There is nothing to notice here, citizen, move along.
I SAID MOVE ALONG revvs the chainsword
Seriously though, hilarious as it is to have a pocket sniper rifle, it’s only reaches meme damage when you build specifically for it. I also think it’s still balanced by its’ shortcomings: ammo pool, reload speed, requiring headshots to really shine. It’s not a simple “I WIN” button.
It does have a really nice niche - on Zealot it performs admirably as a quick “priority threat removal” tool, but you have to take good aim and make a conscious choice about what you shoot it at.
That being said I 100% agree that the model should be changed to a bolt pistol. Then everything makes perfect sense.
I build the revolver around crit and weakpoints and I can only 2 shot them (on damnation). Still pretty annoying when you only have 5 shots before needing to reload one bullet at a time afterwards. Maybe there’s some build where you’re even more focused on ranged damage and crits and weakpoints, and making the revolver do more damage against carapace as a perk to accomplish this but I don’t think it’s worth the investment honestly. I just carry kraks.
I think the revolver is in a good place. I have seen plasma’s and autoguns perform on a similar power level when playing with other vets. Not to mention void strike and other weapons outside of vet.
Controversial, but it’s fine IMO? You gotta minmax it to get to that point, which unless you’re doing it with a commando vet set up you’re only going to do well otherwise at T5+ if you’re at John Wick/Jack Bauer tier. Not much point to nuking 5 specials/elites if 11 more plus crushers, ragers, and a horde are charging you and you have no reload talents on or a competent dps/horde clear psyker on the team. Being able to make it work despite it’s glaring volume of fire weakness is worth being rewarded like this, maybe a slight carapace dmg nerf, either flat or for mid to long range? The weapon, like the plasma is good for making up for lower DPS on VoC or executioner’s + commando + WS builds. I don’t think it warrants tuning, unless someone here can show me some borderline uber xxXhaxxor69Xxx numbers or gameplay vids with minmaxed set ups.
And I have to constantly revive 75% of them, 20% do ok, but barely contribute, and the last 5% shoot like Jack Bauer, but still aren’t God Emperor touched Psyker oppressive to play with. It’s fine.
That Revolver in 40k has to be around a .50 cal so its gonna be a pretty brutal weapon. Hell even a .357 out of a standard barrel would be extremely strong against things like a mutant just from what we can gather in real life data on what it can do to a bear. If they could make the bolter have better carapace countering properties there would be a clear difference between bolter and .50 ammunition. Which it should. the revolver shouldnt be hitting carapaced enemies that hard unless it is a critical. But then the revolver will just not be viable anymore.
They should have an Executioner Pistol instead of a standard bolt pistol so they can throw the mold farther away from the revolver and still have something cool. It’s a bolt pistol with a needler built in. Could also use scopes, but then again the entire game could use this system being added.
And the revolver should have been fine with more ammo, but for some reason it needs to be massively killy on top of hugely disruptive (high cleave/suppression effect and also knocks most enemies like a kickback). It was always something supposed to be more of a hybrid play style, but now I see dumb vets dodge-reloading while shooting mutants with it. Probably more popular atm because of how boringly overdue for a weapon content add this game is. That was always my reason for using the revolver - its unique.
Neither of which has any business penetrating carapace armor and killing ogryn. These are S3 weapons behaving like S7-8 weapons with AP - or even AP -1 behaving like AP -4 weapons. Its gross and I hate it.
So are power weapons, which is why we get knock offs scavenged by brunt. The game has already given us room for watered down versions of cooler things. None of these are befitting a last resort penal battalion. I want it all, hiver weapons, tools, old world weapons and the rest.
Right now combining the blessings of surgical for a guaranteed crit and combing hand cannon for up to 80% rending means you can absolutely decimate with the revolver
Nothing really holds a candle to it for ranged damage when it comes to penetration.
I’m really looking forward to seeing the new wave of complaints about Weapon Specialist, and to a lesser extent, Focus Target, when the revolver inevitably gets nerfed.
