Ruminating on the Upcoming Crafting Update

Then why did the devs say they want to make changes to it and why is it the most common complaint?

they didn’t do that, they said they wanted to address itemization, not crafting. the forums assumed it HAS to be about fixing the locks they hate so much and have been malding since. crafting’s likely not going to be touched, and they’re going to tweek drops.

Even if we assume itemization isn’t a broader term that encompasses crafting, what do you think they think is the issue with the “itemization” system? Do you agree there’s issues there? You seemed to think the whole process was perfect. So where are the pain points.

Also, people don’t put effort and time to try and make changes to a game they “hate” everyone’s here because they like it, or see the potential in it. Otherwise they would spend time elsewhere. There’s lots of games I hate. I refunded them and never spent another thought on them.

every time they’re worked on crafting, they told us they’re working on crafting. i don’t care about engaging your fantasy.

Ok, so don’t. I asked what YOU personally have issues with regarding “itemization”, divorced from crafting, and what you think Fatshark doesn’t like about the item acquisition systems.

you bootlickers are something else. Yes they promised a crafting overhaul. Of course people would be displeased if they didn’t deliver. You’re not particularily clever or clairvoyant for predicting that

Their own website says they want to avoid randomisation.

Hmm… You think… Something around the first week of October, maybe?

Just a guess…

This is the reason I do believe we never got the full thing thus far. Same for penances. What we have NOW is their true vision for penances, not what we got at the start.

Same will be true for crafting.
Other hints, other than their lipservice not matching up to reality thus far:
→ No red items in the game, but the code is prepared for 6th item level
→ Item level stops at 380 for weapon stats and 550 max lvl (400 / 600 makes more sense)
→ Max Curio values are 21% Max HP / 17% Toughness / 3 Stamina (25% / 20 % / 4)
→ Max ammo capacity for curios in code, but not ingame (would also cap at 20%)

Many indications for Crafting never having been fully completed so far.

Why so specific. Know something I don’t?

I believe I might have said this exact same thought to you, or at least someone else in a different thread, when comparing VT 2 crafting to DT. But I believe it’s similar to the class system. It wasn’t ready for release, so they took the way VT 2 implemented it and used it as a stop gap until they were done with their envisoned system.

Oh I’m 100% with that sentiment. It makes all the sense. We KNOW they had to rush it out the door for whatever reason. We see publishers behave in that way a lot now.

“Get it out, get it out! We can then still invest more time when the money came in”

This along with the rise of subscription models everywhere suggests that companies are getting more anxious to have regular income streams and shudder at the thought of the old prpduct release model (make finished thing → release it → pray to the heavens and algorithms it sells).

Using cash shops and similiar options allows them to sidestep that a little. That would explain a lot and go well with your thesis.
We didn’t get Darktide, we got VT 2.5 with Darktide assets and a lot of placeholders, but functional enough to be masked as the full game. Just now 1-2 years after release do we get the finalized vision. It’s a bit sad, but at least Fatshark gets there eventually instead of abandoning it all.

Yeah despite what they may have said, this is clearly a placeholder system.

I’m fine with them finishing the game bit by bit like this, I just hope they don’t rush the individual parts like they have with most of the penance update stuff e.g. bugged penances, no care given to how the titles would deteroriate matchmaking, some penances are absurdly tuned, most of the cosmetics are low effort reskins etc. If they implement the crafting/itemization overhaul in a similar fashion then I worry

I wouldn’t be surprised if the crafting takes a bit anyway, as it’s basically ripping out an entire core system in the game and redoing it from the ground up

I personally think the game was released far too early. Once again from pressure of the invest and have been finishing the game in background.

As the entire thing was full of place holders.

Still they could have done with out the RNG BS from the get go and given us a basic idea of what they were proposing.

calling it right now its gonna be worse but in different ways. which is fine for me i have so much gear bricked in SO many different ways ill 100% find more workable stuff.

Honestly they could have just removed the locks and worked on other content instead. But hey what do i know itll be fall before we get another update. While i am hopeful that this overhaul fixes crafting, they could have just take an easy W now to buy more time cause we all know something will be broken lol

Yup.

Remove the locks, take the win and get players playing again.

It’s not hard… It’s just stubbornness.
