AMD Guru's Please Help!

I just switched from nvidia to AMD graphics (9070 XT) and I’m getting good performance in Darktide, but the image quality isn’t quite the same.

Can anyone help me with good adrenaline settings for Darktide?

Using FSR upscaling and/or Frame Gen?
You sure it’s not FSR upscaling mucking things up?
You could always try DLSS Swapper and upgrade the FSR and XeSS DLLs to a more recent version. You can also try XeSS instead of FSR 3 (and see if it looks better until the FSR 4 situation is sorted out.

Enabled FSR 4 override in software?

P.S. Keep in mind AMD Anti-lag was causing psyker bubble issues, IDK if that’s resolved in the new RDNA4.

@gpkgpk

thank you for the quick reply! I’m not really sure of anything so I’m grateful for your help!

I tried every different setting, native AA, quality, performance FSR 3.1, Xess Quality, FG on, performance is unreal but I think there maybe some driver level settings that are in the way.

It’s just not quite as beautiful as it was on my 3080ti with DLSS. I’m also using reshade and an oled monitor.

I’m using Hyper Rx which should upgrade my FSR “IF” the game supports it, hopefully they add it to this game!

in space marine 2 I just got 260-320 fps and the FSR4 works in that game with Hyper RX

P.S. I had even done all the texture streaming changes in the settings.ini that were in the troubleshooting forums!

Yeah DLSS is great, but DLSS 4 is supposed to be a big step up (finally using AI tech), assuming it’s working properly.

Hmm yeah the Hyper RX, from what I read ( I’m on nV), it’s supposed to override the FSR 3, could it be the nV StreamLine DLLs interfering? Is it not forcing on? Try updating StreamLine DLLs?

Quite frankly AMD was being a d!ck in regard to Streamline, before people start blaming FS.

P.S. I’m curious what you’re using reshade for? Are you tweaking some HDR stuff? I was using Win 11 Auto-HDR at first, then nV TrueHDR but SpecialK was also great in the past.

thank you for the suggestion of the streamline dll’s, I’m going to check that next

for darktide, in reshade yes, i have an alienware oled, I use FakeHDR (in addition to auto HDR in win11), robust adaptive sharpening (in game sharpening to 0), colourfulness, Lilium’s TCR fix, not too many really

P.S. I wish FS would support HDR natively!

P.S.S. okay I’m on that github link for the streamline dll’s, is that an nvidia thing? what would I do with those files?

Grab the StreamLine DLLs from the bin/x64 and replace the existing ones in your game folder (wherever they exist, backup existing stuff for quick swaps).
I have a suspicion it won’t help but it’s worth a try.

Again, AMD is to blame here as StreamLine is open source, yeah nV but it’s just a thin middle layer for games to add support to upscaling and now frame-gen with support for other vendors too, so nV , AMD and Intel. CyberPunk also uses it FWIW and I think it’s in the same boat re: FSR 4.

Good luck, fingers crossed, keep us posted!

Re: ReShade Ah, I never really found the extra ReShade stuff all that useful for some games, but that’s a personal opinion that may be outdated. Do check out SpecialK too instead of W11 Auto-hdr, it can also work with ReShade internally and maybe even make it unnecessary.

The fact that there’s some HDR references in the Lua but not supported breaks my big fat ogryn heart, at launch there was a config entry too which gave me false hope.

Not much of a guru, but some potentially useful advice.
Wipe your darktide roaming folder in windows and have it re-detect your hardware on launch.

Spent almost 6 months troubleshooting why darktide looked significantly worse than it “should” after swapping from nvidia to amd (2080ti to 7900xtx) and darktide turned into a real headache for a while.

In my case it turned out the reason it looked like there was no AA and fsr/xess was just not doing much more than washing out colors and textures was that for some reason, the cfg file for darktide would just never update no matter what, and due to that conflict and my old hardware still being registered as active it would not let me set AA ingame amongst other things.

This was before using mods or any other tweaking too, but wiping the roaming folder actually fixed my issues.
Could set AA properly in native, the different frame “gen” techs were actually selectable properly when wanting to test RT, game has been rock solid since then and looks the way it should have to begin with.

I didn’t see it mentioned so i’ll also say if you haven’t run DDU yet to clean out old nvidia stuff you really should, just to avoid potential headhaces in other games as well.
(this bit applies to any major hardware manufacturer change in any direction to be fair).

Personally i keep all but image sharpening and enhanced synch off these days in adrenaline as the rest aren’t really much point in native with a 100hz ultrawide that i run it on, and unless you have a monitor that can actually manage frames in the 200-300 range it’s a massive waste of processing power (certainly with a 9070xt at anything over 1080p) and image quality.

With my own monitor limit i just set the fps max to 120 and let the card just chug along without getting hot instead of trying to push 50 frames that do about nothing even with everything maxed at 3440x (outside of RT obviously)

Upscaling in general is kind of a waste imo, though you could argue the RT in darktide does look good enough to bother at least dabbling in xess or fsr3+ at times.

Again, this may or may not apply to your situation, but possibly worth looking into.

As for a how-to, a link from the help forums here;

Thank you very much!

I noticed that the game config was different, I had set the streaming texture settings to what I had seen posted here and it wasn’t there. I reset them and made it read-only, not sure if that’s a good idea or not!

Honestly, I’d leave the streaming stuff to the defaults (unless legit reason for changes), backup your user_settings.config to another location too for safe keeping especially if you fiddled with a lot of settings and are wiping/resetting appdata .
Don’t forget the mod settings are in that user_settings.config file, so always backup before troubleshooting and deleting.

BTW, Here’s a tangentially related discussion in regards to Cyberpunk and Streamline+FSR 3, some interesting tidbits in there.

P.S. It’s probably worth chiming on any AMD forums for stuff like this, light a fire under their arses; this is more than just a DT issue and AMD is known to be slow to react.
