lol
To be honest, I feel this way mostly about Fatshark.
I know what you’re thinking: “Isn’t this just you being conditioned?”
Maybe it is. But then I also see other publishers have “their own thing” going so I eventually end up rating a company’s effort by what I have come to expect of them.
So in my mind there is a full list of companies and what how they usually go about things. I could even write it down here, but that would go too off-topic. Almost every one of them has a “weird thing” going, whether that’s to just throw annual releases out (EA, Ubisoft) or to put really deep effort into a project to just randomly drop it and revive it a decade later (Sega, Square Enix, Capcom) just to name two examples. And each of them usually has their own kink to it, too. It’s really weird how corporate culture and personal hubris comes together to create these weird “company personalities”.
Take Sega for instance:
Summary
They will usually surprise release something on short-notice, lacking much of a pre-release marketing plan. They will receive some praise for the game they released, but fail break the AAA sales numbers they desired because of their lacking marketing. So they will say to themselves “This was good, but not as spectacular as we thought” and then drop the project, going radio silent on it. It will feel as if they never even worked on it, no press releases, no comments, nothing.
Then some odd 8 years later someone in management will say “Remember that thing we did? People liked that?” and then they repeat that cycle, endlessly staying in the “meh” sales range for their video game releases, staying afloat but seemingly getting nowhere with it.
That’s just the first other example that comes to mind where some weird hubris inside a company leads to irrational and weird behavior for their corporate culture.
So I rate Fatshark with the “Fatshark cycle” in mind, Electronic Arts releases with the “EA annual squeeze”, Ubisoft with the “Ubisoft Update Plan”, Sega with the “Sega IP necro”, etc.
Seems to be hardly any company left that does things fully by the old way, which is to just release a finished game and then have an expansion as the DLC and the continue the franchise with a new follow-up release that improves on the formula. CDProjekt Red was there, but then they messed it up with Cyberpunk and having to sell out for the ESG thereafter.
I am not satisfied with DT at all and FatShark has lost me as a customer. It’s the same comedy of errors that happened with V1, V2 and now DT. I’m so sick and tired of overlooking the issues and hoping in a year or so FatShark will get around to dealing with the community’s pain points.
Disappointed.
Fatshark prioritized the completely wrong things in the beginning and refused to listen to the playerbase and the complaints we had back then. Roadmap they had hasn’t been followed at all, no new classes has been added (and it was supposed to be one new per 3 months), crafting now exist (wow) but it’s awful… there’s just way too much randomness involved in every step of the way.
I’ve 30’d two classes (Sharpshooter and Ogryn) and there’s no reason to play them anymore. Compared to V2 where I am still playing legend FOR FUN on classes I have nothing to unlock or optimize anymore. Darktide has a spark somewhere but the flame flicker and die too fast.
It’s like Fatshark just saw what made V2 popular, threw that crap out of the door and rebuilt everything on the ground up to make things as miserable as possible.
The game is…nowhere near what I thought it would be. I left Vermintide 2 expecting to step into Darktide and seeing all the wonderful progression they made being carried over. But no. The only thing I prefer in Darktide is the setting. No solo play, with bots, which is want I want to play most. No storyline. RNG drops and loot system. Crap cosmetics. I don’t know…I’m getting depressed now.
No need to be depressed. I mix it up with old and other PvE games.

I just saw this on steam 75% off. Is it worth it? I heard they stopped all development on it. There a lot of RNG?

Zero RNG. XP grants new weapons/attachments as you level up. Development ceased within a year.
I could write a book why you should not buy it. But that 75% discount speaks for itself when it only released on steam like yesterday.
If I said to you if your Vet dies during mission and unable to extract and forced you to choose another class. How would you feel? 1 year they never listened to what players wanted over a simple mechanic they thought as “fun”. It’s fun to lose your character for a period and be forced to choose another class for next mission. OH you’ve lost all your characters, here you still have that Level 1 Zealot left to use.
Enough said of the worst mechanic.
Alright thanks I will steer clear lol.
Aliens Fireteam Elite has hardcore characters, but only after you hit level 20 on a normal character.
My 2 cents:
when i’m browsing games on steam:
maybe i could launch a game on deep rock galactic!
darktide? pfff…meh
tldr: i don’t have fun on darktide
ooh by the way i’m still waiting for informations about the new classes…the ones that should come every 6 months!

Actually they were supposed to be released quarterly so 1 class per 3 months not 6.

I’m surprised by how many people are still absolutly not satisfied. I would say the gameplay loop alone make it worth the price if not the following.
Mate the whole forum is full of poeple who have nothing else to do but complaining all day long about the game and / or vent on it caused by RL bs obviously.
I´m pretty sure a lot here spent even more time in the forum than playing the actual game. Or that those 40bucks poeple have ~1000h playtime.
Such polls mean nothing. The gameplay has always been satisfying, which is the most important thing in such games. It´s just that poeple prefer to complain about everything these days instead of having fun cause of reasons.
You’ve got it all wrong. We complain BECAUSE we love playing the game.
Most of the complaints are about things that gate people from playing the game or things that make the experience worse aka crafting, map selection, lack of solo play/shitty bots ai, poor performance etc.
Note solo play, map selection and crafting would literally take 1 day to change into something everyone would like. Its not like we’re asking them to redesign the entire morningstar.
I think it is well worth its 40€
However, I am not satisfied with the game as a whole and would be glad to pay more money if it meant more content and more challenge/difficulty
tbh, gameplay is great when all of below are met:
- lag does bot cause missed shots
- you have top end rig
- you find t5+ map
- you skip crafting experience
Based on our VT2 experiences, Darktide is a subpar Tide game. The “live” service model has been so far a disaster as it just highlights the worst Fatshark’s qualities: buggy and infrequent content drops. Have I had fun during my 800+ hours? Of course. Could this have been a far better experience? Absolutely.
just out of curiousity how long did the first map pack in v2 take?
i can’t remember, would be funny tho if darktide took longer
i mean talk about live service worthy content
that literally the only positive about live service, the constant stream of content…
