Regarding Toxicity in voice

As far as i am aware, games that have built in voice chat functions, do not record what was said, so reports regarding abusive behavior can not be verified by staff.
Even if you had a recording, they probably couldn‘t do anything.

I guess all you can do, is block and report them, and hope that these kind individuals spread their kindness to many others, hopefully using the text chat, so they can be reported many times and finally get banned.

It would be nice, if the mute/block/report options were made more accessible though (should take maybe 1 sec to use, perhaps a bit longer for a report).

I think it is pretty much always better for games to have stuff like voice chat and text chat (as well as many other things) turned on by default, because it is often only because the function is enabled by default, that you learn about its existence in the first place.
If you dislike the function, you can still go to the options and turn it off (most games i am aware of, have the option to „self isolate“, so does daktide).
However, i think completely disabling a useful comms function, just to avoid the few cunters who abuse it for abuse, is a bit too far.

In my experience, most players in darktide or other games, do not present their toxicity verbally (toxic behavior is more common, but not always intentional).
Out of those who do verbalize it, most do it via text chat.
In darktide, i have only had one case of toxicity via ingame voice so far (coincidentally, also a russian sounding individual with friend).
While these few losers are annoying, i find that more people should just accept that those losers exist, block+report them and move on with their lifes after encountering one.
Try not to let your fun be ruined by some random person who anonymously insults anonymous people on the internet.

Being able to handle yourself is only half of the games equation for what makes a good player. You also need to have situational awareness of your team while being willing and ready to support them. If you can’t do both, consider moving down a notch.

The smallest problem that this game has.

Considering we have no proof you didn’t say anything rude, I have no idea why someone would be rude to you.

Best option is to mute and move on, even if takes a few clicks to achieve.

Why is this being “flagged”…?

So, my question, after all that backstory: What can you do when you’re on the receiving end of such abuse? Block in voice and move on? Is that all? Is it worth recording all my games from now on in case I have to report this?

You can grow up.

Pot. Kettle.

Okay, and? The solution is still the same, if someone annoys you, you block or mute them. There’s always going to be someone who doesn’t like you, be grateful you have the tools to peacefully ignore their existence and move on.

Not sure why the blog post or the suggestions for something more to be done are necessary.

Really unfortunate because 40k’s most vocal wildly famous celebrity proponent is probably the least toxic cis white male in Hollywood

This kind of lazy attitude is a major reason racism and sexism persist in video game culture.

It’s actually not very hard to form systems that flag, shame, and reduce this kind of behavior.

In-game, like the OP’s situation, it’s very rewarding to let toxic players go down to dogs and then not rescue them later.

I just want Fatshark to implement an in-game report button. Apparently you can report them on the website, but digging around for that is not how any of us want to spend our recreational downtime. If we come across abusive people we’d like to be able to bring up a menu, report and move on so we can enjoy the rest of our precious downtime.

As much of a non-answer it is, I just keep voice off entirely and use the quick-chat actions (which need to be improved). Sorry you had to put up with that BS. I stand by my general dislike for people as a whole, people suck.

Yes, because those aren’t ever abused, right?

These devs couldn’t even get core gameplay correct and we’re expecting them to implement a report function that won’t be misused by the same people you seek to use it on.

I can’t wait to be perma-banned instead of kicked out of a public game because 3 idiots are attempting a penance they could easily be doing in a private lobby instead.

You can turn off typing chat? where? can you screenshot the options or explain more.

Hoo boy been thinking about posting something like this for a while but I know I’ll get burned. Anyway, I guess it’s time. welcome to the Patriarchy where women exist to get screwed and men exist to do violence. Patriarchy is such an awkward and poorly understood concept that most people just scoff if you even bring it up as if it isn’t real or the word itself is in some foreign language. Patriarchy, while genderless, is primarily concerned with the behavior of men, sorting men into a sort of hierarchy based their performance of masculinity with “real” men toward the top and lower value men further down. Since gender confirmation for men lies at the top of the pyramid masculinity becomes this sisyphean challenge wherein men must do real-man bs, commonly at the expense of women and their own physical/emotional health, to feel that they have value. At the same time attempting to tear down other men on the way up the hill thus all the “simp”, “beta”, “white-knight” accusations that you hear around the place. Truly the only way to win is not to play, to define masculinity by your own terms and not someone else’s.

I believe gaming communities are such challenging places because they tend to attract men who feel that they are inadequately masculine. Games are perfect for this because they can act as a stand-in for the kind of masculin behavior that patriarchy demands of men, which I guess is a good thing in a way. But then you have this clash happening, the community of men trying to level up their masculinity within the gaming microcosm and then the larger community of people, including women, who just enjoy gaming without any of that other baggage.

Not a lot one can do in the short term as an individual unfortunately except experience the abuse then block afterwards. Until we have a serious movement for men’s liberation this kind of thing will continue. Until then I do think that it’s incumbent upon game producers to recognize that patriarchy exists and to include protocols that attempt to grapple with it. Maybe no voice at all in games, maybe people who spew misogynistic screeds or engage in sexual harassment should just be permabanned by the company rather than putting the onus on the victim to block them? I don’t really know. Since this is Fatshark we’re talking about they probably won’t do anything at all for any reason.

First rule of tide games is “don’t get surrounded”. Even if you’re working with people who do generally want to be helpful, unexpected things happen. The player is responsible for keeping themselves alive. Always.

Also, you can’t rely on your teammates not being potatoes because you never know when you’re going to get potato teammates. Your head should be on a swivel at all times.

As long as there’s human review on reports before any significant action is taken, this is the answer. Reporting for abusive chat might result in automated silencing for the remainder of the run, but anything involving longer-lasting punishments must be reviewed before action is taken. Otherwise the system is too abusable be the very people it’s intended to be used against.

This isn’t just a tide game this is a Coop PVE, yes you should work on being an asset but the team needs to work together period.

It’s not just a coop pve, it’s a coop pve that’s played with randoms by the vast majority of the playerbase. What your teammates are going to do in any given run is a total crapshoot and expecting them to act in any given way by default is setting yourself up to die.

Be a teammate. Help eachother. Just don’t expect that the help is always going to be there.

Fair it is random in the pub. Don’t expect the help but we should be encouraging the community to be helping whenever possible.

Sorry, must’ve misread or misunderstood.
In the context of the thread I read it as if it referred to voice chat. Not text chat. My bad.
