Rant About Mods

And now VT’s playerbase is stuck with things like this being the case:

Practically begging for FS to re-sanction a previously sanctioned and then un-sanctioned mod from yesteryear now folks are working on it again.

If any of us were in a mod author’s shoes, could you really be bothered to keep on top of anything with FS’s glacial pace, either never really even knowing if your mod will ever even be sanctioned in the first place, or actually getting it sanctioned and then worrying if a future far off update can brick your mod?

The whole VT mod sanctioning system is a mess.

It’s quite sad really.

Without this mod, stim might not be detected at all

If you play without mods, you’ll hardly be able to tell that someone played better than you (unless you were downed on cooldown), and you definitely won’t know that someone collected more dibs than you. And if you did realize that and it hurt your pride, it seems you have a Scoreboard or another performance-tracking mod installed yourself. In that case, you’re not exactly innocent either

Can only see what’s in them if running a private server.

Without this mod, I can’t be lazy and get other things to do effort for me.

OFC, nobody is, this is their fallback strawman because deep down they know what they’re doing. “You hate all mods!111!

Seems pretty clear to me, the cheaty mods are CAUSING the audio issues 100% of the time for these users! That’s just stience. /s

Wait, it’s a pve game? Well why didn’t you say so, buffed dueling swords for all one person in the party, also the DS smites everyone around per crit swing. Also the DS deploys ammo crate when the Main Character (MC) is at half ammo.

If I had a nickel for everyone that said this I’d have 3 nickels, which is not a lot but it’s terrifying that it’s happened thrice.

You’re now part of a very exclusive club, the “it’s not a cheat if you don’t know about it” excuse club. Yes clearly it’s hurt pride because scoreboard….SMH.

But using the scoreboard or any other mod to track your own performance — isn’t that also a form of cheating? It looks like a case of a lesser cheater complaining about a greater one. And if you don’t use any mods at all, then… how do you work on improving your own performance?

I can’t even…

How do you figure that?

There is no tool within the game itself to measure one’s own performance. So how is a player supposed to work on improving their personal efficiency if they can’t even tell how much damage they’re dealing? I tried two different builds, and both seemed fairly effective, but it turned out that one of them dealt about 50% more damage than the other. Without the mod, I would never have known that and could have kept playing with an inherently inefficient build — which would undoubtedly have lowered the success rate of the missions for any team I was part of.

Oh do go on.

Also please elaborate on this some more.

WTAF!!

Do you even actually know what a cheat is?

No, no, no… Don’t want to hear it, I have had enough brain cells commit suicide reading some of the drivel in this thread.

Yeah, I’m a vile cheater — I admit it wholeheartedly. My main class is Arbites. God willing, I’ll finally manage to beat Havoc 21. After that, I’ll become a perfectly honest player: I’ll disable every single mod and play other classes on no higher than Heresy difficulty. Hopefully, I’ll last at least a week before I quit this game. I hope I’ll at least manage to make someone happy with my bad gameplay — teammates who’ll feel like skilled players by comparison.

Absolutely. How can I objectively assess my own performance without mods?

It’s pretty easy to guage how well you’ve done in a mission.

Amount of DMG etc means absolutely nothing in this game. Just use a psycher and you’ll just press X to spew infinite blue flame to constantly melt everything the entire mission and hey presto you have highest DMG output.

Instead, just guage it on how many times you got downed, how many times you got saved, how many medkits or medicaes you needed, how many people you saved, whether you ran out of ammo or not, how many times you got disabled by a special, etc etc.

Other team members have a huge impact on your performance so if you get an ogryn that is staggering entire crowds but you’re picking them all off for the kills then your kill count will look higher than if you didn’t have a crowd-staggering ogryn, even if you’re playing at a similar skill level. So what point, really, is the scoreboard in this regard? 4 players and a bipolar AI director makes results too abstract to be meaningful imo.

You can just “feel" when you did good. Less mods likely make you “feel" things more too. Sometimes less is more.

Sounds which are supposed to be played, but years later Fatshark struggles to put enough resources to address the issue…so modders found a workaround for those who care.

Full disclosure, I actually don’t use that mod.

I don’t care.

I’m not going to use voice chat with randoms.

Player outlines was in the base game and it should’ve been back by now

And healthbars also existed in pre-release gameplay
