People are griefing lobbies over trying to complete their Penances.
They’re supposed to be achievments and medal of honors, not medals of shamelessness.
Had a game with a Psyker that joined midway, somehow this guy kept dying over and over and over, was throwing himself to death at elites/specials/whatever. Just so happens that this guy was trying to complete the penance in which you need to kill 3 elites by dying. Said he “got it” (his penance is our guess) then left right away. Like WTF??? HELLO???
So yes, please do something about those penances, this is just complete BS.
only way they can fix that is by adding private/solo option also fatshark has a official discord server for darktide and in my experiences there most people actually play the game and don’t do this achievement crap recommended you check it out.
I guess some of that stuff is meant to “just happen at some point”.
But if you see what you have to do there’s always gonna be people who actively persue it.
I can understand that explaining what you want to do everytime you join a game is really annoying.
I haven’t had these kinds of penances with ogryn yet, where you basically have to do bad to get an achievement.
But I imagine I wouldn’t explain it everytime either, I would just try to do it like the person OP describes.
Maybe it would clear things up a bit if you could select a penance and make if visible for others what you’re trying to accomplish without talking.
I think it’s great when nice sinks are on the horizon as a reward for hard challenges. Just unlocking stuff in the ingame store for a certain currency is boring and has no value at all in my opinion.
But the way challenges are designed and implemented is sometimes questionable… when they, for example with the Psycher, require deliberate overloading and thus you endanger the mission completion for the group, because you just knock yourself out AND then you don’t even have to complete the mission to get the achievement. Especially the necessity of mission completion distinguishes Darktide from Vermintide challenges and unfortunately favors this toxic behavior… At this point I must also say that I myself have already given runs out of hand to try a challenge, but with a group of 3 or 2 and we played the map from the beginning, only unfortunately I sacrificed time of other players who joined the mission, because there are simply no private lobbies to tackle such challenges without having 4 friends available.
Penances need some major rework. They need to be team-oriented instead of being actively anti-team. Or at the very least they should be challenged that someone can complete without deliberately screwing over your other teammates.
They should have expected this with how absurdly difficult some of them are, how bad the uniforms look until you start unlocking, the need to be “unique”, completionists or just for bragging rights. They’ve been told about it since the beta practically started, and yet the only “official” word that I’ve heard is that they are supposedly fine with the difficulty because reasons. Someone else will have to chime in and share what Hedge said, but it was pretty dumb, imo.
I feel a little bad for sharing it because most of the time Hedge has been a great CM. He usually does his job well and communicates and it wasn’t my intention to stir up resentment towards him in the community. I was just honestly shocked by what felt like an insulting and unhelpful response to a genuine concern.
I’m stunned that no one from Fatshark has actually addressed these concerns yet, considering how basically everyone - both here and on the Reddit - agree that the penances are complete nonsense, aside from the occasional diehard “ThEy’Re SuPpOsEd To Be DiFfIcUlT” white knight.
Absolutely insane that Hedge thinks that penances are okay. This is the same Hedge that said scoreboards were removed because they were too toxic right?
How can you remove scoreboards (something that can, but does not always enable toxicity) but leave in Penances that actively reward uncooperative behavior, griefing, and toxicity?
You’re talking about a company here that has also said that Vermintide 2 is designed for 100h of playtime…
FatShark is unfortunately more or less disconnected from the community’s opinion on a lot of things. That’s not always a bad thing to keep the thread going, but when it comes to things like skins, progression and this item RNG BS it unfortunately often feels to me like they are blind on all ears and eyes as far as that is concerned. These sometimes somewhat provocative comments on such topics, like what Fraxinus posted, are nothing new either.
Valve noted when they first added class achievements to TF2 that feedback was the more specific and niche things were frustrating, and they saw players would try to ‘game’ it by going onto low pop servers are ‘cooping’ things. Which is why after the Medic related ones, the other classes got ones that were mostly generic milestones (Deal X damage total) or reinforced class mechanics (set 4 people on fire with the pyro’s flamethrower) ect.
Veteran is probably the best example of these; there’s some that are niche (long bomb) and there’s some that feel unfair/niche (take no melee damage-good luck with damage bleeding through) but most of them reinforce playing the class well: get X weak-point hits in volley fire mode being one of them. Wish more were like that, there’s already some (Ogryn counter-charging a plague ogryn for example)
Yes its pretty annoying. Joined a Heresy and was told to sit there because this person wanted to get some penance. I just quit the match. Penances should be similar to Vermintide 2 where it takes a group effort of playing the game and completing missions.
