Something i believe would be good to add for free with the marsy-bois

so, due to Skitarii being added, i think this is a good opportunity to add more to the weapons, and i don’t just mean more weapons in general. see, the game was originally going to have a weapon modification system, it does have that now, but it’s not very in depth. so here’s how i think it could be made better.

once Skitarii are released, you could make it so that we can change the sights and special activation of our guns, not giving all of them special ammo and bayonets, but allowing all of them to have flashlights or just a bash. the specifics are below. also, please note that the modifications are specifically just for the ranged weapons.

every weapon would be allowed customization at the same level you unlock the shrine of the omnissiah, the reason being you can only customize them there. furthermore, some specials and sights would be excluded, the braced guns all being unable to use sights, but most being perfectly fine to use the bash, torch, push and bayonet. the specific weapons excluded from sight modifications are the stub revolver and heavy laspistol. the specific weapons excluded from weapon special modifications would be the plasma gun, flamer and all staves.

you would have to unlock modifications for your weapons by getting to higher trust levels. the first you unlock is the torch, the last is the bayonet. not every weapon can use every modification, but all of them can use the torch in one way or another. for instance, the revolvers and pistols just have you using a shoulder mounted torch rather than one on your weapon, a gun with a shield would have the torch mounted on the shield, the gun smashing into the shield to turn it on.

for the weapons that can’t use most modifications, i’ll just list the ones they CAN use. Bolters can use the light and sights. flamer can use the light. helbore can use the bash, light and sights. revolver can use the push and light.

the reason i think this is a good addition to the game is because the current modification just isn’t very fleshed out and could be made better through this. it doesn’t seem like it’d take as much effort as a class, so it could be released some time after as a mini-QoL update and it’d allow the players to experiment with things to see what they like most and can make some weapons more viable for things like lights out missions where only weapons with torches are the most effective.

the reason i think that having all specials be attached to specific guns isn’t a great idea is because it forces players to use guns they don’t like if they want to play at their most effective during certain missions, for instance, i’m not a fan of the rifles but i’m forced to use them for lights out if i want to be able to see and perform effectively on higher difficulties. this fixes that by making it so that i can keep my powerful build but i still lose out on a valuable ability, that being the push of my pistol or the special ammo of my shotgun, but letting me change off of the torch or push or special ammo so i have something like the bash or a stab. plus, this is something a lot of people actually do want and it could get people to use and expariment with weapons they otherwise wouldn’t due to not having a special action that they’re fond of.

This is just not something that will ever happen4

Wild Dream but I think weapon customization should be a vet exclusive thing

Its already in the game and will never be turned on officially.
Just like modifiers will never be released or reintroduced after they’re thrown in as an “event” and then forgotten.
Or the boss that’s been 100% functional in the game since launch and never actually enabled.
Why? because fatshark doesnt care, and neither does majority of the players.
Fatshark only cares about selling a few skins every 4-8 months. They literally said so themselves they dont really care about you playing the game, only care about you coming back every so often when new content releases so that you buy the new skins.

Only 2-4 people (excluding me) ever actually mention releasing modifiers. And during its discovery only about a dozen people talked about enabling the 100% functional and already developed weapon modification.

If you want weapon modifications you’ve to download the mod that turns it on.
Maybe when the “stop killing games” thing happens and fatshark will be legally forced to create offline/local mode will we get a “free modifiers” mod.

it’s not retroactive that, it will only apply to the newest games once the law is there but not for old games before that law.

RIP then i guess

If you mean the Toxgryn while it had a “complete” model in game, iirc it doesn’t have any animation, vfx and VA Work,

So it can’t really be said it is 100% functional

Oh, didnt know that. I swear when i look back in my memory i remember clear as day it had attacking animations and all.
Fleshy brains as reliable as always…

I could’ve swore the weapons customization mod guy had said that he did a lot of work to get it working and that the stuff he did find wasn’t really usable all that much.

How FS treats the event modifier really confuses me. Almost all of them get turned into a Havoc modifier but that just means a majority of players will never see them again. Off the top of my head only the Radio guy (wasn’t he supposed to be added to the spawn list at some point?) and the current totem event haven’t made it to Havoc; you could also count the Ogyrn spam event but that’s just regular Havocs. When was the last time the maelstrom modifier list was expanded?

i’m sure he put a ton of work into it, but you can’t change any assets in darktide modding yet. i know he did some funny stuff like using bullets as scopes, but 90% of the things only work in his mod because weapons are built from the ground up to be fully modular. which is a solid chunk of the work that was needed to pave the way for weapon customization, all done by fatshark.

i’m guessing they had/have devtools to actually use that modular system themselves and the modder basically just made his own interpretation of those. same for texture system for cosmetics and the other mod that lets you paint/mix stuff. 100% fatshark does the same thing with a tool of their own

The thing about weapon customization is it’s already in the game. It will never be added, however, because of reasons unknown (probably because GW changed their mind as to altering the appearance of their weapons)

There are other things, such as mission modifiers never being reused, but I think this is just a gross mismanagement of information and resources on FatShark’s part.

Yea, it seems Hired Gun will be the only 40k game ever with extensive weapon customization. Too bad the enemy AI in that game is so bad that it makes DT’s look impressive.

I would expect it on Hive Scum, too, if we’re talking thematics.

Random, but surprised we didn’t get a single version of the Autopistol with a scope to be like Snake Plissken’s.
