Nah man, I got it for $5 and feel that’s a fair price for the game at this point. You can actually get a finished game with that $30. Hit reg is noticeably bad, maybe it’s not server side and something else but I definitely felt it in my gameplay experience.
In your position - that’s what I’d do tbf
I assume now gamepass is linked to steam that building characters on the game pass side isn’t a penalty ~ but if you’re liking it then a leap in platform to get a good price is better doing earlier than later.
I hold a mighty conviction that neither this developer nor this game is worth your time or money. Instead, I recommend to stay far away from this excretious product that’s been cynically discharged to market with no real regard for quality or assurance. To put it simply: play anything else but this; there’s better games out there that provide a superior experience compared to what Darktide provides - such as Vermintide 2, Hunt Showdown, Deep Rock Galactic, and Payday 2.
One of the worst things a person can inflict upon themselves is wasting time on a poorly made product then falling into the notorious sunk cost fallacy.
With all that said why do I not personally recommend Darktide. For starters, it’s developers have gained an irreputable reputation with their handling of feedback towards Darktide. This is important to mention because it concerns how receptive the game makers are towards community grievances. In these online driven experiences it’s imperative that game makers are quick to acknowledge issues as they arise within the community. If x players are having negative experience with y thing, and the developer either refuses to address said concern or ignores it altogether; then that spells disaster. As it implies that you, as a player, are not valued.
In addition to the above, the developer have a poor work ethic in sustaining this game’s longevity. For instance it’s been eight months since the game has released and in that period the developer has silently gone on multiple company wide holiday breaks during critical moments with no prior announcement. This has been devastating towards Darktide as it left players with a broken game with no remedy to the situation. Even now the game is plagued with issues while the game makers are enjoying themselves a lovely summer break.
Another thing is the sheer dishonesty that’s been put on display by Fatshark. There are many items to list - I recommend browsing through the popular topics in this forum to get an idea - but one that rustles my jimmies is how they turned the cash shop off in order to fix the game then later turning it back on, implying they’re satisfied with the game’s state, even though the game is still in a poor state as is evident by both the 55% steam rating and the recent negative reviews:
^you tell me if you’d be proud of this.
Now let’s talk about the actual game experience - it’s not good. Darktide’s foundational design is built upon this industry principal of metrics which is gained, in this game’s case, through cynical means. Retention, engagement, these are what drive the game’s design, not fun or giving players a good quality experience, but cynicism. Loot acquisition is gated behind RNG in order to prolong retention. Mission selection is gated behind RNG in order to force engagement. Nothing in this game is free from this blatant pessimistic design philosophy.
I beg of you play anything else but this.
^this
The game is worth whatever ~70 hours of fun game-time is worth to you.
Avoid if you are expecting a live service game in which to sink 100s/1000s of hours.
This game is pretty good, but a few flawed design philosophies, a pretty rocky launch with tech issues and some miscommunication have lead to the public reception you see here.
So, the game is good, the systems surrounding the core gameplay are pretty mid, the presentation (visuals + sound) are great.
It’s a good 7.5/10 game.
ay man, leave the community out of your opinions of the game, no one can change that
but thats unlucky
my unregistered hits only happens every so often during spamming or a massive horde
and ive never actually experienced being forcefully booted out of the game and into the character selection screen
I guess its noticeably worse in other areas of the same region/server/continent
Woah. It’s almost that thing @Harridas was talking about.
yeah and then again you go into server browser from Deeprock galactic, and you find minimum 15 host having some sort of “bigdic” “motherlover” “assGraper”, and 5 more named ElN*gro, or smshit.
its just a Tuesday in the internet lets be real.
I… what. You can’t be serious. That’s been something that’s been criticized with notable examples of it happening since it came out. Bonus points when the game is kind enough to reload your gun for you as it actively screws you over.
Going back and playing VT2 has been night and day in terms of how it feels and things getting eaten, even off host (And at least I have the option to host in the first place). I’ll give Darktide that much though, it did ultimately rekindle my interest in VT2.
It is server side. (And the servers are… not good)
Sounds like another Monday if playing COD Warzone. I swear they add proximity chat in Warzone really for toxic behaviour on purpose, why allow comms to enemy. It’s like reality TV shows where it stops being about show concept itself and more about aggression between people.
Now play Apex Legends…I don’t play it anymore but anyone toxic I would bait them into enemy team, laugh as they lose all their loot, explain how in life you should treat people same way online as in real life, probably real life they wouldn’t have guts as probably would get beat down, then disconnect and let them here the echoes my laughter as I leave. Yea I was a real a55hole in Apex Legends. Probably best I quit it.
Maybe I am lucky but I haven’t had anything as bad as that in Darktide over VoIP from someone.

Maybe since Darktide player count has dropped they should consider an update to VT2 and run some dedicated servers.
But hey if anyone here hasn’t played VT2. I see steam keys on reseller websites for £2. That’s real value for money. Just the base game is enough fun in itself.

Hitreg has always been pretty good for me as well. Might be something to do with particular servers or isps our something?

Good god no, the point was that VT2 feels significantly better than Darktide. The current servers are just the monkey’s paw answer to the people who would not stop haranguing them about servers for VT2, even years later. If it were an option, maybe, though I’d rather just see them implement host migration. That’s really all it needed.

Times it went to crap it was generally always for everybody. Example 1.
Example 3. Etc. Older videos but outside of total server melt downs the issues still remain.
They seem to have improved the total melt downs but as mentioned in the bonus post above (which includes a more recent set of examples), the hit reg issues still happen fairly commonly. They’re pretty subtle barring using heavy single shot weapons and whatnot so it can be easy to miss them if you’re using rapid fire or quicker melee weapons, and are significantly more common on high intensity+ damnation.
I suspect there’s multiple sources of it overall, some related to the game not handling anything higher than ~60ms or so very well (Which is… not an unreasonable latency to have), others related to poor netcode (See: Poxhounds), still others related to just flat out crap server quality.
As someone who uses the slug (shotgun) often, I can confirm that hit reg is pretty bad for a client-server FPS game in 2023.
Darktide is a bad game that actively feels awful to play for a multitude of reasons. There is zero reason to pick it up as things stand. By owning Vermintide 2 you already have a game that does 90% of few the positive aspects of Darktide as good or better.
Even if you really, really badly want a multiplayer 40k game Space Marine 2 is still slated for 2023 with 3 person campaign co-op. And it would have a to be an apocalyptic ****show to be worse than Darktide.
ngl, that comment made me question whether op is an existing bitter player who made this entire thread as a fake troll dig at fatshark using the “new player experience”
Maybe it is different on gamepass… but toxic communication is very rare in 1000+ hours, let alone 8 hours, as most darktide long time players will tell you. This game is just really really quiet in pubs in general. I’ve gone many hours without hearing a single person on voip, and only GGs in the evac, and I don’t think I have ever heard that level of toxicity either, it was always just sh*tting on skill and game ability.
But I suppose experiences like that don’t matter to those who are laser focused on demonising the fandom…
The internet is full of people, not all of whom are nice, good, or moral. Asking an organization to take on the role of censor is a faustian bargain. Just mute them and block them. Stop being afraid of mean words.

Stop being afraid of mean words.
Boss! I gots no edumication in wordology! All these words terrify me to the bone because I can’t read em’!

It has occurred to me that I could probably mod the game to replace voice lines (for myself) with AI generated voice lines of my choosing. I could even get other characters to call me by name instead of calling me Zealot
