My post will hopefully meet all of the Bug Report criteria…as the bug that I have found doesn’t cause a game crash and so I do not have an Error Code or an actual bug report to share.
Anyway, here it is:
Hey all,
So, I seem to have just found a bug that seems to have something to do with the new 4000 series GPU’s “Frame Generation” feature. Essentially, when I play this game in fullscreen mode with Frame Generation enabled and everything on “High” (including RayTracing), I get around 100FPS in the Hub where the Mission Terminal is located. However, when I do this video settings glitch, it gives me a steady and consistent 180-200+ FPS.
All that you need to do is go into your video settings and ensure that you have “Frame Generation” set to “On”, “DLSS” also set to “On,” and “Super Resolution” set to “Automatic”. Then, scroll down in the video settings and switch “Screen Space Reflections” (also known as ‘SSR’) from “Off” to “High”. Then, close out of the settings menu and SSR will automatically disable itself. If you notice, your framerate will go up quite a lot!
Now obviously, SSR and raytracing both cannot be enabled at the same time. That is presumably why SSR will automatically disable itself - as it notices that you already have raytracing enabled. I had figured that although the settings still show that raytracing is enabled and SSR is disabled, perhaps it actually has the settings swapped, hence why I am getting the higher framerate. So, I then tried fully disabling all of the individual raytracing settings and then setting them all back to “High”. But oddly enough, my framerate stays sky high!
Why is this? Once this setting change occurs with Frame Generation set to “on,” does it keep raytracing disabled even if the settings say otherwise? I have noticed in the Hub that raytracing still seems to be working with the FPS boost… So what could be going on here?
Thank you in advance for your assistance with this. I look forward to hearing back =). Darktide is great fun!
Edit - This FPS boost carries over into mission levels if you happen to start any.
Edit 2.0 - Just tested with a game restart. This FPS boost bug does not carry over if you restart your game. You can, however, simply repeat the aforementioned steps to get the FPS boost back.
Edit 3.0 - Was playing again last night and had the frame boost upon launching the game. Perhaps this is a problem with my driver installation and I will try utilizing DDU and doing a full reinstallation. This could possibly be a driver ‘picnic’ issue with the newly acquired 4090 setup…
Update to Edit 3.0 - Nope. Same frame boost seems to apply today.
