be better to not add one this time. of course they might simply of cut it due to running out of time. they are annoyingly quiet on the issue.

With scoreboard mod. Too much focus on total damage as only stat of worth.

You could pad total damage just by wasting time on back spawns or ammo thirst mag dumping heavy bolter sweep into horde constantly.

  • Melee/Ranged Elite kills
  • Damage taken

Far better metrics of team contribution. High awareness on target priority whether close or long distance threats to team that can really hurt and not needing medstation to the point can roll one health, so other players can take.

I don’t remember what the generic scoreboard mod has but the Ovenproof plugin shows this and other stuff as well.

If you want to be really crazy you can also run PowerDI for pretty much every stat you can think of.

How do you know the amount of work your suggestions would generate?

Havoc hasn’t been out for even a year and it has gotten multiple updates and tweaks.

This is fine you can live by this philosophy, but that doesn’t change the fact that this is a Live-Service game so they will have Micro-transactions and personally they are doing it in the best way without impacting game-play.

Say then that you bought Darktide when it came out, since then you have gotten multiple variations of maps, 2 new “biomes”, Mortis Trials, Havoc, Auric & Maelstrom , multiple new weapons, free events, free cosmetics (new pencance/havoc) and probably more stuff, multiple major class overhauls.

And you didn’t have to pay for any of it because you couldn’t have know it existed, it’s a bonus for you.

Micro-transactions are the fuel for making new content, community suggestions and feedback a reality. You do understand that, right?

”The biggest misconception [of people who play but don’t make video games] is that it’s easy to do stuff.” – Victor Magnuson, design director at Fatshark

It’s not stupid to pay whatever you think is reasonable for things you enjoy.

tbh he’s right about that.

But whether you or anyone else likes it or not that is their business model.

People like me who buy cosmetics at an absolutely irresponsible rate are subsidizing any work done to improve the game for people like you. I’ve made this point before, I’m not mad about it but it’s literally true. You got the game for whatever price and have not contributed to further updates financially. Unless you bought the Arbitrator.

I on the other hand have paid literally hundreds of dollars for cosmetics. Is that absolutely ridiculous? Yes. But without people like me the rate of updates might be even LESS than it already is.

So everyone complaining about cosmetics just seem to not understand this fundamental point about this game’s development. Or they, as I have said before, expect a ton of work for no pay. Which is simple entitlement. So I ask, as I have before with no good answer, what should their business model be? How do they fund further development while killing their cosmetics store?

That’s a bit like my own take on it. Whenever I buy completely optional stuff, I primarily donate the money to the devs for their past and future work, and they return the favor by giving me some goodies in return.
