Sorry, man, not getting down on your level today.
And I’m not trying to whitewash anything. My views on mods haven’t changed. The thread is there. If you think I’m misrepresenting anything, that’s not my problem.

You should be a politician ![]()
“i was found to have over-optimised my card deck with 5 aces by accident” lol.
And how can you say mods have no effect on others? Just a day ago someone in my mission was tagging grenades and other items through walls that none of us had line of sight to or where even close to. I’d never have seen them if they hadn’t been tagged by that person with the mod.
That is obviously a very tame example but it was the most recent that springs to mind and is enough to instantly prove that an affect is forced upon others.
As mentioned before, scale of effect ranges wildly due to the nature of complexity in the game and number of mods and their effects.
But let’s not claim they’re totally unaffecting on others as that is disingenuous.
I didn’t. I said:

Anyway, hope you reported that guy if he soured your game. If he used that mod to see grenades through walls with his friends, there’s no problem.
I’m not minimizing modding by using the term “over-optimize.” That’s just my understanding of one of the complaints about mods, which is that they enable players to trivialize the game by allowing them to perform beyond their capabilities in such a way that the experience of playing a match is negatively affected for others.
Sorry, man, not getting up to your level today.
FIFY, you really should run for office, maybe make some NFT with your profile pic or something and sell beans.
But let’s not claim they’re totally unaffecting on others as that is disingenuous.
No no no, see in this case you were aware of their cheats, but also it’s entirely subjective, is 6 aces a thing? Bro, YOU shouldn’t let cheats bother you, stop being so toxic bro, bro.
Also when you’re unaware of them using cheats it’s totally not a cheat.
What’s that? The prevailing winds and public opinion are shifting? Yeah cheats bad! I was always against cheats from day 1 (Lua is 1 based index).
Also when you’re unaware of them using cheats it’s totally not a cheat.
This has never been my argument. I’m pretty sure you know that, but it doesn’t matter. My point you’re distorting here is that there are people better and faster and smarter than me, and if I can’t tell they’re using a mod to be/do that stuff then it’s really no different for me if they are or aren’t using mods.
I don’t mind calling them cheats and I don’t mind if other people use them- I honestly can’t say they have ever ruined one of my quick play games (I also am a “cryo pod” enjoyer, as the best users of it have perfect comedic timing).
All consistent here!

This has never been my argument.
Oh? It must have been the other B4dw1n or something , similar spelling; my mistake. Funny how some threads vanished huh…
Anyways, someone similar said here that if you’re unaware your being cheated it doesn’t really count, a zen riddle like a tree falling in the forest or something.
Anyway, hope you reported that guy if he soured your game. If he used that mod to see grenades through walls with his friends, there’s no problem.
I’d be reporting more than playing if I did that
But jokes aside it kinda sounds like you don’t mind mods as long as they’re used with consenting friends/players, which is what my whole suggestion for the preference toggle is about.
I don’t want to take modding away from anyone, but ideally I would like a way to at least minimise my exposure to modder players if I choose to.
“prioritise match-making with modded players”, “prioritise match-making with non-modded players” and “I don’t care” would be ample options to help please everyone.
“prioritise match-making with modded players”, “prioritise match-making with non-modded players”
so 1 is play with PC players only
2 is play with console players only XD
I play on pc and use zero mods ![]()
Well, nothing good or bad about it, anyone can have their perversions in peace ![]()
I’d be reporting more than playing if I did that
Damn that sucks. Not my experience at all, but sorry to hear that.
Viewing it from a purely player-focused perspective, I’m for a toggle like you’ve suggested. But I expect users who mod to rise in percentage (might be brain farting but last I recall from FS on this was like 2 years ago and they said roughly 1/3 of PC players mod), and I think splitting the player base between “anyone who uses any mod of any kind” and “vanilla” players would likely be a net negative for the game long-term.
The toggle options as I’ve suggested them wouldn’t reduce number of possible players, but rather add a priority preference to match making.
So if you prefer to play with non modded gamers but there are only modded gamers online then you’d still play with them.
It would be preference, not a block.
It’s the only solution I can think of that would really work without need for splitting (like modded realm).
They’ve already spilt players with mortis and havoc anyway though!
Oh that’s a good distinction, thanks for emphasizing it. Yea, I’d like that!
And that totally fine.
I never seen a threat that was labeled
“All players must use Mods or they suck and cheat others out of winning the round!”
“Prioritization” to matchmaking sounds good if it bothers folks that much. Definitely NOT for a modded and unmodded mode though. The problem with splitting over mods is that nobody can be sure what folks are modding and what for.
Example- I use several mods for UI to customise it so I can see things most players can see just looking at the screen in vanilla. I am only able to use my Scrier’s psyker builds due to a mod- without the big timer and icons in the centre of my screen, I have no point of reference as to the 10 seconds or when ult is charged etc without mods, the tiny boxes at the bottom in vanilla might as well be invisible to me, same as most numerical stats etc. With mods, I can put myself in the same playing field as others. There’s a few folks who use mods in this fashion, and we would be indistinguishable from any modders using whatever cheat mods predicts spawns etc. just because they’d be modded.
UI customisation mods and the likes of Danger zone and Weapon switch fix, should have no bother whatsoever- they only impact your play. Might be unpopular to say, but I honestly think FS should look through the mods and just add the likes of these to the base game for all. But I wouldn’t want it slowing development any more.
side note- dunno if you folk ever had the macromachine gun treatments? At least I think it’s macro driven… I’ve been irritated to all hell with people with mecha-tagging every direction and numbing all audio with a constant “chunk” every time they see any specials, like a stacking, deafening machine gun. Dunno if that’s a mod but it needs to sod off! xD There’s many things that can be a pain in the arse.
…UI customisation mods and the likes of Danger zone…
Seeing the AoE of a barrel, or daemon host seem fine to me. Seeing a pox burster’s exact location through a wall has me on the fence. Sound alone can get you direction, but the circle on the ground gives you the direction and distance. It’s pretty clear to me from some of the content creators on youtube that it’s being used to gain an advantage. Everyone can hear the PB behind the spawn door, but people with Danger Zone know the exact time the PB starts moving.
Same with the health bars. Fog, darkness? Just aim a bit below the middle of the red line and fire. Sure, it’s not as bad as highlighting them, but it may as well be.
In general though, UI mods, stat tracking mods seem fine to me.
And yeah the tag everything every 20ms is super annoying.

Someone should mod these to make Pings Less Annoying!
Ok I did miss some of that reply chain then, thank you for clarifying. To be clear I don’t approve of their way of responding either, though I do think a lot of UI work would have to be done to make something like health bars feel like an integrated part of the world. Either way from a gameplay perspective I am glad they’re not part of the base game.
If anything I’d prefer the existing system that shows some damage done to enemies on their model was improved and expanded. That seems like a much more fun and nuanced way to deliver that information than a health bar, even a lore friendly health bar.
