Is it just me, or does vet, running any ‘basic’ loadout, feel a bit weak?
I’ve been out of the game a long time waiting for them to fix crafting, and they did… but at launch vet was mad powerful. Now grenades feel slow and lower powered, the plasma is still king but the lasers are meh, the PS is godly when it hits but getting to the hit it’s got problems.
Kantreals are in a bad spot, Chainsword is better then it used to be but not hitting that itch, seems like you can do well with a PS, plasma gun, and voice, but most other things just don’t feel like they have gotten the love, and those things mentioned aren’t for everyone.
But maybe I’m doing it wrong. I’m just running on malice trying to get my reflexes back, and I could well be missing something obvious.
If you are making it work let me know how.
I’m tying to scratch that Imperial Guard itch and … you know.
The Infantry Lasguns are a bit underwhelming. Yes they can be made to be amazing headshot monster weapons, but they’re unimpressive if you’re not nailing headshots, and other weapons will do better without needing to nail weakspot hits.
Recon Lasgun, particularly the VId (or whatever they’re calling it now, name changes were dumb) is filthy. A VId with Infernus/Headhunter or Deathspitter/DumDum, Crit chance and 25% Flak/Maniac coupled with Onslaught and Shock Trooper is simply glorious.
Infantry Autoguns are great.
The Power Sword is likewise offensively great, but the Dueling Sword when properly built is stunningly capable, some of the Tactical Axe builds likewise can be really solid. Shovels are amazing if you’re looking for a more defensive setup.
The Vet’s issue is more that the talents are…awkward. Like, the 2.0 tree came out without keystones because FS’s original concept was weapon-specific and they didn’t work great. Then the 3.0 tree came out and all the Vet keystones took 3-4 more points than every other class, and it took a 4.0 tree to fix that and now we’re on tree 5.0 we still have issues where they Keystones just aren’t terribly great, they’re usually not worth fully building into and often builds will skip them or only build into the first base talent. The Vet tree feels like it was really designed more around tabletop RPG ideas instead of a real-time shooter, and Fatshark hasn’t quite figured out what they want the bottom of the tree to really do yet.
They were rather OP till #13, they’re still tops but at least the other classes can compete better than in the past. Vet has a many outstanding options right now, Kantrael makes may types of weapons, I assume you mean the old MG12 lasgun? The 1a replaced it and is still solid, or whatever the grut it’s called now. You can switch between marks (variants) at will in inventory now.
You have: revolver, plasma, recon, bolters, infantry autogun etc for range. For melee PS still great (minus the baffling new bug related to special activations) and the new dueling sword is…nuts. The single shot lasguns can use some little bumps, but again, tons of options. Maybe exec stance and marksman keystone can use a tad more love?
Vet is top tier still and has the least reason to complain.
Gria braced auto gun with new inspiring barrage blessing on execstance Vet is pretty fun since it give you some survivability that you’d lose.
I never feel weak running off-meta build unless I’m literally scraping the bottom of the barrel tbh.
Still, it’s pretty wild FS didn’t do anything with stuff like Lasgun or Headhunter while the more popular weapons either get new buff or blessings.
Also I always feel like infiltrate is super meh, let alone smoke grenade. Zealot have much better grenade/ability on their stealth tree compared to Vet imo. It really need a revamp like what they did with Psyker.
Shout is way OP for survivability. Overload toughness on more or less no cooldown, with pushback and stagger. Keystones are a bit meh, but specialist gives a great melee boost that’s easy to keep up with a weapon that switches quickly (like revolver). And it’s viable to do a grenadier build as well.
People complaining that they cannot build 100% into shooting seem to forget it’s a hybrid combat game, and you’re supposed to also use your primary (melee) weapon.
The main issue with [Voice of Command] is not that it is overtuned, but that the competing abilities [Exec Stance] and [Infiltrate] are underpowered in comparison, similar to the problem with Veteran’s Auras.
Hard disagree, it’s not “overtuned” it’s OP as duck and makes you borderline invulnerable unless you’re playing with one hand behind your back. Infiltrate is also decent for ressing and doing objectives (two things randos never heard of, I know). Exe stance will never work in darktide, it’s a flawed concept.
Considering how strong his 2 utility abilities are honestly his kill things ability should be good rather than really only good with plasma purely for the wall hack and its ability to penetrate walls and pretty worthless with everything else
I do find it funny when I have vets in my pub games running it with a perk point wasted on it highlighting elites and specialists for allies. Wow what a massive use of a perk enemies with already distinct silhouettes that already stick out from everything else now glow. It’s really hilarious on damnation and even auric damnation I think players playing on that difficulty don’t need any aides in noticing the enemy types.
Im also a returned player from ages past and i was a dirty vet main yes (booo)
Your right about the grenades feeling weaker i think the radius is reduced is what makes them feel that way… there is a talent to make it larger but it just puts them back to similar to the original grenades i think.
Power sword got some heavy nerfs because it was breaking the way the devs wanted the game to feel… its why i left you know because they nerfed my loadout lol… but after returning and playing all the classes ive got to say it was the correct choice. Games a lot more fun when your not op.
When i first came back i left my loadout the same and tried to recreate somthing similar to my old build in the new talent tree and it just dosnt work at all now. So i made several new loadouts using the new skills and options available to vet and its actually better to play now than it was back in the day with the brokenly op loadout i was running then.
Just accept that you cant faceroll the entire maps spawn solo and play as part of the team and itll be fine heh.
I wasnt going to get into advice etc since this is already getting long but i will say one thing - try antax combat axe with the "changed "brutal momentum and weak spot dmg +flack dmg and it does very well. I use pistol / antax axe on my vet atm mostly and smoke grenades with all the perks … combat shout that knocks everything down and buffs everyone… vets got some cool support options now if you look in the talent tree. Old vet is dead sure but nobody liked him anyway lol. Long live new vet i say.
It is you. Veteran is pretty strong. However, things have changed (see under)
PG is a little too strong. They need to buff all others weapons outside the very strong ones (like revolver, void staff or pick axes) like autopistol, shotguns, brautos, headhunters, IaG (not the columnus for sure, but others yes)
Several need slight buff… others, like autopistol, need a big buff.
The veteran has become a multi tools. You can do whatever you want with it, melee or ranged, or even grenadier. You will get an advantage on ranged weapons, but that’s all.
Perso, I don’t use keystones and even after making the penances for them, I have not changed my mind. Worst, it made me not wanting to use ever marksman keystone. For specialist I am not sure I could use it from time to time… However, my feeling is that these keystones are really really really badly designed and that you can get a lot more without taking them.
And this leads to the fact that, yes, Veteran is no more the class we have known. And that I would really want a new archetype with keystones I can enjoy.
Sidenote: I don’t use new names… I don’t want to learn them after 2 years at using the old ones
Vet is fine, let us know around what you want to build your vet playstyle and I’m sure people are going to be happy to provide you with some ideas. Everything else is up to you and some practice.
The problem with VoC, it’s spamable. Kruber’s shout in V2 isn’t OP for that reason, however if you stack CDR boons in Chaos Wastes it becomes so.
Another thing is that golden toughness can be farmed like the blue one. Imo, both relic and voc should just give extra toughness, and once you lost it - that’s it. So not increasing your max toughness cap, but just providing some extra toughness.
One of the best weapons, very versatile, decent mobility and damage vs anything, except vs crushers, but you have kraks or bolter and plasma for that.
Share your build and weapons, either we can theorizing endlessly.
Highkey if you need a build, you can only learn so much from others but you gotta tailor it to your own playstyle. Peeps jus gonna keep telling you a bunch of metas youve probably tried already.
