Some of the new penances really make me want a way to solo

Until now I’ve never felt the need for it, but… there are so many penances now that require you to kill elites/specials in a specific way, you’re all in competition with each other for those kills now.

You said you didn’t want to implement a scoreboard because it would bring more “toxicity” and circle chasers? Congratulations, the new penances are doing exactly that!

What exactly is it, that you are complaining about?

It sounds like you are complaining about other people actually killing things.

Frankly I disagree. A lot of this issue is mitigated by playing higher difficulties.

if you want to progress peneances faster, simply start playing auric mael and enjoy the elite and special density. If that’s too hard for you (which is absolutely fine, not everyone has to be the best at every game) you can take your time and do it on lower difficulties with less elites but at a slower pace.

This isn’t a race and no one is forcing you to do anything. While I’m generally a guy to give FS mountains of sht, this one isn’t their fault.

Except for the scoreboard that is still sorely missing.

If you want, we can team up on them:

Yeah, solo matchmaking would do the thing, but it’s unlikely to happen anytime soon.

Do not even think about solo option. This would destroy the game which is meant to be co-op multiplayer game. Play with mods to solo and do not destroy game for others because your egoistic nature. Period.

Yeah, official Discord definitely shines in cooperation these days :+1:

Glad to see my experience is different from some of yours, really. Maybe it just wasn’t good days, but lately I’ve seen people complaining in chat about other players making them “waste” their rocks, throwing knives, or (judgement? marksman?) stacks.

True that it mostly happened during low diff missions, when I was just farming for scriptures/grims, haven’t seen it happen in Heresy/Damnation.

What is that even supposed to mean?
“How dare you attack an enemy, that i was also about to attack?!”
What is wrong with these guys?

If someone was continuously focusing down Brain Rupture targets, that would be something different, because the shiny blue head is very much visible to everyone.
When a head has been glowing for the past second, you probably do not need to shoot that guy. Some people still do this repeatedly, and i completely understand anyone who gets mad about that.

But throwing knifes and rocks? When anyone is using those, there is nothing that you could react to, really. Do those people think that you see the knife/rock flying, analyze the trajectory, anticipate the target and then perform an MLG pro gamer quickscope headshot to quickly steal that kill?

At least some penances need to require a bit of effort if you want the rewards to have any value in showing them off.
Personally I don’t care but i know a lot people do, some for the brag, some just for the challenge, these systems keeps them hooked in playing.

Point to Fingeris.

Set. Match.

Yeah it’s a good thing no co-op game ever has had a solo mode, that would just be disatrous.

to be fair i never use voice when playing with random strangers.

amongst my buddies and me theres decades long familiarity so their voices feel “ingame”( dont know how to better describe it ) but some high pitched or otherwise chatter that doesnt befit the characters i see ingame, no thank you.

this and the fact that there’s no language filter when things get heated, the guys know how to take it and give back in kind.

so noones gotta pay any mind about some “feelings” getting hurt.

apart from that, in all those failed auric maelstrom matches, callouts to randoms wouldnt have changed a thing, for everyone knows best and isnt following even sound advice.

when i tell my buddies to stop they dont ask for the how and why for minutes but pull through.

randos rather play the blame game for longer than the actual fail took.

guardians… please forgive me

I’ve wanted a solo mode since launch. They promised one and then never delivered. A solo mode (obviously provided they made bots more interesting and helpful than these dumb useless level 1 veterans) would let so many more socially anxious people play the game at their own pace. It would solve so many problems. Ammo hogs, speedrunners, Alt-F4ers, medicae wasters, daemonhost trippers, book bypassers, genuine harassment and griefing, and idiots who think “learn to shove” is an acceptable answer for why they don’t rescue teammates when they’re a shield ogryn and no amount of malice difficulty poxwalkers can stop them from going where they want to go, yeah YOU learn to shove, assclown!

ahem. Yeah solo mode, would just completely remove all of that from the experience. Not to mention there are still a lot of people who don’t like being teamed up with an Assail psyker or a veteran with those garbage smoke grenades. It’d be wonderful. It’d be quite a different game though of course. Just like in Vermintide, playing with a team of bots requires a different set of skills, and can be a lot more difficult in many cases, but if that’s your bag, it seems really weird to me that the game doesn’t include it.

Not everybody has people they can play with.

I agree, but first I must say that I have completed the reward track and am now working on the Map Tour penances. As of right now, I have 4570 points.

All in all, and obviously this is just my own opinion, I believe that although the penance update was much needed, it was poorly executed because it mostly appeals to Darktide sweat lords like me.

Another poor move by Fatshark was setting the chest reward at 4500.
Why? Because many of the penances are either private or require you to be at the Auric/Maelstrom Level, getting there will be extremely difficult for someone who is not a sweat lord like me.

The quantity of kills required to complete the reward track and the gimmicks you must use are the other problems.

For example, you must throw smoke grenades at every group, rush ahead of everyone to get Shroud Backstab kills, rush ahead to prevent others from “stealing” your kills when switching between Weapon Specialists, mag dump everything on the map to earn Lucky Bullet, and—this is the worst one, in my opinion—keep crouching and move only by dodging through the entire map to complete Marksman’s Focus.

I can see what Fatshark was attempting to accomplish here by presenting several playstyle options, but in an objective-based team game, the quantity of kills needed for various penances and the way some of the penances work mechanically make the players who carry them out a liability to the teams success.

The penance update was a excellent idea, however it has to be better executed if it ever gets updated in the future.

I will reverse this and say that in Auric Maelstrom level, the majority of players play with very efficient builds to counter whatever modifier the director throws at you: see that juicy group consisting of Ragers, Bulwarks, and Crushers? OOOPS!

They were killed in just three seconds.

Lots of penances are best done in lower difficulty or ordinary Damnation since they are faster and involve less risk to complete the map.

We must be running different mael games then. Most people I see run random builds. So do I in order to test weird builds.

Your penance points don’t say much about efficiemcy without hours played.

Sadly, I am unable to display the number of hours I have spent playing penances—just my entire playtime, but you can ask @Khorne_Dawg who can confirm that I no-lifed the Penances.

I can somewhat of agree with people testing out random builds in Maelstrom, but you have to remember that most players who are at least level 300 plus are competent enough to play “bad” loadouts and still clutch.

I’ve been doing som regular Damnation games lately to speed up some of the class penances grinds and the player skill differential between Damnation and Maelstorm is significant.

Here’s my total stats:

Well here’s mine for comparison:

I was at 650 hours before the penance update. And after it dropped I exclusively played Auric Maelstrom/Auric Damnation quickplay.

I’d agree somewhat. I’ve seen lvl 600 and above players barely getting elite/special kills so I always had ample time to get my penances in. As you can see the class penances are done for me as well. It might sound arrogant but I never had an issue getting top or most elite/special kills even with the dumbest builds. Not to mention that every class has at least one weapon that allows you to dominate elite kills.

For me I still find auric damnation/mael the easiest way to do penances, simply due to the sheer elite density. Especially for Veteran penances. Getting a clumped up clown car spawn of 20 gunners 3-4 times in a single mission is like a christma’s persent almost.
