I reached level 30 on my PermaDeath Zealot without ever dying and carried a HiSTG on the last game!
It was a self-imposed challenge that I found pretty fun since low-level Darktide is such a different game compared to level 30.
My self-imposed rules were:
- Any death results in deleting the character no matter what, even when backfilling into a losing game
- No disconnecting during a mission
- Weapon mastery for said character was 1-to-1 with character level, if character was level 10 I can craft a weapon with the limitations of level 10 mastery. In hindsight maybe I should’ve gone with 1-to-0.66 so I’d get max mastery at level 30 rather than level 20.
It was pretty fun playing low levels and working up to max level, I played on each difficulty besides Sedition and I’ve seen lots of players at varying skill levels. I’ve had to struggle and carry regular heresy missions a couple of times too, the most perilous game was one I had to clutch 3 separate times at level 13 since the other players kept dying and another kept losing connection. Most games became a lot more tense when dying meant actually losing that character! And elites are a lot scarier at low level too, Reapers in particular are absolutely terrifying at low level. I’ve lost 2 Zealots doing this self-imposed challenge and got to level 30 on my third.
I’ve also learned that it’s still possible to get a HiSTG mission on the regular mission, when’s the last time you’ve seen that? It’s effectively the same as an Auric HiSTG.
Regular mission board players definitely aren’t used to playing HiSTG, it was a very tense and dangerous mission for me, similar to that level 13 heresy game.
And here’s the entire HiSTG mission at level 29 for those who’d like to see
