I love the effort behind this, but I’m not sure these options paint an accurate picture of what is/isn’t strong/weak with the revolver. Cleave not being in the “focus” category feels like an important omission to me. And Speedloader currently doesn’t feel like it’s strong enough to deserve a slot in the “drawbacks” category.
There’s a lot of nuance to the revolver (like the utility of being able to load-and-fire a single round fairly quickly), which I think is why it’s inspired such a long and heated thread about its current state.
I used the revolver in the last patch. It was more rare to see it before the last buff, I’ll admit. But I’d still use it for the utility it offers my zealot. I think it really only gets crazy strong on the vet rn.
I haven’t tried the revolver with my Vet, but I’ve been running it on my Zealot for a long time so I can quick swap to it and oneshot trappers/bombers/snipers
The revolver is the single strongest weapon in the game right now, the people saying its fine for a pistol to out perform a plasma gun are actually unhinged. I know the revolver is super fun to use and I am glad that it is strong and I want it to stay strong. But there’s no good reason for it to be as strong as it is. It could retain its one tap breakpoint on everything human scale and still be an incredible weapon boardering on OP and a top pick while leaving room for other weapons to be valuable. It currently does everything and all you need to do is pick up the odd ammo box or run survivalist.
For clarity - it is the strongest not just because it has a ton of supremely useful breakpoints that kill the most critical targets at the appropriate ranges, and can bust armor. But because it does so with no time drawback. Unlike the bolter or the plasma gun or even the rifles, the weapon draws instantly, ADS’s and fires almost instantly. A good shot can put down a key threat to the party before anyone else can react. I know this because I am the man who always leaves the game with most specialists and disablers killed when I run the revolver. I kill them all. ALL OF THEIR SKULLS ARE MINE. I DON’T HAVE TO SHARE.
For me (as I use it), the revolver is for taking out high priority specials and elites. I would be fine with the revolver doing less against ogyrn enemies and maulers in general. Ragers and gunners, and most specials (maybe not mutants) I think is where it’s good. To be able to quickly draw it in melee, shoot through the horde (and sometimes allies) and hit a high priority target or few, before going back to melee, and eventually reload when it’s safe/necessary to do so.
I have seen plasmas and autoguns do more damage and get more elite/special kills. Especially monsters. Especially sustained when there’s more than 5 at a time.
Base carapace penetration down to ~10% on close range 6% at far range.
Hand-Cannon blessing toned down to 40% rending on crit at Tier IV.
What should remain:
Cleave should remain high.
Super fast draw time.
Pinpoint Accuracy.
Easy Special breakpoints.
Reload time and ammo supply should remain the same.
This would make the weapon still perform best at special removal (remaining faster than Helbore, Plasma, and MGXII) making it a great anti-special/pocket sniper option even in the hand of Zealot/Psyker.
With Hand-Cannon only getting toned down instead of deleted/reworked the Hand-Cannon + Surgical combo will still be available to build it out as a generalist option, while not being an absolutely busted combo.
Simple as. You guys are currently on the trajectory of:
Discover new meta → Complain about meta → Meta gets overnerfed → Discover new meta
I was under the impression we don’t want a Blizzard “balancing” fiasko in this game.
If you don’t break the cycle now, you will encourage every good thing to have ever been good to get nerfed into the ground.
Que Vermintide 2 with everyone running the Swift Slaying Trait, because everything else is virtually useless (wasn’t always the case).
I don’t want that replicated in Darktide. Please stop making nerf threads.
If you can land headshots consistently its really good. I find myself taking 3 shots to the bkdy of gunners sometimes though. (Maybe I’m hitting a limb some of the time)
What makes it crazy good is its punchthrough, to me. Like, if i can kill multiple shotgunners… what should plasma be doing?
Revolver can stay strong until we get other handguns. Example bolt pistol and plasma pistol.
Currently we only have 3 hand guns and I think they are balanced correctly and give different playstyles.
It is really annoying after time to time some folks with pitchforks and torches come and want to nerf everything into oblivion. After you check the total balance between weapons and you notice that “wooden club is stronger then a damn chainsaw”. It is simply mindblowing.
I’d rather see the weapon bit overturned than garbage since it still requires pretty decent headshotting to get most out of it. That said 2-3 shotting crushers in such a reliable way is something I don’t think revolver should be capable of doing.
To me the weapon is and always has been instant quickdraw deletion against specials and gunner type elites if you got the aim for it.
Ogryn enemies has never been the primary reason for me to pick revolver.
