Hello FatShark Forums! I wish to talk about the issue with enemy spam in Darktide, give constructive feedback and provide possible ideas for the developers to fix this problem.
After patch 13 happened and talent trees were introduced, a problem with balance arose as players became too powerful. The developers decided to balance it out by increasing AI director’s enemy spawn. This, while effective at first, caused issues that are still present to this day:

Hey FatShark! You know how people do not want to face a horde of Crushers in higher difficulties, so you buffed their HP and reduced their spawn rates?
Well, first of all they need further reduction to their spawn rates (and an unarmored/flak weakspot to make all weapons actually usable when it comes to killing them). In my opinion, you can go full on bonkers with the buffs (higher HP, stagger resistance, hit mass), make them true Chaos Warriors of DarkTide, if it means you can outright halve …

As a way to reduce enemy spam, FatShark is making an effort to differentiate the Moebian Sixth from the Admonition. They want the Scabs to fit the theme of an elite regiment who doesn’t need high numbers to be a challenge to the players compared to the less professional Dregs who are supposed to be strong in higher numbers.

I don’t think it’s controversial to say this, but Ogryns have to be louder than what they are right now. In VT2, Chaos Warrior had very distinct sound design so you could immediately tell when one was close. DT doesn’t have that. The sounds of Ogryns gets drowned out in the crowd, and we’re talking about big enemies that should be heard from afar.

I called for a nerf to things like Gold Toughness and DS because they are the reason we are so unkillable/too powerful, so the devs had to crank up the number of enemies being spawned to such a ridiculous point we have to face a horde of armor just to have some kind of challenge!
Hello FatShark Forums! I was leveling up a new character, playing at a lower difficulty to unlock higher levels. It was Malice and there weren’t that many enemies around. To have some amount of challenge, I was using gray weapons I automatically got when I first made the class. This made it so each Gunner, Mauler, Crusher etc. felt meaningful and threatening. But that kind of challenge is not fun. It removes any kind of meaningful skill expression from the game and it all just boils down to: “Horde of Crusher comes, get your Flame Staff ready to clean it all up. ”
That’s not fun, that’s chore. A chore that I do not want to do.
