Skulls 2024 Summary: Announcing Secrets of the Machine God (June 25, 2024)

This. They fostered this overanalytical semantics douchebaggery by using it first.

I remember Hedge deflecting by changing the definition of a ‘lie’ into ‘it’s simply not true anymore’ when caught. Or them referring to semantics in their news posts promising features.

They brought this upon themselves.

I’m going to repeat what I have been saying and I think “dammed if you do and dammed if you don’t is a really” weird way to put it when the carnival was a fairly positively received update and had communication, proper previews, and a good amount of content. People generally also really liked the level design threads.

I think the problem I’m having with this repeated “dammed if you do, dammed if you don’t” idea is that it feels like a way remove any responsibility on Fat Shark’s end. They can do good work, they have had good updates, the problem is that we got told basically nothing for months and no one can seem to read the room that their player base is frustrated and tired.

Going :gear::pick:is not a replacement for a preview. We got no screenshots of anything new beyoud a short fly through of a map that had nothing else going on besides a voice over. People get upset when the playerbase turns to wild speculation but when we literally have nothing to work off of or discuss then where does it leave us?

Factorio had like 5+ years break of content, and they almost have 0 haters, did people wanted more content at that time? Absolutely, however when they said “we’re happy with the state of the game and don’t plan on adding content for the foreseeable future” people respected it. Why? Because they kept every and all promises, curated expectations diligently, pretty much never disappointed the community, and communicated really well.

It’s almost like telling the truth and delivering on your promises works or something dunno.

It’s not difficult to appease a player base. Give them cool shinies, listen to their concerns, and treat them like human beings, and most of them will be chill.

I guess Fatshark’s CEO is too busy fixing the break room coffee maker to sign off on comms or anything poor Catfish (seriously, it’s been months, did she die?) wants to improve the situation.

Because there is going to be preview with the Dev Blog as they’ve previously said.

So are we talking an actual preview or is this just going to be a repeat of the warhammer skulls event where everyone was going “no guys it’s fine, there will be a trailer” and they spent more time taking about the card game than showing anything of substance?

I honestly don’t know what to expect at this point.

Will be the same things every update has gotten shortly before it being up

It sucks that we’ve all been so bait-and-switched that we expect it now.

Like, logically I knos to expect a devblog but the word “logically” has so frequently began so many poor assumptions about Fatshark management’s willingness to communicate.

Sometimes I think the entire company is held back by some crucial person’s anxiety condition.

For technical reasons, the Dev Blog will completely on accident carefully coincide with a press release sent to all gaming press, in relation with some festival or gaming event.

(I think I’ve uses this exact gif talking about Steam forums before. Consider this a sequel since those are so popular nowadays.)

Steam forums are horrible places even when any game has incredibly positive reviews. I wouldn’t use them as a bar for community relations lol.

World would be a better place if they never existed.

She’s apparently pretty sick atm and is not working. There was a thread talking about it awhile ago.

That’s why Strawhat is the one posting stuff, and maybe why we got a couple of community mods.

I wouldn’t exactly characterize launch communication as “well intended” in many cases.
You yourself wrote the statement where the FOMO store was characterized as “it’s that way because players would be confused if all items were there”. I don’t know if you actually came up with that and I don’t expect you to clear it up and throw someone else under the bus either, but I think it’s impossible to say that Fatshark communication doesn’t have its fair share of straight up bad actions in it. There’s also the whole array of excuses for the aquila pack stuff, for example, which didn’t come from the CM team at all but still contribute to this.
People in this case weren’t mad because it was bad news, they were mad because it was some pretty transparent lies. “Damned if you do, damned if you don’t” doesn’t apply here because they chose to lie. Coulda just not lied, you know?

I’m just saying the characterization that all Fatshark has given in the past is “honest bad news” and got outcries for it is very off.

Yeah I know, but I’m more seriously concerned now. It’s getting scary.

Maybe she’s better and just waiting to make a triumphant return with a trailer that blows us all away and a crafting update that makes both Brosgw and Cerebrophage happy.

That is certainly what it is, right?

Aw don’t do that. You’ve been a very interesting poster to post with. I do agree that we sometimes get a bit snarky, but eh, that’s just the flavor of this community - makes us stand out. Just ignore the snark.

I thought you said stank for a second, which would still be equally applicable.

I’d like to think we’re all a bunch of nice, clean, well groomed, peoples =)

(If we get a good crafting system I’ll consider putting everyone’s pfps on this)

I like to imagine it’s like the writing of the Constitution, where everyone comes in a distinguished, well dressed and groomed individual and after hours of arguing and screaming at each other in stuffy clothes, in the middle of Summer, in a Pennsylvanian building with no AC, leaves a sweaty, disheveled mess after nothing got done.

I’m sure there’s probably some sort of French governmental form debate from roughly the same time period that suits the “environment” we have here better but this is the one I know of.
